Default CCW Renewal Done Right

At least California does some things right.

I just got my renewal and the time from application to picking up the new license was 2 days.

There is a nice web site for applying for a renewal.

You answer a bunch of on-line questions, then upload a scan of your ID, a PDF of your utility bill (proof of residence), and the certificate from your renewal refresher and qualification class.

You have to pick up the license in person as Cali requires a thumb print on the license.

They don't let you mail in your thumb -- you have to bring it with you.

Do any other states have a completely on-line renewal system?

I grew up in Arizona, and people there are much less allergic to firearms than here.

I have a similar problem with our neighbor state to the North -- Oregon.

While shall issue for residents, it can be difficult to get a non-resident license in Oregon. Non resident licenses are issued in some jurisdictions, but only to residents of states adjacent to Oregon.

And Oregon also doesn't honor any other state's licenses.

Default it's easy to renew CWP in Florida

I renewed my Florida concealed permit today. The licenses are issued by the Fl Dept of Agriculture and Consumer Services. They mailed me the renewal forms, you can renew by mail (which takes up to 8 weeks and you have to include a color passport type picture) or you can take your forms and a check for $50 to the local Dept of Agriculture office and walk out with your new license (and they even take your picture at no extra charge). I was out in about 10 minutes. The Florida licenses are now $50 for 7 years, and a notarized statement is no longer required.

I think it depends on which county in Ca you live in and what the Sheriff's CCW policy and requirements are...

Hearing these things really lets one know just how different states are from one another. I actually really feel bad for ya'll CA residents, but at least you can get a CCW permit.

Here in PA, the original county I lived in required you to fill out an application which was pretty much a 4473, mail it and a check for $35 to the county sheriff's office, wait 3 weeks then go pick it up in person.

I since moved to the next county up and when renewal came, all I had to do there was go to that local sheriff's office in person, fill out the same form, give them a check for $35, and left with my new permit 10mins later.

No safety class training, no refresher course, no finger/thumb prints, no problems.

I am very grateful to be in a gun friendly "shall issue" state. Considering moving in the future and it would only be to another state that is equal or better than PA.

$35? In Venango County, it's $20 for 5 years. My wife just renewed hers Tuesday. I renewed in January. I had to wait about 30 minutes because there were other people in front of me.

I renewed my Alabama permit for 5 years for $37.50. Took less than 5 minutes.

No online but it's a 5 min deal. Show up, fill out the paperwork, take a photo, pay and go home with your permit.

I'm fine with skipping online and keeping my guns, mags, and no ammo background check.
