Do you enjoy shooting your edc weapon?
What do you carry and do you enjoy shooting it? I carry a 342Ti and it hurts to shoot it more than five rounds. I need to find another edc that is fun to shoot and carries well. Let's hear what your thoughts are.

I haven't done extensive shooting with the 642 but what I have shot was not unpleasant and I look forward to working with it more. (Primarily 130gr FMJ for training purposes.)
I enjoy shooting my Glock 19 and 26 (which are my primary EDCs) but I don't know whether you want to limit the discussion to S&W revolvers...If so, I also enjoy shooting the 3" 686+ though I only carry it occasionally. (And it's much more fun to shoot since I replaced the front sight with a fiber optic from Dawson Precision.)

Look for a CS-9-40 series. No pain with the Goodyear grips and conceals easily.

I'm carrying a Colt Lightweight Commander with 230gr +Ps this winter,
I shoot it often, if not every few days at least once a week.
Get along fine with it.
This summer, I may switch to a model 39 with +P+s
I enjoy shooting it as well.

I love shooting my EDC, a CZ PCR. I got it for the action, DA/SA decocker and no safety, but it's as much fun to shoot as my range guns.

ROTATE
Jim:
During summer snake season, I rotate carrying revolvers (S&W 65-5LS 3", 66-4 3", Rossi-720 3") w/the 1st chamber being #12 snake shot & 2-3 spares in my pocket. The rest of the year I carry a 1970 Colt Commander.
The secret to comfort is a good holster (Lobo Enhanced Pancake) on a good belt (Wilderness).
I enjoy shooting all four immensely!
With the aforementioned quality holster/belt, step up to a K-Frame. You'll like them.
Good Luck, Hank M.

A light weight Snub will be no fun to shoot , I carry a 9mm M&P Shield. It was hard to handle a first but after several hundred rounds and practice I really like it.

I enjoy my time at the range immensely. I carry a 340sc, an early Chief's special, and a Colt Commander. I do get more rounds out of the all steel guns than the AirLite, but I enjoy them all. I can not imagine owning a gun that I did not like to shoot.

I love to shoot my EDC. It's an S&W M&P 40c. I've had it for 2 1/2 years, and I shoot it a minimum of 200 rounds a month. My goal is to become as good as I can with it. Currently, I have 8500 rounds through it, with only four FTEs/FTFs. It is an excellent range gun, comfortable and accurate to 20 yards, and it would probably be decent at 25 yards, if I spent more time shooting at that distance. As far as I'm concerned, the 40c is the perfect EDC. It is reliable and accurate, has an excellent balance of hitting power and capacity (10+1), is small enough to be pocket carried, and it shoots so well, that the owner is encouraged to practice with it.

I thoroughly enjoy shooting both my carry guns..an M&P 9c and M&P 45c. The 45 can get a little tiresome shooting when I shoot hardball factory ammo, but that doesn't happen too often.

I have been carrying a HK P30sk in my pocket and for a pocket carry gun it is great to shoot. Put 100 rds through it last week and only quit because I ran out of time.

In my rotation, I have a S&W Model 36-6, 439, a Mauser HSc, and a 1911. I have no problems with shooting either of them repeatedly. I am awaiting a S&W Model 686+ 3" that I hope will be as easy to handle as my Chief's Target Special.

I have a 340M&P that I carry all the time. I also carry a 640 both loaded with 38 spl+p loads. The 340 is more exhilarating to shoot, but the 640 is a *****cat. Either way, they have the same feel (same grips) same sights, and "feel" the same so practice with either works.
Sounds like you need a steel J frame

My EDC is the new-to-me M&P 340 and I shoot it, along w/my LCP, monthly to keep my skills fresh. Neither one is really fun but I've worked up a drill that the range allows. Using a paper plate at 3, 5 & 7 yards I shoot the gun dry as fast as possible, combat reload and repeat. The goal is to keep all shots on the plate.

Love to shoot this gun and I see the front sight in the u notch very well.
I did shoot 357 in it once, that was enough.

