Rotation
I tend to rotate my E D C firearm every month to anonther one in collection. I do this with my lockblade knives too. How many others do this I change like clock work on the 1st of month. For me I guess its just a chance to give all of them carry time. Why do you rotate ?

I don't rotate just for the sake of doing so. I carry one of two guns depending on how I dress. Sometimes both.

As I tend to EDC as if my life depended on it, I will only carry those handguns for which I maintain an acceptable level of proficiency and "muscle memory" through regular training.
I do tend to carry my larger handguns during periods of cool weather and smaller ones as it gets warmer.

Same. I have tried others when I bought them but my EDC has been the same gun for a decade. G19. Only time that changes is when I have to wear more formal clothing. Then its a G43. But that's not often

Some folks like to play with a bunch of their guns.
I wouldn't dream of rotating sd weapons: for me, it's a Colt Commander most of the time.
Occasionally a M38, when dress prevents carrying the Commander.
Proficiency is much more important than variety.

I don't have a Rotation. I have my Primary carry pistol (Shield) and three 'back-ups' (G19, G26 and XDMc) that I stay proficient (and extremely comfortable) with, should the Shield ever need to need repairs.
I simply don't wish to think about which pistol I'm carrying Today/This Week/This Month.

M642-1 IWB with +P in the daytime. M60-9 IWB or OWB with .357 at night. M66-1 2" OWB with .357 at night during the cooler weather (which is not very often down here in Texas).

I spent 33 years carrying guns mandated by my employer.
Now that I am a retired fuddy duddy with my shoot-out days behind me, I carry whatever strikes my fancy on any given day. No formal rotation - one day my trusty .32 Pocket Hammerless, or my old Detective Special, or a LW Commander, or maybe even my Hi-Power if I go to the big city of Denver.
Today I'm going to walk on the wild side - an open house at our veterinarian's new digs in our sleepy little town. I figure 5 rounds of .38 S&W will see me through. Hey - at least its a Smith.

M&P Shield every day. If dress dictates, a Model 49 J frame. I have confidence in both, but I'm better with the Shield. If it ever comes down to crunch time, I want to be better. Folding knife, Benchmade Griptillian. Swore I'd never get one due to the cost, but now I see why guys like them.

Don't do it and don't understand the reasoning behind it.
Ever hear the adage " Beware the man who only has one gun , he can probably use it well ."
I have one gun , for the last 25 years it's the one I practice with , I shoot it often and can now shoot it fast and accurately . I know the feel of the trigger, the sights , the trajectory of the ammo I shoot from 5 to 50 yards, I trust it with my life . Why would I change to another gun every 30 days....seems to not make sense to me.

Only reason to rotate is to change out similar firearms wit the same features but are different sizes
Changing out a 1911 for a revolver and then a Glock etc is a stupid idea and will be put you at a great disadvantage if you ever need to use it.
Practice with what you carry and always have it in the same location, same function, same options (safety or no safety, hammer or no hammer, same trigger, etc)

What this guy said.
I have a Glock 23 converted to 9mm that I carry 9 months of the year and a Glock 17 I carry the 3 cold months of the year. Same features and sights on both guns.
Yes they are the most boring firearms I own and I have many that would qualify as more interesting carry pieces, but they are reliable and I shoot them well

I rotate because I sometimes have a hard time walking in a straight line...
Seriously, despite what some may believe, it IS possible to be quite proficient with more than ONE firearm. I have a bunch, and they all like to be taken to the dance. I pride myself on dancing well.
Anyone ever hear of cross-training? It isn't anything new, but it is a sizeable component in the Spec Ops world. So, what's different when it comes to personal defense? Perhaps your spit-shined favorite super pistol is sitting atop it's shrine out of reach and a situation pops up in which you absolutely NEED a weapon NOW! Do you bemoan the fact that the closest firearm is Gramps' old double 12?
C'mon... let's get practical, guys. I even shoot friend's guns, to get familiar with something different, when I have the chance.
Works for me.

I shoot almost every week at my gun club, 2 days in a row. One week it's my S&W 686 shooting .38s, the next week .22s with my S&W models 41 and 617. My gun club is only 8 minutes from home.
Two days in a row allows me to clean them fairly soon, switching makes it easy to clean the same caliber.

I rotate Snubs now and then but most of the time I carry Two of the J-Frames. They just fit my hand the best.

For me it's always been about carrying one platform more than one gun. If you own 7 J Frames and carry a different one every day you're really not changing too much.
I know trainers and gun writers who switch off between platforms because their jobs require it and they do just fine but they have a lot more time and money to invest in training and practice than I do.
I got to attend some professional training classes through my church and I objectively observed that I performed better and scored higher on my qualifications when I quit bouncing around and stuck to one platform.
The only real reason I would have to switch out my gun would be my concealment needs and really I can't remember the last time I had to dress so formally that I couldn't conceal a Glock 19.

Same gun, same holster, same belt, same location, etc.

Carry one gun. All total I have 9 handguns , from 22 to 41 magnum, 4 double action revolvers , 4 semi-autos and one Single Action. But only carry the one Airweight 637 in 38 special. Every time I go shooting it goes and I practice with it to keep familiar with it and make sure it's in 100% operating condition. I enjoy shooting handguns and always have been a "shooter".
Over the course of many years and several guns (starting with a 1911 45 acp) the Airweight just rose to the top and I found it to suit me best , natural selection you might say

Dido. I have a M&P full size 40, shield 9, and a BG 380 that are used depending on need. Shield gets about 90% time. All controls are the same, just different size. Muscle memory for as little thought as possible.

I carry my Ruger SR9c whenever I can (love that gun), but when I need more concealability (or just want a little less weight for a change), I carry my Shield 9 which has the same manual of arms (i.e. thumb safety).
But when I just want to throw something in my pocket for a walk or whatever, it's a Ruger LCR .22 Magnum.

