Carry when at home in your presumed "safe space"?
I am curious. We constantly see news about home invasions and robberies where the house is not empty. Yet your hear about so many people who immediately remove their sidearm when they are in their home. It gets locked in the safe until they leave their home again. In the news about home invasions you endlessly read comments similar to this: "He/She then ran to get their gun in an attempt to protect themselves".
So, I am curious how many people remain armed while in the home.
This does not include:
-I have one in each room
-It is beside me on the end table
-It is locked in a quick opening safe
-etc.
It means from the moment you get up (yep, mine comes into the bathroom w/ me) to the moment you lay down to sleep, it is on your person. Now obviously it is not on your waist while in the water but it is in B-room w/ you. Use your common sense with other possible exemptions such as - well, use your imagination.
So the poll question regarding "on your person 100% of the time at home when physically possible" refers to the above paragraph.

If I am wearing pants with a belt, which is nearly all the time, there is a Glock 22 or 23 on the belt along with one spare mag. A blousy pullover shirt or sweater covers it nicely.

I'm trying to start to carry at home. I'm constantly extolling how, if you own a 442 or other J-frame Airweight, you really have no excuse to ever not carry... to that end I've been making a conscious effort to keep it on around the house. I think once I get a OWB holster for it, instead of my usual IWB, it will be less irritating to wear while plopped down on the LazyZ boy. We've had more invasions make the news in the last few months. I seriously doubt it would happen, but then most victims probably feel that way until they get hit.

There are no proverbial "safe spaces" any more.

And one thing I started doing when I do not have a pair of pants on (no belt loops), I will wear my belt and firearms over top of the sweats or shorts like you might see a gun belt worn on old westerns. No belt loops, no problem!

A lot depends on where you live. Anything can happen anywhere of course but in some areas the chance of home invasions are very low.
Typically hood rats stick to areas they know.
I live in an area where serious crime is almost none existent. Last month there was a report of public drunkenness, underage male at a bar, a car was keyed, and a leather jacket and purse were stolen from a business.
The area is not rural but there are no section 8, no rentals. Typical house is in the $600k +. Most people work on Wall Street, law firms, run their own business, doctors...etc... I live 10min from a few famous movie directors/movie people we have some pro sports players. In July we had our first murder in 30 years. Happened a block from me. It was over a woman. One boyfriend jealous of the ex. It's unfortunate but anywhere you have people it can happen.
I don't carry at home for 2 reasons. First is because the odds are low of something happening. And second, because I want to be comfortable at home. I typically walk around in sweat pants and a T-shirt. No jeans, no belts. Sitting or laying on the couch isn't the most comfortable thing with a gun. Having said that I realize that there is no such thing as 100% safe so I do keep a gun near by

I typically have a J-frame or Kel-Tec in my pocket once I get home. it doesn't take much to throw it in there, and at least there's something always with me.
There's one under the pillow when I sleep (not the one my head is on!)

I don't have a presumed safe space. I have a couple places where I'm more familiar with the exits and fields of fire, but that's about it . . .

One of the best facets of owning a Bodyguard .380 is that I can comfortably carry almost all of the time. I'm aware of the limitations but accept the them.
Yes, I home carry.

First Things First
I won't fault anyone for carrying within his own home. However, there are things you may do to make it far more difficult for an invader to kick in your door. Whether you have a $37.00 lock or a $300.00 lock, it's the door jamb that's going to fail.
Remove the 1" brass #8 screws holding the striker in place and replace them with 2-2 1/2' #8 brass screws that reach into the house framing around your doors. You should also remove one screw from each of the hinges and replace it with a long screw.
To do this, you'll need to drill an appropriate pilot hole, then soap the screws for easing their entry.
You'll need the gun when everything else has failed.

Always a .380 pocket gun. If expecting tradesmen/repair folks, then the Glock 19. I live in a "low crime" area as well. Many years ago, a plumber returned to a rural home near me and killed a couple after torturing the husband and raping the wife.

I'm surprised, as well. I thought the "always carry" number would be lower. Then again, more of that type are inclined to click on a thread with this title.

