LC9 most of the time. In the colder months Glock 20C or M&P 357. The right holster makes all the difference.

Alien cloak tuck 3.0, Smith 8282, streamlight, benchmade. I wrap several times around the end of my flashlight with electrical tape so I can hold it between my teeth when both hands are busy.

How much lighter can the PPK/S be over the 3913?

I like the DAO variants for carry and besides the 3914 also have a 6946, 4046, 4586:

M&P 40 Compact: Accurate, reliable, heavyweight bullet, double-digit capacity, fits in front pocket. 'Nuff said.

Went out to the mall wearing elastic waist sweatpants with my 6906 in my black leather fanny pack. Even my 642 in a pocket holster pulls those sweatpants down. And no, no one thought I was carrying a gun in the fanny pack, even pulled my wallet out of the middle compartment to pay for purchases.

I've tried a few options over the years and settled on these:

Sometimes I'll carry a SP-101 but mostly either the LCP or the shield in 45...

My main carry gun is a Colt Commander (04691) with a good belt and holster. Now in the summer if I am just running to town or taking the trash out I carry a Glock 43.

My main carry piece is a S&W 4553TSW no rail.
While out wandering in the woods I carry my S&W 325NG.
On the Harley it is my S&W M&P 340.
For a deep conceal situation it's the Seecamp 380.

My 3914DAO serves me well when thin and light is desired. The 4040PD is a good choice when a step up in power seems appropriate. I've just acquired a 457 to give me the option of a big fat bullet.

Funny you mentioned that...
4040PD is what I carry, IWB, OWB or fanny pack...

Anyway, I carry this Sig P938 in a Winthrop

Either a 3" model 37 or a 642. Light weight and 5 rounds of good .38 spl hollow points are a winning combination. I'm not fighting a war. Sometimes, oh horrors, I carry the 37 on my hip and the snubbie on my ankle.

Massad Ayoob's interview with a Chicago PD Veteran Of 14 Gunfights. Pay particular attention to Mr. Stasch' detailed description of his first shooting encounter. What happened was an eye opener.

These days it's a 640-1 with Speer .38 special SB 135 grain mostly carried in a Mika in the front pocket of cargo shorts or if I'm wearing jeans in a Simply Rugged pancake. My backup is a 637-2 with the same ammo.

That was very interesting to listen to, especially where the bad guy gets shot about 15 times with large caliber bullets and keeps coming!

My 3953 since 1991 (not counting a short period of time I carried my G30) and my 642 since 1996.

Usually the 3953, but when pocket carry is needed, the 642.

At times, both.

Started out many years ago with a model 37 smith, somehow got sidetracked with bottom feeders that never really had my full trust looking back. Now my daily setup is a 340PD in the pocket. Never felt this easy or effectively armed..357 short barrel Gold Dots, and a speed strip. Ive heard this setup described as the definition of an optimist..LOL

About a month and a half ago, I bought a KSD grip for my CS9D.
Since then it has become my go to EDC.

I've carried a Glock 19 for years (and before that a Glock 23) as I carry them regularly enough the mid-size Glock doesn't seem large to me and I shoot them pretty well. In the summer months I find myself carrying a 442 Airweight.

I prefer DAO for carry, after a long time this trio emerged as my regulars:

Default Going heavy for concealed carry ...

Wanting more firepower than my lightweight carry of 360PD and 3914 DAO I've added a six shot 9mm 547 to be primary to my backup 915 with 17+1 capacity for a total of two dozen Hornady Critical Defense 9mm rounds.

Default My EDC Setup

Here's my EDC setup. I carry 16/7/365. The other 8 hours is when I'm sleeping, but then I have my Colt .45 M1911 on the nightstand.

Clockwise, starting at 12:00:
  • SnapSafe with cable to secure lockbox inside vehicle (for when I can't carry into a particular building/area)
  • Extended capacity magazine (8 rounds)
  • Smith & Wesson M&P Shield 9mm with seven round magazine (I carry with one in the chamber) with Crimson Tide LaserGuard LG-489 (red)
  • Hornady Critical Defense 9mm jacketed hollow points
  • Böker Plus tactical knife with titanium handle and 440C stainless steel blade
  • Alien Gear Tuck 3.0 IWB holster with shell for S&W M&P Shield 9 w/CT Laser (very comfortable; I highly recommend)

Question...... the 3914 gives you 9 rounds of 9mm vs. the 547 w/ only 6, in a lighter package. Why not the 3914 + the 915???? For 27 rounds of 9mm vs. 24.

Don't get me wrong I love 3" K-frames..... mine are 65s and 66s ! If you were packing your first 6 with .357s vs 9mm ....I'd give it 2 thumbs up!

Carried the 442 for years as my EDC and my Hi-Power ( cond. 1) when carrying FS. Now its my PPS most of the time. LCP for those times I can NOT print and P99 when I carry FS.

Carrying 2 semi's is an option. The 3914DAO is a great choice but being old school I like the revolver as first to fight.

The 547 is twice as heavy and with less rounds than the 3914 but it points so well and is more accurate in sustained fire that I like it for personal defense.

I painted the front blade with white out and that helps greatly with quick sight acquisition almost as fast as the Big Dots on the 3914:

Makes sense......years ago* I thought about carrying 2 guns if the "S-ever -HTF"..... my conclusion was a 4" model 19 strong side in a thumb break holster and a Browning HP crossdraw.

Today I'd be torn between my 3" 66 and a 4" 686 strong side with a 915 (17+1) crossdraw

*Pre 3rd Gen Smith autos.

I CCW several different handguns depending on the area I am going in, mode of dress, and "Just Because".

My CCW weapons are older (like me)

Yep...... but I was young and it was only if the SHTF...... my version of the NY reload.....if I was going to have/need a 2nd gun I wanted a hi-cap auto......and there were not a lot of options in the late 70s.

Besides Serpico..... was still fresh in my mind

Back in the day I felt a 1911 and snub as backup was enough to carry the day.

Now since, AISWB, the revolver has become primary for fast access and conceal ability and back-up has become a semi-auto for capacity, either a 3814 w/ 8+1 or the 915 w/17+1 for those days when more is deemed needed.

And these days with gang violence even more prevalent going "heavy" is an appealing option if in Injun territory (places I try to avoid).

Living in the 'Burg Bam Bam you know there are neighborhoods that could be dangerous.

I had cancer surgery up at UPMC a few years ago, and made lots of trips there. I was amazed at how you could go from million dollar homes to a "dangerous area" in just a few blocks. But I've always liked Pittsburgh, and it's only a ninety mile drive on I79 for me. But I always have a little friend along.

Best Regards, Les

Winter:
Charter Bulldog 44

Summer:
Smith 442

I mix a G26 and P3AT in there when I am in the mood for a bottom feeder

G26 is my city carry with a 22 round backup mag
P3AT is my deep deep carry or dress clothes pocket carry

Usually carry the largest revolver I can conceal...
442
36
3" GP100
4" 686
......sometimes a combination of two of the above

And every now and then a Ruger LCP, cause it's very easy!

S&W Bodyguard .380 in a pocket with trigger guard, or Beretta PICO .380 in a wallet holster, or Beretta Tomcat .32 pocket carry, or NAA Guardian w/ laser pocket carry in holster. Taurus Millenium P111 9m cross draw IWB on long drives because it can be accessed quicker and carries more rounds. Polycase ammo in all for additional effectiveness. Concealability with effectiveness is my priority. I don't open carry or carry without trigger protection. I like the initial trigger pull to be double action for additional safety. I carry with the thumb safety on if the firearm has one.
