Default Candid Camera

Not !!! Here is our deal We bought a pice of property in a very rural small town . A good size pice of land chain link threw out. Our neighbor to north side are thiefs. Every one in that home is felons (Stong arm robbery ,theft ,breaking entering, rape. Before I get posts on why didnt you check this out prior we did. It was not showing up on public records. We have been in about home a while and have and still doing alot of up dates a remodels. These folks continue to tresspass and damage our place. Broken Windows rock throwing theft. We have.had Sherrifs Office out more times than we can count. They are very aware of these filks. All they keep telling us we cant do anything with out it being on camera . I have the up most respect for all law enforcment. But my question is what happen to the days when we didnt need cameras. Bolth myself and wife are in very poor health and on a very small pension and social security. Cameras are not in budget. We are saving for them but will be while. I have spent many a night trying to catch them in act but havent yet.

Sorry for your troubles. Do you have any family or friends local to you who might let you borrow something like a game surveillance camera, or who would be willing to stay with you when these incidents occur with a camera phone? If so they may want to consider being armed but that is a whole different discussion. Good luck.

Do you have internet at the house? If so you can purchase Arlo wireless cameras for less than what you're probably losing in damage. Doesn't take any special technical kills to set them up. Step by step instructions.

Side note, retired police officer friend, back when he was working, used to say whenever there was high crime in a neighborhood, it was almost always only one or two families that caused issues for everyone. Sounds like it might be the same where you're at.

To answer your question; "What did we do in the days before cameras?" Answer, not much. The way most laws are written you either have to witness the crime or find someone who did, then swear out a warrant for the bad guys. I too am sorry for your troubles but don't know how to advise you. Very frustrating. Please be careful. Using deadly force will get you a long jail term unless it's justified. Check your local law on the latter point. Good luck.

Since you haven't witnessed any of the incidents being committed what do you want the cops to do exactly?

Would like to see a bit better patrol of front streets by officers. They do for a day or so.And aschecking them I am useing extreme caution. Per S O office these fools have been know to fight with shovels and other things. They are cowards and I doubt they would come on property when where home. But some one comeing at me with shovel problem would be solved.

I hate to say this, but unless you get identifiable images, you're still not going to get any action. That means high quality cameras and a DVR. Cheap cameras are marginal during daylight and near useless at night.

On the other hand, visible cameras may be enough deterrent. It worked in our case.

Personally, I'd put one on a pole, in plain sight, pointed straight at their house. I wouldn't even hook it up to anything. Let them think all their comings and goings are recorded.

Continue being careful. Don't do anything where they can claim you're the aggressor.

Anyone that hangs visible cameras on their own property for scouting game will tell you how they disappear. I usually hang cameras in tandem where one is watching where the game is expected to appear and another is watching the first camera from camouflage. I've had a couple of people in court over the years.

Again, what do you have in mind to do to them that they will not "fare well"?

Just curious.

Being totally serious, I'm pretty sure it's not possible to reason with mentally ill sociopaths. They know you can't be talking about them and they see it as a sign of weakness.

I would be sure you were or if anyone else is left there alone was armed and able to protect themselves !! I would also store any valuables including guns other then the ones being carried some where else if that is at all possible !!

Game camera's might be a good buy if you can afford one or two as others have said ..

Good luck to you .. Stay Safe !!

Even junk yard dogs can be easily defeated. The type of scum you are telling us about are very apt to know a few of those means. So, you need to use something that they don't know anything about. IMHO, even if you have to borrow some money, get the multilevel camera surveillance recording to a disc put in on a few strategically placed poles. Make sure the cameras are equipped with a bright "on" light. Have a bright yard light put in by the local power company. They are surprisingly affordable. A local Municipal Court completely stopped miscreants from causing a ruckus while paying traffic tickets by putting a rather large camera in one corner of the main room with a "on" light. The camera moved from side to side and covered the entire room. The clientele didn't know that it was totally fake. It didn't do anything but move and 'tick' as it moved. The bad actors spotted it the second they came in the door. I would put one up on a pipe pole so the power cord could be placed inside. I would aim it towards the bad people's house.