I wouldn't buy one I didn't enjoy shooting! If you hate shooting it, it's going to be that much more difficult to force yourself into becoming competent with it.

Mostly carry a SP101, shoots pretty soft with 38spec+P, not bad with .357 magnum. I admit I don't shoot it near as often as the 1911s or the 4566. Sometimes carry a 6946, it shoots very soft. I think any of the Airweight J frames are going to bite a little.

I regularly shoot all of the handguns in my EDC rotation; 2-1/2" 66-4, 3" 60-15, 36 no-dash and Kimber Ultra Carry. If it doesn't come as second nature, it makes no sense carrying it as an EDC.
My Kimber Custom Classic and S&W 19-5 are relegated to range sessions only. The Kimber is too big to carry concealed comfortably and the finish on the 19-5 is too doggone pretty to risk messing up.

When my intent is to shoot for enjoyment, I shoot my S&W revolvers. That being said, I work at an indoor range and when I just want to blow off some steam or the mood strikes me to do some shooting, I pull a Jiff peanut butter jar of reloads out of my locker and run several mags through my XDs that is always on my hip. Seems I need to blow off steam fairly often and have come to enjoy shooting my EDC

Probably 70% of the time I carry a Beretta Nano 9mm; the other 30% of the time it is a Springfield XDs .45. I find them both very pleasant to shoot, and I shoot them a lot.

After I shot my 642 at the range, I talked with the range owner about it's felt recoil. His opinion was, they are nice to carry, (light weight), but no fun to shoot. This was four years ago, and after ten rounds through it, the 642 was retired to the safe. After this I went to Colt D.S., J frame Centennials, (640-3, 632, 940). These weigh 7-9oz. more, but are pleasant to shoot. I know that 342 ti is very light weight, and would punish your hand even more than the 642.

Interesting question the OP asked, and the honest answer for me is I have a rotation of three guns for EDC:
1. Colt Series 70 (heavily modifies to my likes).
2. SA Range Officer Compact 45 cal. (slightly modified)
3. S&W 340PD loaded with Speer 135gr +Ps.
I also have an M&P 45C that only goes in the rotation when I'm traveling.
I love shooting the 1911s, but the 340PD is another story. I have the advantage of shooting j frames since about 1968 therefore I've had a ton of practice with them. Shooting the 11.4 oz 340PD is fun to shoot for a short period of time. At 72 years old my hands aren't what they used to be for sure so what I do to make my 340PD shooting practice more enjoyable is I shoot it often, but not a lot of shots. I only shoot about half of a 50 round box of standard 38s each time I go to the range which is fairly often. That way the gun doesn't beat my old hands up. I'll have to say after practicing with my j frames for about 50 years, I'm pretty confident they will do the trick when called upon.
My recommendation is to shoot what you carry often, and have total confidence in anything you carry. If you don't like shooting your carry gun you won't shoot it often enough to get proficient, and if your not proficient with your carry gun....well you know the answer to that one.

My everyday carry is either a Ruger commander in 9mm. a fun gun to shoot at the range. the other is a Springfield Armory 1911 compact in 45acp. also fun to shoot. I reload so my range ammo in 45acp is loaded a bit softer. those are my year around carry.

The Colt DS is my favorite .38 snubby, and I've been carrying this for going on four years now.
It's a joy to shoot! It's like a short range target pistol, with +P or wadcutters! And it'll probably outlast me.
The photo has my oldest and youngest Colts together.

My normal carry is a Ruger LC9s. It's not really fun to shoot, but I shoot it every time I go to the range - usually about once a week.

My one and only EDC for the past 2 years has been a Shield 9. It was ok to shoot stock. I put an Apex in it and now it's a pleasure to shoot. I put at least 40 rounds down the pipe each week at paper and a few stages at IDPA/USPSA practice. It's a blast to play with on practical courses.

Yes. I wouldn't trust my life to a gun that isn't fun to shoot. For me, a K-frame snub is both easy to train with and easy to conceal.

