Shooting your EDC is like eating broccoli - you do it because it's good for you.

My EDC is picked based on concealability and effectiveness, usually a 3" .45 pistol or snub-nosed .357 revolver. When I shoot for fun, it is to make the smallest group in whatever time it takes. A 6" K-22 Masterpiece falls in this category, along with 4" to 6" centerfire revolvers, and occasionally a 1911.

I shoot my 9mm Shield about twice a month (about 75 rounds each time). I also shoot my Full Size 9mm M&P. But I like the full sized one the best.

I carry a M640-3 .357 and I shoot what I carry. Hormany CriticalDefense 120gr. .357 with no issues. I did pick up a box of 158 grain FMJ at Wal Mart for the range. I fired all 50 but it did hurt.

When I switched from IWB/OWB to Pocket Carry, my EDC was a PF-9. The recoil with that thing hurt, but I was accurate with it, so I shot it just enough to stay proficient and would switch to one of my 'fun' pistols.

When the Shield came out, IT became my EDC Front Pocket Carry (yes.. I can Front Pocket carry a Shield) AND because the recoil is so tame, it became one of my Fun pistols.

So yes... I enjoy shooting my EDC.

Yes, a 637-2, but I shoot mostly mild handloads for practice and add just a few full power rounds.

Yes Shield 9mm is very enjoyable to shoot. My other EDC, an XDm 45 ACP 3.8 compact is also fairly pleasant.

I recently injured my Tailbone & Lower Back after a fall on the ice, I have been carrying a pair of Ruger LCR's in 9mm since. I carry one in a Mika Pocket Holster and the other in a Simply Rugged Silver Dollar Pancake. I have shot both quite a bit & enjoy shooting them, I'm thinking I may stay with this set-up due to the light weight & shootability of the LCR. I also carry two spare moon clips and one Speed Strip, the 147 Grain +P HST is the load.

I understand your statement but totally disagree. YES, you should shoot it but I see no reason why you have to like it. In my case, I carry a 340 PD because it's light and fits into my pocket which means I'm going to carry it EVERYWHERE. Do I like to shoot it? Hell no. But I do on a regular basis and consider myself very proficient with it and have been carrying it every day since 2008.

I have lots of other guns that are much more enjoyable to shoot!

My EDC is the Ruger LC9s. Small enough for pocket carry, big enough to fit my hand, more punch than a 380, Nice crisp trigger. Not as much fun as blasting targets to bits with my Governor, but it is pretty consistent.

I edc a 642 like many others. I get no enjoyment shooting it, but I do to try and stay proficient. When I retire in 18 months I will have other options and will likely retire it to be a backup.

Me, too. I may be off topic, but I'm always amazed when I read comments that the Shield is "too big" or "too heavy" to be an EDC. I wear ordinary Dockers-type khakis and can easily pocket carry the larger M&P 40c. On some occasions, I'll take my Shield, which is even easier to pocket carry. I guess if one likes to wear ultra-tight blue jeans, even an LCP or Bodyguard would be hard to pocket carry, but forum members don't seem like a tight blue jeans crowd to me.

Default One to Shoot and One to Carry ...

My 360PD AirLite is a joy to carry but punishing to shoot:

My solution was to buy a shooter, my 640 Pro Series:

Now I feel I have the best of both worlds, a firearm, I can effortlessly carry all day long, and a weapon I can shoot all day long.

Default When Five may not be enough ...

Carrying a five shot J frame may not be enough, and a revolver reload is a good way to get killed on the street so my BUG is usually my 3914DAO:

Thin, light, and accurate with fast to acquire Big Dot sights:

i enjoy shooting all handguns I own (not like i have a huge collection); If not then why bother owning one. And when i am ready to carry, it'll be my PC Shield and yes I really enjoy shooting that one.

I dont believe i'd become truly proficient with anything if I did not spend time practicing, and as this is also a hobby for me said practice should also be fun.

Almost every thing I have is a shooter. So, yes, I shoot all of the guns I carry.
Sad thing about getting older is that long-time friends die off. Damn inconsiderate, if you ask me, but I'll get back at 'em before too long.

An ever-changing group of us needed ways to get out of the house after retiring - REAL retiring, so we'd have "A Day At The Range" about once a month in warm weather. Whoever agreed to bring snacks got to call the day. "1911 Day." "Glock Day." "Sig Day." "Caliber Day." - meaning .45ACP, 9mm, etc. Revolvers were usually broken down by caliber, too. If anyone did not have something that fit the theme, someone else would loan one. Or, run-what-you-brung.

