Default Extra rounds for your revolver in home or car?

If you CC with your revolver, do you carry extra rounds and how many do you carry? Do you keep extra round in your nightstand with your revolver and how many?

Two speed strips in the summer in a rear pants pocket, two speed loaders in the winter in a jacket pocket. The home guns are all semi-autos with a full mag sitting next to the gun.

When I CC I carry a Bianchi speed strip in my watch pocket. If I have a jacket on I'll throw in an additional moon clip or speed loader in that pocket.

At home two speed loaders are kept near the handgun.

I use to carry 18 when I was on duty for my model 15. We actually fashioned speed strips. This was about when Dirty Harry started using HKS.

2 or 3 speedloaders depending on how I am dressed. I shoot IDPA/revolver so reloading is no great challenge, and I don't want to be standing there with an empty gun.

Either two speed strips or HKS speed loaders, with an occasional 2x2x2 belt pouch for 6 .357 rounds.

I typically carry 2 Safariland Comp I speedloaders in JOX pouches on my belt. If I need a lower profile I also have Tuff Products Quick Strips with a Simply Rugged belt pouch and a couple of Side Guard Holsters pocket pouches. I keep 3 speedloaders and a couple of strips loaded around the house. I don't keep any reloads in the car.

I no longer carry a revolver, but when I did, I carried an HKS speedloader in the change pocket of my jeans.

At home, I have loaded speedloaders for all of my centerfire revolvers that don't take moon clips. That includes J, K and N frame Smiths.

one speed strip in the pocket or a 2x2x2 pouch on the belt. At home, ammo is close by.

I haven't been keeping any in the car due to company rules.

I keep extra rounds in my car and I keep a speed strip and a speed loader in my briefcase. I keep a couple of speed loaders near my bed because the night gun is a wheelie, too. I seriously doubt that I will ever have the occasion to reload - if I need to then I'm in deep kimchee. But because kimchee can happen I have the extra ammunition around - I would never call it "handy" because it will take some effort to get it and use it.

I pocket carry a 49 along with a 8 round speed strip in a belt pouch. there are 2 HKS speed loaders in the truck console. Along with other ammo I have a fresh 20 round box in the back seat.

I tried carrying an extra speed loader in my pocket, it never worked for me, so in with the pocket holster was a 6 round speed strip.

Two speed loaders in the door pocket of my driver's side door for my J frame. During the winter I carry a speed loader in my jacket pocket. In the summer a speed strip in my watch pocket of my jeans and two speed strips in a briefcase for my volunteer job. My nightstand gun is a Model 10 snub w/two speed loaders in the nightstand drawer. I ran out of ammo during a gunfight when an LEO (carrying my issued .38) and it's something you never get over.

Two 6 shot speed loaders in the bedroom nightstand, my old duty Smith&Wesson loaded shotgun propped up between the night stand and the bed.

My wheel gun carry,,,a strip loader.
I do not expect to ever use the strip loader with my carry revolver, because I i'll never get into a gun-fight again. I have been there.
This is because I'm an old retired Officer, and know exactly my capabilities.
My weapon is for self-defense of me.
Say,,,If I were in line at our Wal-Mart, and a strong-arm armed robber came in up to the register of my line, I would not immediately pull my weapon because I was not the one in harm's way.
Concealed Carry License is issued to you for your personal defense only.
Now if this perp decided to walk up and start demanding the wallets be handed over and this perp came up next to me, I would then be looking for a way to drop him with a temple shot.
I do not in any way recommend this action to anyone, period.
I expect that other "retired" Sworn Law Officer's here would do about the
same.
Other than that,, I look just like the other "limp-along" codger's in Wal-Mart getting their prescriptions filled and a few groceries,,,,,,,

For clarity purposes and I apologize for thread theft - and I don't like to disagree with LEOs, retired or otherwise:

Quote:
Concealed Carry License is issued to you for your personal defense only.
I beg to differ. A concealed carry license, now called a license to carry due to open carry, is issued to you for the purpose of allowing you to legally carry a handgun on your person, concealed or openly. There is no specification with respect to whom you choose to protect with that handgun. If there was we wouldn't have to explain defense of third parties when we give the license to carry classes.

my theory is that if you practice 4-5 times/week, every week, you don't need more than 6.
i don't live the kinda lifestyle that puts me at risk.
150 years ago, there were shoot outs in the nearby town nightly, but now it's tame.