EDC is a Kimber Compact Aluminum (Gen 1) in 45 ACP. It's a pleasure to take out and shoot a box or two of WWB or American Eagle 230 gr ball. I've had this particular Kimber since new and have close to 9K rounds down range. Only changes from factory stock have been a trigger and action job and Wilson Combat 470XC seven round mags. Almost forgot. A new spring pack went in at 5000 rounds and the 22 lb recoil spring is replaced about every 1500 rounds. And yes, it's a "BLAST" to shoot,.
In the BUG rotation are:
NAA Mini 22Mag
S & W 61-3
KelTec P32
S & W 3953
S & W 4053
S & W M19-4
S & W 60-14
Or some other J Frame, 36, 37, 38, 442, 642, 638, 640...
Class III

I like shooting my EDCs, but they are a 686 3" or a Combat Commander. On the few occasions where jeans and flannel are out, I carry a Colt Detective, and enjoy it and shoot it well. I have never enjoyed shooting a J frame, nor been able to shoot them well. I'm not sure why, but to me, there is a drastic drop off between the Colt DS and a J frame.

I have yet to see any 5 shot revolver with a truly excellent trigger. I'm able to shoot a J-Frame reasonably well, but will never enjoy them as much as a K.

That's a great question.
I don't exactly enjoy shooting my 442, but I do like the challenge of shooting it well.
Have you considered a heavier revolver to practice with? Like a 640? You mat find that the weight doesn't bother you that much and choose to carry it instead. Or you can get most of your practice in with it, then fire 5-10 rds out of your CCW. If possible, try to make sure they are set up the same (grips, sights, etc.).
Lastly, I almost always make time for some .22s. It reminds me how much fun putting holes in things really is.

My current EDC is a Ruger LC9S Pro and yes I do enjoy shooting it. It conceals well in a pocket or IWB, has a WONDERFUL trigger, and with 147 grain 9mm the sights are dead on. As for recoil, while it's a bit snappy it's not any worse than the 40 caliber Sig P239 I also carry at times.

My EDC is also a Ruger LC9s. It's not that I don't enjoy shooting it, I've just got other guns I enjoy shooting more.
Still I shoot it enough to know I can do it.

Improved Model 56 (2" Model 15) with Rogers/Safarailand grips. Always fun. Hard to believe, but occasionally my back gets tired of it. I must be getting old, even though I'm only 72.
My SB Model 12 is easy on the back and on the hands, although FBI loads are a little annoying on the fifth or sixth shot.