It was all men, most of the time, but a retired lady deputy would come occasionally, as would a lawyer I taught to shoot some 20 years ago. She isn't retired, yet, but we let her come anyway. IF she brought the snacks. Which she always did, usually chocolate chip cookies she made. What she could do with a Glock 19 was purely embarrassing to *some* of us.

Not so many of us left, now, and some have moved to calmer settings. For a few years some of us went to Decatur IL to smuggle an old colleague out of a Lutheran Nursing Home where they thoughtlessly wouldn't let him keep his Sigs. Out to a friend's private property for shooting followed by cognac, and he was content. Without asking permission he departed 10 years ago. Top o' my list for revenge.

So, short answer, anything that goes on my person gets worked out at the range.

I like shooting my every day carry guns. The pocket gun is a 442. If I shoot the one with stock Boot Grips I'm good for 100 rounds. My AIWB gun is the 36. It has Pachmyer Compacts. I could shoot 200 rounds and just be getting warmed up. The weight and grips make it a great gun to shoot. Actually the second 442 I have has Hogue Tamer Grips that make it easy to shoot. The guns are in this picture the 36 has Combat grips here. The Compacts feel better to me so I took the Combats off.

Enjoyment is relative. There is no handgun I enjoy shooting more than my K22, but it would be low on the list of choices for EDC.

I don't consider shooting my 642 "fun", but there is satisfaction in knowing I can hit my target and could run the qualification course with it.

That said, one box of ammo is the end of the fun. With the .22, the fun has just begun when the first box is empty.

My choice for edc is a personal compromise. I love shooting my Glock models 17 (9mm) and 21 (.45 ACP) but they are a little big & heavy for every day carry. My edc is a Ruger LCR in .38 spl. I have Crimson Trace hand grips on the gun and that makes it a fun experience to shoot.

I carry a J-Frame .38 most of the time. I don't like shooting it but I tell myself it will hurt the other guy more than me. I enjoy shooting just about every OTHER gun I have. Just not the J-frames in .38..... But I didn't buy it for fun or comfort either.

I wouldn't OWN a gun I didn't enjoy shooting. I certainly wouldn't carry one that hurt to shoot.

If it hurts to shoot a particular gun, something is wrong. Either the gun is broken, which happens, it doesn't fit or you have the wrong technique. Gun fit is difficult with pistols. They are very hard to alter to get to fit you. So, you must spend time when buying to ensure it's a gun that fits you OK.

I shoot some gun everyday. My EDCs for now are a G43 and a Taurus View. Today I shot a little over 200 rounds through the G43, I could not shoot that much through the View. The View rides in my left pocket and weighs 11 ounces loaded. Nice BUG, not fun to shoot like the G43. Yesterday we had 57 people here for our Spring gathering. It is always amazing to see what everybody is carrying. All these folks shoot what they carry, comfortable or not.

I carry my model 60 no dash and my 659. I shoot them 40/60 at the range. Yes the 659 is more fun but the model 60 is fun too. If that model 60 were an ultralite I would not be near as happy.

I used to not like shooting what I carried. Then I stopped carrying my .40 shield and started carrying my Para Ordnance Expert Carry. Love shooting a 3" barrel 1911 with a full size grip.

I can honestly say shooting my wife's 642 is a ton of fun. I am seriously considering getting one for me. It's a lot more fun than shooting the LCP.

I enjoy shooting handguns, period. That said, on a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being the smile my suppressed Ruger rimfire pistols put on my face, I'd have to award my LCP enjoyment level 1.

My usual rotation, Glock 19, Wilson cqb .45-5", S&W 36 . I love to carry them, and I love to shoot them, I could put 100-200 rounds in the auto loaders at a session, not so much in the 36 due to the time it takes to reload and shoot 5 at a time, probably good for 50-75 at a session. So to answer the OP's question, I love to shoot my EDC weapons.

I carry an LCR 357 loaded with 38 spl +P and I shoot it a lot with 38 spl. when practice shooting. I have no problem shooting a hundred rounds with it. Most all of my shooting is with this gun. I like the 640-1 I just got also.
I enjoy shooting all of my J frames more than any of my small 380 or 9mm semi autos.

I'm of fairly small stature (5' 8" - 160 lbs.) and I shoot everything from .22s up to .44 mag. in both revolvers and semis. It may just be me, but even heavy magnum loads are quite enjoyable to shoot. The only problems I've ever had with the big boys are the plow-handled single action revolvers. They tend to twist in my hand...

The two in the lineup that get the most EDC duty are a S&W M438 and an XDs 9. Both are a treat with defensive loads. Others that get a workout are: S&W M19-3 4", S&W M581 4", Star Firestars in 9mm, .40 S&W and .45 ACP, and a pair of FEG HP clones. All are just plain fun to shoot. But I have to be frugal burning rounds... this retired old geezer has to eat occasionally, too.

