Default Cross Dominant

I was just wondering how many here are cross dominant (like me) and how many are same side dominant. I know most of you know what cross dominant means, but, for those that don't know, it means that you sight with the eye opposite of your shooting hand.
In my case, I shoot right handed, but sight with my left eye.

A couple of suggestions for dealing with this:

Wink your dominant eye as your sights come on target.

Shoot with your dominant eye closed or put a patch on your shooting glasses to block the dominant eye.

Thanks for the tips. Actually I've gotten used to shooting cross dominant. I use a modified isosceles stance, and I shoot with both eyes open, in which I automatically sight the pistol on the right (left eye). Long guns are a different story! I use my non-dominant eye for them, but, I don't shoot long guns very often. I'm not a marksman, but, I'm adequate enough

My dad had the cross dominant issue because he was born with a vision impaired right eye. Funny thing is that I had a crossed right eye as an infant and child. That eye never corrected to the same degree of vision of my left eye, mimicing dad's condition. When it came to training me to shoot, he made sure I used my right eye, since I was right handed.

I'm left handed and right eye dominate. Shot left handed for over 25 years.
More than 5 years ago I switched to shooting right handed and right eye dominate.

Cross-dominant, right-hand/left-eye dominant.

It hasn't really affected me that much, other than I usually turn my head so my sights line up with my left eye. It's not a problem when shooting Isoceles-ish, but a Weaver stance can be a little awkward.

I'm not a long-gun shooter, but when I eventually get around to getting a long-gun I'm probably going to learn how to shoot it as a lefty.

I'm right handed, and I shoot with my left eye closed.

I recently tried left and left but discovered my left arm isn't long enough to eliminate blurred sights (right eye is no problem). As I'm practicing with a J-frame in each hand I sight only with my right eye.

The responses on this poll have gone a long way to help me achieve my goal of becoming a two-fisted shooter. Thanks to the OP and follow-up posters.

Kinda weird, I was same side dominant until I started having motor nerve problems with my right hand. I started training to shoot left handed, then I just naturally started using my left eye to shoot left handed.
After lotsa therapy, I can now shoot right handed with a two handed hold as well as left handed.
I find myself switching eyes to coincide with whatever hand I'm shooting with.
It works as long as I don't think about it.

I'm right handed and left eye dominant, took me a little while to learn to shoot handguns with both eyes open and use my dominant eye. Not much of a rifle shooter so i have no clue how that is going to work for me. Never had a problem with using a shotgun right handed when hunting though.

I'm right-handed, and I'm so right eye dominant it isn't even funny. Left eye is the "lazy eye" - even with corrective lenses I'm no better than 20/50 in it. There is no way on earth I could use a rifle if the left eye had to be the one on the scope.

Now, the really weird thing, is that the last time I shot the King County qualification course for private security company armed patrol (1984-1985 if I remember correctly), my off-hand (left) barricade score was better than my strong hand. I'm guessing I took more time and concentrated harder, but I guarantee you I was using the right eye on the sights.

I'm right handed and 20/200 in my right eye, so yes, I shoot right handed and sight with my left eye. I shoot long guns left handed, always have.

Right eye dominant, shoot both handed, (required in training to qualify with right and left hands, issue and backup weapon). I shoot with both eyes open.

Default I'm all messed up....

I do everything cattywhompus or bass-ackwards every way I can. All I can say is that I manage to shoot ok. With rifles I'm forced to use my right (non dominant) eye. With pistols my left eye is better and I use it more. At some things I'm right handed, others left handed'. No wonder I'm confused.

Right-handed/right-dominant. When I shoot lefty, I have to remember to close my right eye, otherwise I'm off a foot either way, depending on stance.

You're not a drummer, are you? Being a drummer, I do some things left handed, even though I'm right handed. Drummers are more apt to be ambidextrous than most.

Am I the only one who shoots a pistol with both eyes open ??

I must be the odd one out but shoot with both eyes open and always have .. closing one eye you cut down on the peripheral vision on that side of the face in a SD situation I want all the side vision I can have in case there is a 2nd perp on that side .. !!

Even with both eyes open, you must focus on one of the guns in front of you. I sight the one on the right (left eye dominant)

I was right handed and right eye dominate. Lost the sight in my right eye . That left me with a working left eye only , when you only got one eye guess which one is dominant ...the one that works.
Now I'm right handed and left eye sighted...but I can still find a way to shoot.

The poll numbers surprised me ! There seem to be a lot more of cross dominant shooters out there than I imagined !

Right handed left eye dominant because of vision problems.