Comfort in carrying is important as if it is not comfortable you'll leave it home and not have it when you need it, or take it off at home and not have it when you need it.
However, comfort in shooting it is also a primary concern as if it's not comfortable to shoot, you won't shoot it enough to become proficient with it and maintain that proficiency over time.
It's a rare week that I don't put at least a couple hundred rounds down range with a handgun, with at least 25 rounds of that being from my concealed carry handgun.
----
In general:
1. Even a 36-40 oz pistol or revolver is not hard to conceal carry all day long.
This is however dependent on using a good couple thickness leather carry belt and a well designed IWB holster. In my experience, leather is more comfortable against your skin than Kydex.
2. Even in .357 Magnum, a 36-40 oz revolver is comfortable to shoot.
Lightweight alloy frame J-frame category revolvers are popular to carry but painful to shoot. Consequently, they double down on the problem that the vast majority of people who shoot them don't shoot them anything close to well.
When you consider .38 Special short barrel ballistics (which are at best no better than the best .380 ACP loads, and often worse than most .380 ACP loads), the combination of minimal practice and poor terminal ballistics turns the alloy snub nose revolver into a very ineffective self defense weapon.
A steel J-frame or J-Magnum will weigh about 7 oz more than a comparable alloy frame revolver, but that extra 7 ounces improves the comfort when shooting a .38 +P load and it makes a .357 Magnum load at least minimally tolerable.
The Ruger SP 101 is about 4-5 oz heavier and further improves the comfort of shooting it, and it will hold up to stiff loads better than a J-Magnum frame revolver.
The K-frame is where the .357 Magnum starts to be practical in a short barrel revolver in terms of shooting, and 2.5" ballistics start letting you get a 125 gr bullet up into the 1250-1300 fps range.
A .38 +P load in a 2.5" revolver will deliver velocities in the 1050 fps range with the same 125 gr bullet and it's actually pleasant to shoot.
3. All other things being equal, a snub nose revolver will be more comfortable to carry than a semi-auto of similar weight and dimensions.
Semi-autos tend to be uniformly thick in the slide and grip and contain more actual internal volume than revolvers that only have maximum thickness at the cylinder, with otherwise slim barrels and frames with thinner grips that is usually the case with a semi-auto in the common 6"Lx4"Hx1"W format.
4. Revolvers tend to be less comfortable to shoot than a semi-auto pistol that is of similar weight and overall dimensions.
This is an artifact of both grip shape and the mechanics of semi-auto operation. Locked breech semi-autos in particular are very good at spreading the same amount of recoil energy over along period of time and producing less perceived recoil.
----
Over the last 30 years I've conceal carried a number handguns including:
5" steel frame 1911 in .45 ACP
Browning Hi Power in 9mm Luger
3" alloy frame 1911 in .45 ACP
CZ Compact (9mm Luger)
4.25" LW Commander in 9mm Luger
S&W 6906 (9mm Luger)
Walther PPK/S in .380 ACP
Kimber Micro (.380 ACP)
1 7/8" S&W Model 36 in .38 Special.
1/8" S&W Model 60 in both .38 +P and .357 Mag.
3" S&W Model 60 in both .38 +P and .357 Mag.
3" Ruger SP101 in both .38 +P and .357 Mag.
3" S&W Model 13 in .357 Mag
2 1/2" S&W Model 66 in .357 Mag
2 1/2" S&W 686+ in .357 Mag
The pistols in Red were great to shoot, but they were not comfortable in all day carry.
The revolvers in Orange were comfortable to carry all day, and were comfortable to shoot in .38 +P, but were not comfortable to shoot in .357 Magnum.
----
My carry preferences are:
The 4.25" LW commander in 9mm Luger.
This is in large part because it fits me well, I shoot it extremely well due to years of practical pistol competition with the 1911, and the 1911's superb trigger and short trigger reset along with the mild recoiling 9mm Luger allow for very fast and accurate double taps, controlled pairs and failure to stop drills.
Either the 2.5" S&W 686+ or Model 66
There isn't any significant difference between these two in how they shoot. I shoot both of them well and they are both very manageable in .357 Magnum, although .38+p still allows for more rapid follow up shots due to reduced recoil, at the cost of about 200 fps in bullet velocity.
The 686+ does offer an extra round, but that's not a significant consideration and it's partially offset by 4 oz more weight. It is however more durable than the 66 with .357 Magnum loads and over the long term that's a consideration if you only own one of them.
These two revolvers are more concealable in summer clothing than the LW Commander, however, I also carry the Kimber Micro in a pocket holster as back up or as the primary when really light summer wear is required. It replaced the PPK/S in that role. It's not quite as accurate, but it is very reliable and easier to pocket carry due to lighter weight.

I carry a Citadel 3.5cs.
I'd much rather shoot 200gr. Speer Gold Dots through it for an hour than through something plastic the same size.

I don't understand why anyone would have an EDC pistol that he/she doesn't like to shoot . . .

Do you enjoy shooting your edc weapon?

Sounds like you need a steel J frame

Pretty close to exactly what I do - I carry a 340PD every day and while I'd shoot it a lot - it was NO FUN. So I recently bought a 640 Pro, put the same grips on it, and shoot the heck out of it comfortably.

Took my 66 out to the range Saturday & shot nearly 200 rounds before I knew it. And yes...I enjoyed it immensely.