I am PLEASANTLY surprised as well. I bet you are right though. I probably skewed the results by phrasing it the way I did.

Sixteen years as an instructor I have had calls from former students
with stories to tell. Almost always starts with something like: " I never
thought anything like this would happen to me." It does happen at
places you never thought about, and at the worst possible time. If it
isn't on me there is a hideaway close by.

No, I don't carry inside my home. However, I have 5 convenient places for fast retrieval. Three are K frame 38s, one 686 and one 649-3. All are loaded with the same ammo and except for the one J frame, all are similar in size. My wife and I routinely go to all five places to stay familiar with what is there (I don't change their locations). I am also planning for a 6th location in my garage when I settle on the best place.

Always armed when I leave my house, when at home I'm always aware of the location of my nearest loaded firearm, bat or hockey stick. I also have four dogs that serve as great early warning detection units. There is a lot of personal satisfaction in the bat and hockey stick defense systems.

First I do not agree with your premise. There is no such thing as a "presumed safe space" in Today's world
Typically, I do not carry on my person in the House or Office. I like to kick off the shoes and pants so that I can slip into shorts and a T-shirt whenever possible
The alarm is in perimeter mode if I am inside either location.
However, there is a firearm (usually handgun) 3 steps from any point in either location. There is a 12 gauge next to my desk, bed, easy chair and in my study. There are also lever guns next to the bed and chair in the study.
If I am answering the door or going outside I always carry.

Carry when at home in your presumed "safe space"?
Almost 100% of the time. My new neighbor noticed my OC when I got home from the range and wants to learn about guns some time when his wife is away. I guess she's not okay with the idea.
I'm glad I don't have to hide things from my wife. Many years ago as we were starting to get serious I told her that from time to time I would probably go out to a "gentleman's establishment" with work friends. She thought about it and said she'd be OK with that as long as that was the absolute extent of such goings-on. I agreed we both lived up to our word. But it's been years since I engaged in such foolishness.

In the PDR of MA, the law more or less says on the bod or in the safe. While I disagree with making it a law, telling everyone else what they have to do, I fully agree with the law itself. Fortunate. While everything else is locked up, I always have at least one gun under my personal control, usually on my belt or in my pocket.
Better sorry than safe, or whatever.

When I get up in the morning and get dressed, a Ruger LCP goes in my pocket. Stays there until I go to bed. My experience as a cop, and as living in a rural area the last 20 years is that no home is safe from the actions of those who would do mischief and cause harm.

I live in a more-or-less urban apartment, and not in the safest of neighborhoods. Because I live in an apartment there is a limit to what I can do in terms of security layers, but I do what I can. So, based on your definition, I carry at home. I don't have an issue with comfort. While I don't sleep with my gun strapped to my side I have taken naps without issue.

At the very least there is a NAA 22 mag on me at all times. My edc is normally a glock 23, my yard or walking gun a governor.

Said this before. I'm a locksmith. I secure homes and businesses for a living. My home is my sanctuary. My safe place. For me and my family.
I've taken the time to harden the perimeter of our home. You're not getting in unless you're invited or you drive your car through the front door.
Home should be the one and only place you can let your guard down a bit and rest your mind. And that's exactly what I have accomplished. I know the methods used to gain entry into someone's house. If someone tries to get into my house I will have plenty of time to get the wife to safety and grab a gun.
I don't worry about it. My mind is at ease.

In spite of my wife snickering and asking "Why are you wearing that thing, are you expecting trouble?", I wear it 100% of the time, or its within arms reach.

The notion of the "safe place" is a myth. I live in what is regarded as one of the top two safest cities in Michigan. I went on a ride along with the local PD a few months back and was surprised when the officer said we were going to swing through a certain neighborhood because they had a home invasion there two weeks ago. I have a friend that lives there and they had no idea!
I don't kid myself. My wife may think I'm overly cautious, but that's her problem. I carry at home all the time!

