I'd hire an armed guard, if at any minute, I were really concerned that I would be the victim of an armed attack at my place of residence. Otherwise with kids in the near future for you, get a quick access safe.

The entire point of this thread was that we are trying to make sure that we are safe about firearms with kids in the future.

And you're obviously going to accomplish that. Personal safety practices are going to vary based on the specific situation. Sometimes the best overall strategy won't involve firearms. Throwing a handful of pocket change in someone's face buys you time to escape or get to a weapon, for instance.

You said you pocket carry? Just put the gun in one of these when by the pool and put it back in your pocket.

I have been reading these various posts and here is my humble 2 cents. regarding the pool situation I don't have answer for that.

Now for the bathroom situation a quick access vault with a handgun and flashlight inside of the bathroom.

Yes a thousand times yes and here is why I say yes let's say its 1 or 2 am and your in the bathroom doing your business.

And a bad guy or several bad guys break into your home its much faster to pull up your pants or underwear open the vault and grab the gun and flashlight that is in their.

Then it is to leave the bathroom and retrieve the gun and flashlight that is in the bedroom or whatever room it is stored in.

Because in the time it takes you to pull up your pants or underwear leave the bathroom and retrieve the gun and flashlight that's in the other room.

the bad guy or bad guys could at the least beat you and your love one's to death or worst case scenario shoot you and your loved one's to death.

Are we pummeling a deceased equine here?

Not angry , but I will disagree. I do not live in the safe land of milk and honey in kalifornia. I live in a rural setting that, I, my Wife, or the Rotties are our ONLY back-up. I do not live in a fenced in property, and would not be able to do it. I have had people come from different directions ( no road ) and get to my house, pool, etc. If I called 911 today ( bright/shiny/no snow ), a man with a gun call, could take 45 min depending on how many Deputies/ State Troopers are on. I am not complaining, nor a I worried about it, because I do have the Rotties, a gun or 2 at the pool, in the bathroom. We have no children, I do not go to a school, do not go to court, etc. We enjoy ourselves and we happen to have 1 or 2 or more SS/titanium snubs, SW 64 snub, plastic/polymer. I do have martial arts training, and I agree, awareness ( your brain ) is your greatest weapon. Paranoid? No, just prepared. I would really hate myself, if something happened that I could have had control over, but ws too lazy to think, train or prepare for it. Zip Lock bag and a derringer, rolled up magazine, sharp stick, all can serve a purpose. The OP may be having fun, but I have personally observed and been involved in situations, in areas that were "extremely safe". I do not wear a raid vest to shower/swim ( too heavy ), but depending on where I may be that day I may wear my III-A vest. I do not think about where to bury "another gun " (LOL) all day long, a couple snubbies that sit in the safe could be put to better use discretely. If I never need it so much the better, but Bear, Wolves, Cougar, Coyotes frequent our backyard, I can not out run them, so I prepare in advance. { Paranoia They Destroy Ya } The Kinks. Be Safe,

I don't ever carry a gun, I only have one loaded gun in the house and it is in the closet and has an empty chamber, and I never felt I needed any more protection than that. But if some guy said he was going to kill me because I was a witness and testifying against him or maybe some psycho just wants to come after me or my family then your Dang Right, I would have a gun ALL the time! I would probably have my Ruger LCP in my swimsuit pocket and a Smith revolver in the shower with me on the soap shelf. If the guns starts getting rusty I'll buy a more.

Doesn't close it at all for me, and probably for more than half of the forum members. Everybody in my house is fully capable of safely operating a firearm . . .

Wishful thinking, like many who are not gun-toters.

Before anyone starts discounting guns in zip lock bags in the shower as paranoia, you have to ask yourself if you have ever stayed in a motel that, even if it was a national chain, might not have been in the best part of town. My S&W 642-2 has visited many a shower when traveling.

Mine sits on the counter by the sink while I shower. Doors locked and occasionally hide it under a shirt if someone breaks into the house my dogs will let me know

MY 2 cents. You have to do what ever make you feels safe!
And that may be more then I or someone else would do,but thats is OK. SO to get back on point by the pool w/o kids around a water proof zip lock under a towel, Shower time gun under a towel! BUT when kids arrive I would get the Bio Safes placed in the Bathroom and Pool area at a access point that is good for you and the wife! I am not sure if the Bio safes can read 2 sets of prints but worth checking out!
And as the old saying goes Better to be safe then sorry

Buy a stainless pistol and take it swimming. I learned in the Army that the best place to clean grit out of a weapon is in the shower.

I think that I'm going to put a gun safe in the bathroom door, and hack together some sort of quick-access safe/stereo combo to put out by the pool. Then we can have tunes out there as well!

Also going to pick up a Spyderco Salt to keep in my swimsuit pocket to be totally covered.

Well they do make waterproof 6 inch high gun safes.
Now with a Glock in the safe you would be fine as a little water will not harm the glock.

Call a contractor and have one installed on your preferred shower wall and another on the inside lip of your pool.

Get the fingerprint kind not the key lock kind and you are good to go.....well on second thought, in the pool...where to put it...shallow end, or deep end or on the side....but what if you are in the deep end and it's at the shallow end or vise versa???
yes...anyway you go I see where it could be a problem.......

Let me give it some additional thought about the pool...I got the shower covered.......................