Don't have a rotation, just carry as big a revolver as situation allows.
I carry a Ruger LCP when it suits me....same general operation, point it at target and pull the trigger.
I think carrying some guns with safeties some without could get confusing in a bad situation....but I'm easily confused

I have several edc in my rotation. I change them about every week or two. Mostly depends on weather up here. I like big bore snubbies, so I have Smiths in .44 sp., .45 Colt, .44 mag (but I only carry .44 sp for edc) and a 357. I also have a Charter Arms Bull Dog .44 and a Colt Defender.45 for warmer weather. I just picked up a Kahr CM40 for pocket carry. Have to break it in first before I carry it. Doing that tomorrow. I don't see anything wrong with rotating your edc. Kind of breaks up the monatany.

I drop an LCP in my pants pocket in the morning and it remains there till bedtime. LCPs are pretty cheap these days... only $199. Should I buy a few more and rotate them?

Ruthie has one with pink Hogues. I could therefore gain access to both camps.
As dad would say: "Phil, you're smarter than a house cat."

You can't have an every day carry rotation. You either carry a gun every day or you carry different guns on different days. EDC means every day carry.

95% of the time it's a 3913/14/NL....... if I need hi-cap it's a PC Shorty-9..... or a 915........basically the same gun(s) on steroids.
I will admit to a fondness for the Beretta 92..... Compact 13+1 ; the Type M, Single stack 8+1; and Centurion...17+1... again basically the same gun..... with, by the way, the same controls ( though I am switching to the G De-cocker only ) as the Smiths.
All carried at IWB at 4 O"clock in a Milt Sparks holster.............. so basically the same guns just some have big or fat butts.
Woods bumming/ at the cabin ...... requires a revolver ..... generally a 3" 66 or my "kit gun"...... a 3" 60-10 micro 686

Wow. Is there anyone in this thread that didn't comprehend what he was talking about?
Besides, you're wrong. EDC does stand for "every day carry", but it doesn't mean you carry the same gun every day. It just means you carry every day.

I don't rotate, and I believe that it is a mistake. I fully understand the desire to play with all or most of one's guns, but it should probably not be confused with the usual function of an EDC CW. However, if you feel that you are in an area where you need not carry a CW anyway, I suppose it's as good a way to check out some aspects of a weapon as any.
I do sometimes change from one EDC to another, usually based on what I consider mandated limitations on clothing, occasionally based on my own physical limitations. I consider those who carry the same gun for years and years to be privileged to follow a practice superior to mine.
Does that make my attitude towards "rotation" clear?

They do have memory. I can throw a baseball, a football, a knife, and a tomahawk. I can juggle three baseballs, I can shoot a free throw, a layup, and a three point shot. All have different muscle memory. All I need to do is practice with each, and remember which one I have in my hand at the time. That's fairly simple. When I'm carrying a pistol, I'm always reviewing which one I have and where it's at, a process I start when I put on the holster or stick it in my pocket. Those who profess to be unable to remember more than one automatic process probably have trouble breathing and walking . . .

I can understand carrying like guns. But I've always taken pride in knowing different guns and being able to operate them proficiently.
I can pick up one my guns in the dark and immediately know which one it is. Doesn't bother me in the least to carry different guns. Been doing it for years.
This guy has too.

If you carry and practice with the baseball for 30 days and then pick up a basketball and try and make a basket, your chances of success are considerably lower than if you had carried and practiced with the basketball for those 30 days. Same applies if you practiced with both, your chances are lower than if you practiced exclusively with the one you ended up using.
Same applies to firearms. Carry and practice with the same handgun exclusively and you will shoot it better than practicing with and carrying three vastly different handguns

There's merit in owning and carrying only one gun, but not enough to override my hobby of guns.
For carrying... as long as the same manual of arms applies-- squeeze trigger go bang, I don't see a lot of reason to fret over it. LCP or 642... not too worried about it. Carrying guns with manual safeties is another matter. I've seen WAY too may guys at the range try to fire a carry gun with the safety engaged. How would they do in a high stress situation? Requires a ton of practice for a person to depend on reflex action or muscle memory or whatever it's called.

And if you do each regularly, instead of focusing on one for extended periods of time, you'll be pretty good with both . . .

Guess I'd better get my Ed McGivern on and start rabbit and bird hunting with my M19 cuz I'm too stupid and uncoordinated to remember how that pump 870 operates, huh?
I also have a problem discussing Einsteinian Theory with the barn cats...

My EDC rotation is one of eight five-inch 1911s carried OWB with one spare magazine and one of two Sig P938 9mm handguns carried as a pocket BUG in urban areas with law enforcement help minutes away.
My boonies carry with law enforcement help hours away is either a Glock G35 40 S&W or a Glock G40 10mm with two or more spare magazines and the pocket BUG.
My woods concealed carry is usually a four inch S&W 29-2 .44 magnum with two speed loaders. My woods open carry is an eight inch Colt Anaconda .44 magnum with two speed loaders. The pocket BUG is always a Sig P938.

I also compare to driving vehicles. I drive 3different vehicles regularly. I can't tell you how many times I reach to my dash when I get in and go to put it in reverse only to remember this shifter is on the column. Or I go to put my cruise on and it's on the other side on this vehicle. One vehicle my wipers increase speed as I move lever up while in a different vehicle they decrease as I move lever up. And these are vehicles I drive every day. Just my $.02 worth. But I guarantee anyone of you that drivers multiple vehicles like this has done same thing.

Why do these threads always become "ego" measuring contests?
I've already made my case for why I don't rotate (aside from the fact that I don't have enough guns to make it worth while) and it works for me. If someone else wants to switch it up let them.
