Default Concealed Carry Renew

I suppose everyone is aware of this, but for those that aren't aware, this is a head's up for saving money. When the DOJ of Wisconsin sends you your renew....be smart and wait till it almost expires...they will send a renew 4 months before it expires, and if you renew then, you will lose those 4 months paid, and will have a new renewal date....wait or learn like me that it renews when you submit and you will lose the remaining time on your exiting right to carry...seems like a ripoff to me.

In Virginia the renewal permit starts on the expiration date of the old permit. They encourage you to renew between 90 and 45 days before the permit expires but you don't loose anything because the dates do not overlap.

Is there a Wisconsin gun owners organization that can lobby for a similar change there?

Texas renews on your birthday, so it doesn't matter here.

That does sound like a bit of a ripoff, but so does the Texas initial permit where it is good for five years only if you get it right on your birthday (not really possible since there's no way to know how long approval will take). It expires on your birthday closest to five years from issue (but not over) - so you could lose as much as eleven months out of your first five years. That's only an issue for the first time, though. Renewals get the full five years.

I will say the online renewal process put into place by the WI DOJ worked pretty well for us. Both my wife and I renewed online (cost 22.00 for five years); we both received our renewed licences in the mail five days from submission.

I would prefer that the expiration of the new license was based on the original license expiration date, but won't lose any sleep over it.