Carried a 642 for a long time. No fun shooting, but I did practice with it almost weekly for several years. Now carry a Charter Arms .38 spl Police Undercover....6 rounds.....slightly bigger and heavier than the j-frame but really a joy to shoot. And yes, it does go bang every time.

Default Change the ammo no the gun

I have a Ruger LC9s and a Smith 360J. The Ruger I shoot well and often. My 360 is slightly heavier than yours. I like shooting it and do about once a month spring thru fall.
If you are not enjoying the pistol I'd change ammo to target wad cutters. They have little recoil and cut a nice clean hole. Another option is Hornady 38 spl non +p Critical Defense ammo 110 gn is a low recoiling round
Other thing to do is maybe a grip change. This ammo and Altamont finger grooves combat grips make my wifes M60 comfortable for her to shoot. My last Idea is to swap the titainium cylinder for a steel one and gain a couple ounces.

I tried S&W rubber Combat Grips and didn't care for them. Didn't like the wood either then I put on Pachmyer Compacs. My 36 is a dream to shoot now. It's strange I have Two pairs of Pachmyer's. The pair that feels best are a little softer and I can use Speed Loaders with no trimming. The other pair didn't feel as good and I had to trim them to use Speed Loaders. I didn't buy them so don't know if there are different models.

Every pistol but one I have bought I have shot a copy of it in advance of the buying .. The one I didn't I got a too good to be true deal on it was the reason ..

I have avoided buying a few because of that when I thought I would like a certain pistol and didn't after shooting it several times (Shield bought the Compact instead) !! I also bought one I hadn't thought about buying at all but shot a friends and liked it so well I bought one to carry .. my Beretta PX-4 Sub Compact and its one of my carries now ..

So by renting a pistol on a range its easily found out if you like shooting the model your looking at .. if not move on to something else you will be much happier and stand a better chance of carrying all the time if you do !!

I just can't see buying a pistol I didn't like shooting unless it had some kind of sentimental feelings .. I bought a friends gun who suddenly died from a heart attack .. or to add to a collection of models ..

My 2 primary carry guns are a Ruger SR9c and an M&P Shield 9. I'm accurate with both and I could shoot the Ruger all day. The Shield is snappier, but still fun to shoot and takes a couple hundred rounds to tire me out.

I'm with the folks who won't carry a gun they don't like to shoot. If you don't like shooting it, how good can you get with it?

I have been carrying my shield 45 lately. Love it! Just put 100 rounds through it today.
I enjoy shooting any of my carry guns. I feel if you don't like shooting a gun you won't practice enough with it. If your going to use a gun to protect yourself, you better be good with it, and that takes practice.

My EDC is an M49 (see my avatar pic), that I do enjoy shooting. I carry and practice with 125-130gr bullets, so there's no recoil sting, as with 158gr loads.

I also like broccoli!

We should always practice with our carry weapons. I see many persons with " Rotations ", of weapons which is fine but that is why we must TRAIN. Some are DA/SA, Single Action only, etc. I only have three daily carry weapons as they all function exactly the same. I'm not smart enough or accomplished enough to " rotate ", so I try and keep it simple.

My EDC is a Colt Commander (04691) and I grin every time I take it to the range to shoot it. Now if I am just going down to the mail box I carry a Glock 43. It shoots fine but not near as much fun.

That said, I don't like the grips on most pistols marketed as easily concealable CC pistols because I don't like my little finger hanging off the grip and the slab sides.

I recently bought a CZ75D Compact after reading bigwheelzip's response to the comparison question I posed in the SD subforum. Even though CZ is compact and concealable, when shooting it almost feels like a full sized pistol. Plus the grips have slight palm swells which I prefer to the slab sided grips on most CC pistols.

I was trained in the 70's to "Carry what with you train; train with what you carry." My philosophy has always been to carry the same gun, in the same place, all the time. Get good with it and stay with it.

If shooting your EDC is not fun, get something that is! Otherwise you won't practice.

I have carried my M49 for nearly 40 years as B/U to my duty weapon, off-duty, everywhere, everyday. I shoot 50-100 rds with it weekly. It is FUN to shoot. I don't use +p which I'm sure aids in the fun factor, and I have NO issues with carrying non +p ammo.

Default Shooting EDC

I routinely shoot 100 rounds of 130 gr. .38 plinkers ( even the 110 grain Critical Defense shown here are no problem-but too spendy) at the range with my 642 and enjoy it.
