I slowed it down and it's not as close to his face as it appears (the instaneous recoil makes it appear as if he almost shot it off under his chin) but my lord the concussion had to have stunned him. Very lucky he did not shoot himself.

does he still have teeth recoil looked awful close.. The RSO where I shoot would have voided his membership and he would have been escorted off the property ..

I saw it done one time when a cop who put one in the ceiling foolin around with his buddies .. he is no longer a member .. but not nearly as close as that one ..

Disgusting. I mean, I feel sick sitting here, knowing that guy collects money for what he does. Not just for the...discharge. He's unsafe, his advice ranges from wrong to useless (that is not the grip and stance I would advise for a .44 Magnum...let alone the wisdom of instructing obviously new shooters with a .44), and his teaching style is atrocious.

That's one of the few videos I've ever seen that actually startled me. Geeeesh... it looked the muzzle was right under his chin when ya hear the bang. Fortunately it wasn't quite under his chin... yet.

Afterward he didn't miss a beat. I reckon he's had some practice at negligent discharges.

I did skip the video. No way I'm hitting the "play" button on something that I'm convinced ahead of time is pure-t dangerous ignorance.

Video ends at 25 seconds. At 30 seconds the guy announces it is break time. "Need to go clean out my pants"...

While I did skip it, because the description was enough for me, there are advantages to watching someone doing something that should never be repeated - you can tell yourself to never do that, without having to actually make the error.

Yes, there is much to learn from this video. Some questions I had when I first saw this:
Why is he demonstrating grip with a loaded gun?
Why was his trigger finger on the trigger when not pointed down range?
Why didn't he admit his mistake?

We all make mistakes. I can respect a man who can admit when he's made a mistake. I have little respect for a man who tries to brush an extremely dangerous mistake under the proverbial rug.

I would not have stayed in that class.

I was in a shotgun class when an instructor had a negligent discharge. The difference between that and this is dramatic. In the shotgun class, the instructor was demonstrating a port load. At no time was the muzzle pointed anywhere but down range. His finger wasn't on the trigger until he was finished with the load and pointed properly at the target. It's at that point when your finger should be on the trigger. When the gun fired, he didn't try to brush it off as a gun malfunction or the ubiquitous, "I meant to do that." He manned up and admitted his mistake, profusely.

That was easy to forgive. The OP's video, not so much.

I picked the short version of this clip...in the longer one, he keeps limping around the room, and has an assistant bring out what looks like an AK-47, or similar, at which point a little kid has the sense to shout "put it away" or "not another one"... I can't remember the exact words, but looking at it in retrospect, the kids had more sense than he did. Although I have to give him points for carrying on with a hole in his foot, and after what would have been my most embarrassing moment!!

Best Regards, Les

I thought the same thing because the DEA agent also kept on going like nothing serious happened. As recklessly dangerous as he was to yank out a loaded carry gun and wave it around, I'd have to say he was equally tough to have shot himeslef and then continue with classroom lesson #2.

Back in early 97, we had one do the same to the roof of 3 Picket. He had been playing with the AR 15, kept loading and unloading the round in between squeezing the trigger-while talking on the phone. I was at North Gate when the shot went off-slightly after 9 pm. Everyone knew he had recently split with his nurse girlfriend and was depressed as hell. We all thought he committed suicide. He didnt answer the pickets radio-phone, stentaphone and buzzer. A supervisor had to do a batman and robin

"special, throw a grappling hook/line-and climb up outside the picket.
Insteads-he surfed outta trouble because of kissing supes behinds and

hinojosa (aka) deadeye-or Little Sure Shot--was so scared he couldnt move let alone speak.

He SHOULDA got fired for this-but they let him off with a bullseye certificate because he was one of the main suck-ups for our supervisors.

Sure he did....the ceiling needed an air outlet put into it.
I like how everyone else in the room knew he was full of it and just starts laughing. I hope they got their money back.

IIRC - He was dismissed from the agency and then sued for wrongful termination. I do not recall seeing how it ended, but sure as heck hope that he did not get a dime of taxpayer $$$ for his stupidity.

For the OP - That guy is a maroon with a capital M.....where do they find these people? He would likely be just as dangerous with a squirt gun

Yeah this guy violated some basic rules and compounded them by trying to carry on conversation thereby not being completely cogniscent of what he had, i.e., a loaded revolver with the hammer cocked.
I've noticed myself that after firing several cylinders D.A., if I decide to cock the hammer and fire S.A., my trigger finger has developed a memory and I have to be aware of that.
Not excusing this incident whatsoever, but I could see it happening if you fail to follow basic safety and are distracted.

Says there above you was a fireman. Now, if you'd been a fireman in a big ol' city (presumin' you wasn't), you'd know that git'n fired from the civil servce cuz you was dumber'n a box of rocks was like hittin' the lot'ry.

First, you sue for wrongful term'nation. The you sue for back wages if they was nervy enough to suspend you without pay.

You still a reg'lar person tryin' to think like a true gibbering half-wit. No, you got to embrace the stupid, be proud of it. Reg'ar folk get all chastened when they git fired. Idiots get paid.

Since I come from a state whose total population is 1.8 million, I would say in SAFireman's defense that San Antonio, Texas, with a population of 1.4 million would be considered a fairly good size city. In fact, I checked, and it is the 7th largest city in the United States.

Best Regards, Les

And his finger on the trigger!

I got the feeling that he is very impressed with himself.

Well dern, then. Mebbe the San Antonio eff-dee jus' have a special firehouse fer the nimrods, in the middle of a lake or somethin'. Or mebbe he's from the way back times, when they jus' fired the nimrods, or had somebody give the ladder a good shake.

One way or the other, he don' don't know that the high-falootin' attorneys of municipal, county, state, and fed'ral gummints typically defend the dimes harvested from taxpayers by jes' settlin' up out of court with morons. Thus encouragin' more morons.

Yep, he lost all credibility by not admitting his mistake.

I've made a mistake as a rifle instructor once and I immediately called a cease-fire and had everyone on the range gather around to discuss what I did wrong so we could use it as a "teachable moment". I was embarrassed and humbled, but at least I had the muzzle pointed in a safe direction and no one got hurt.

That guy's ego cost him lifelong credibility as an instructor.

I agree. It is SO easy to become complacent, and distracted, by those of us that have handled firearms for years and years.
Something about putting in ear plugs or wearing ear muffs make it much easier to get in your own little world and forget what's going on around you.

I remember when the population of San Antonio had just hit the 1 million mark-back in the mid-to-late 80s. My Uncles girlfriend lived just inside the "official" city limits-my uncle lived 15 miles outside the limits on Ottawa Way--which is now miles inside city limits--or so ive been told?