What kind of lifestyle is that?
  • Shopping at Lane Bryant?
  • Going to Virginia Tech?
  • Attending an office party in San Bernardino?
  • Going to a nightclub in Orlando?
  • Attending Ohio State?
  • Filling up your gas tank in Dayton?
  • Walking up to your front door in Cleveland?
  • Operating a pizza parlor in Akron?
Being alive is a lifestyle that puts you "at risk".

Not in Ohio.

Ohio self-defense law entitles you to defend another with deadly force if that person him or herself would be entitled to defend him or herself with deadly force.

You might CHOOSE to let somebody screaming "Allahu akhbar!" shoot up the line to visit Santa. Nothing in the Ohio Revised Code REQUIRES you to.

For CC, a double HKS Speedloader Carrier on the belt. For CC'ing with moonclips, I put some folded bubblewrap on the bottom to raise the moonclipped ammo to where I can grab it, and stop it rattling.

One speed strip- 5 rds- for the j-frame. Not so much for reloading during the excitement, but more for making sure I'm not holding an empty gun until the authorities arrive.

I'm headed to a coat & tie thing this evening and, in addition to post 21 above, will put two speed strips in my jacket pocket.

Y'all made me SO SO self conscious yesterday that when I went to a place where I often carry my 6906 for the added firepower, which I did not have on, carrying my usual EDC of a K frame snub, I took my speed loader out of my briefcase and put it in my pocket. I felt so much better; y'all made me paranoid!

I usually carry a S&W J or K Frame or Colt D frame (5-6) shots plus at least one reload. Speed strips are okay; however, I don't like a lot of stuff in my pockets. 80% of the time I use this Galco 2x2x2 pouch. It's a very fast reload, after some practice.

The pouch closes and snaps around the belt. Perfect for weak side under untucket shirt.

I carry 2 speed loaders in the driver side map holder, one speed strip reload on my person, a speed loader and a speed strip on the night stand...
when the fight is over I do not plan on standing there with an empty gun..... just say'n. Typical night stand clutter.......

I carry extra rounds for any gun I'm carrying. A speed strip or speed loader if I'm carrying the J-Frame, and an extra mag if I'm carrying something else.
I have two extra speed loaders in the night stand for the .357 (total 18 rounds).

Great thread with equally great info - Thanks to all! Hoping to not cause any controversy (again!) - I like mrchuck's comment about a CC license being for defense of yourself. I don't get enough practice, and I'm not retired LEO, so I would be hard-pressed to competently enter into any fracas except as a last resort. I'm afraid any 'hardened' criminal would probably get the best of me. And, thus, I tend to stay away from potential problem areas as much as I can - especially after dark! That said, I still carry as often as I can...

To get back on topic - I have been ordering Leatherman tool pouches off of fleaBay. They're around ten bucks shipped. They'll fit smaller mags and even a Speedstrip with six rounds of .38. I really like the fact that they're low-key - either on your belt or in a pocket.

Edited to add: Apologies for the Glock on SWF ...

On the occasion that I'm carrying my 442 AW, I don't carry any extra ammo as the majority of situations I'd encounter would be at sneezing distance with 1-3 shots being discharged. When it's colder and I can CCW my Glock 19 (15+1) I def don't carry any extra ammo.

In my nightstand I have a Glock 21 with an extra 13-round magazine (along with a Rem 870) as I will likely be barricaded inside my room/not retreating from my house.

Colt 44-40 12 extra rounds. If I need more than five shots,"That's sloppy shooting in self protection work!"

I carry a revolver by choice and a speed strip in my pocket. If you need more than a few shots in a defensive situation, you're in a firefight or outnumbered and should not have been there in the first place. If you don't go looking for trouble, good chance you won't find it. Anything can happen, but your best defence is your brain. At home, my 870 and buckshot.