You might tell the bad people that you found out that the rear portion of your property was an Indian Graveyard. You only found this out after seeing ghosts. The light keeps them away. Or blame it on the Fish and Game Commission releasing wolves in the area to re-establish them locally. I wouldn't let up on the 'stories'. Get a few pictures of those huge Boas and Pythons that are showing up in So. Florida. Let the bad people know to keep a watch out for them. .....Especially at night. ...

BTW, I am not trying to jest about this. The above works at a certain level.

To start, I'd refrain from calling them scum and such in public, and talking about waiting up at night to catch them (this is called "waiting in ambush" by prosecutors and civil attorneys), and about what you'll do if you catch them and how you're well-armed and such. All of this makes you appear a willing combatant.

Documenting each incident with the local LEOs is a good move. Get copies of the reports. If you can get a printed copy of whatever documented their criminal histories, DO IT. Newspaper clippings, whatever. Document how you came to be suspicious of their backgrounds. If the worst does happen, you want to be able to document that this wasn't a single, isolated incident. It was a long, escalating chain of events. And you want to be able to document what you know about these people, and how you came to know it. Remember--establishing self-defense revolves around the following question: "What would a reasonable person, knowing what you knew at the time, have done?"

If you can't document the things you know about them, then it's all paranoia and heresay. It's not about what's true, it's about what you can document.

Last thing--don't confront them, just call 911. Describe what they're wearing and what they're doing. Take a picture from where you are if you must, but again--seeking confrontation is not going to play well. Not to mention that failure is always an option.

Buy a couple of game cameras and place them strategically outside your house. They are some economical surveillance.

You are certainly in a tough situation. I know how frustrating it can be having investigating similar situations. Can you establish a pattern for these actions? Is it pure vandalism or are they taking property? Try to keep track of the instances and relate them to the local police. They may be able to assist you better. If that fails try going up the chain, perhaps the state level. They may have more resources to put an end to your problem.

Yes thanks The Sherrif Office been advised and out here many times. They actually go so far as to steal potted plants and even plats and shurbs that have been planted. Every officer that has been out has had many dealings with these folks. In fact one officer has lived next door to these pepole in past. He is the that advised us that many of them have massive mental issuses. He did speak to them and it stoped for a few days. For those posters asking what I would do If I caught them. Its pretty easy I would attempt to keep them on ground untill S O gets here.

Don't know how big or populated the rural community is where you live, but you might consider talking to some sheriffs department or county officials about increased patrol, and enforcing any other statutes besides vandalism/trespassing/ burglary that might also bring them some warranted but unwanted attention - social services, for example, if there are neglected children, etc. Sometimes, law enforcement might have tech resources that could be purposed for a specific problem based on reports and complaints. Still, to protect your property, you may have to break down and buy or borrow a couple of cameras. Hope it all works out for you

How close are these people getting to your house? Would they be in game cam distance 20-30 yards? Do you have an elevated place you could hang the cam but still get to it from inside the house? If you have a situation where they are in range, and you can access the camera, let me know, I will send you a new game cam, a few chips, but you will have to add your 8 AA batteries. Sorry for your troubles, Life is not what it was 40+ years ago, so we must continue to move forward. Be Safe,

Sorry to hear about your garbage neighbors. What I have always done and tell all my friends to do, is that when you get ready to look at a certain neighborhood or area, street, etc, go to the local police and ask them if they have any problems in that area. Most officers will be able to say if they would buy a home in that particular area or not.

My simple answer would be concertina wire on top of the chain link fence. And if that doesn't work, a couple of claymores or a fougasse drum would certainly prove to be entertaining.

What part of Florida do you live in? There are several chapters of Nam Knights (vet & cop club) in Florida. I think hosting a nice little picnic for a chapter in your yard would be a nice gesture......and a lawn full of big burly guys in colors hanging out for a couple of hours then roaring out past the inbreed shed (neighbor's house) may put the kibosh on the bullying spree.