I am armed at home even though home invasions here are almost always drug related, and I have no involvement in that "lifestyle". There have been cases of mistaken identity or of getting the wrong address by the drug thugs. A former coworker experienced a home invasion by drug dealers demanding their money or their drugs back. They had the right address on the wrong street. It can happen elsewhere.
I do live in a city described by one study as the "most dangerous city in Texas." I do not feel unsafe, though.

Ditto.
The only time I'm not carrying is when I am prohibited (at work, at the post office, at a school, etc.) - and that isn't often - other than being at work.
It is becoming as much of a habit as putting on my pants....

I read our weekly (suburban) crime reports, and we have less crime than Mayberry. :-)

Most of the time I do. I do carry a 37 airweight but like previous posters have said, home means sweats and a t shirt or no shirt. I always have one close. I live so far out in the boonies that an evil doer must realize that it would take a long time to get an ambulance out here. Everyone on the main dirt road that leads up to my lane have guns and shoot a lot. Since the kids are all gone I keep several weapons loaded within reach. I carry around the house if I plan on leaving or just out and about in the woods or yard, which is really the same thing. With that little 37, it's pretty easy to forget about it being there. Not completely though.
Peace,
Gordon

I don't carry in the house but I'm never more than a few steps from a weapon no matter what room I'm in. (Well, maybe the bathroom is an exception.) If I'm at my desk, I have several within arms reach. I live out in the sticks and have a pack of dogs that will notify me of anything they hear out of the ordinary. The driveway is about 1/4 mile long so no one should be back this far by accident. There's also a sensor at the gate that rings a chime at the house as well as motion senor lights with horns around various locations at night.
I just recently started carrying while out working around the property on foot during the day because of feral hogs passing through. A recent scare almost made me poop my shorts. But I've always packed heat and taken a dog with me when going out back or to the barn after dark. There's things out there that will eat you if given the chance.
I dispatched a rattlesnake two weeks ago not more than 15' from the door. And that was at night! I didn't even see or hear it until the dog started going crazy and jumping all over the place. She has a lot better eyes, ears and nose than I do. The point is that an intruder would be taking their life into their own hands if they jumped a fence and tried to make it through the fields or brush out back to get to the house after dark. And the dogs sure wouldn't put up with someone on foot strolling around during the day.
I haven't felt the need to carry while on the tractors although there's been a few times I wish I had a 410 or 20ga. loaded with bird shot for snakes and rats.

I pocket carry a J-frame every day and have for years. I take it out of my pocket and place it within reach when I come indoors, where I spend most of my time in retirement and rather infirm old age. If I can scrape up the money I may acquire a Ruger LCP as a hip-pocket backup and to keep on my person when I'm inside. If I'm one step out the door I'm carrying the J-frame.
But I live in a steel-framed apartment building. My only door to the outside is steel; and more importantly, so is the door jamb, which is supported by the steel framing. Nobody is going to kick that door in before I'm ready with an armed response.
The door has a small window that allows me to see who is there. My windows are narrow vertical jobs and would be slow to get through--slow enough that I would have plenty of time to reach my gun.
If anyone I don't know is at my door, I have the gun in my hand before I consider opening it.
I feel sufficiently protected, and have no desire to live at Condition Orange 24/7. Nor do I see myself strapping up before going to the bathroom in the tiny hours. If I'm wrong, well, hey, I've had a mighty damn interesting life and a pretty long one.

If I'm out the door, I carry. Inside, I have one near. I also don't live in downtown Chicago. If there is a knock on the door, a gun is in my pocket or my hand. The comments about adequate locks/barriers are true.
Most of my adult life was spent in condition yellow as a LEO. Now that I'm retired, I use the statistics from what I saw. Home invasions (in my area) are much less likely than being hit by a drunk driver.
It is important to me to have a place to decompress. I'm quite comfortable having a gun within a few steps. YMMV.

Bozz10mm I read about a lady asking a Texas Ranger about the same
thing: Why are you wearing that, are you expecting trouble? He replied:
No Mam. If I expected trouble I would have brought my rifle too.

Tinhack perhaps you should consider one in the bathroom too.
Remember what happened to the cowboy, taking the restroom break,
in UNFORGIVEN?
