Default After 3 Years of Conceal Carry in Illinois

Its been just over 3 years that Illinois has had conceal Carry Permits .. 228,000 have now received their permits in that time ..

The tri county area in central Illinois where I live has slightly over 10000 permit holders .. which comes out to about 18% of the eligible population .. one of the highest percentage areas by population in the state ..Tazewell County has the most out of the 3 counties with almost half of the permits ..

Classes for the 16 hour course ranges between $150 and $250 dollars .. the permit itself costs $150 for 5 years, additional cost for a picture and electronic finger prints vary .. non-resident permit costs $300 if your state qualifies but the state of Illinois can and will change the states they honor on a whim !!

It was thought that 300,000 permits would be issued in 5 years so well ahead of those predictions .. The shooting qualification is 21 of 30 shots in a B-27 target .. 10 at each 5 yards, 7 yards and 10 yards .. It would be very hard not to pass the shooting qualification .

Area police spoke persons say that Conceal Carry has been a non issue area wide !! Only 2 incidents with CC holders has happen and both were DUI's and the CC charges were dropped in both cases according to court records .. Its estimated 2.1 million people in Illinois have gun ownership .. the number has doubled in the last 5 years ..

Being the last state to have Conceal Carry we are slowly catching up to other states .. Efforts to carry more places is a continuing fight ..

Good job and keep up the good work. Thanks for your update.

Maybe someday I will be able to pass thru your state without having to take off my gun. Right now its the only state I work in that I am unable to conceal carry my Smith & Wesson.

I was glad to see you "honest folks" in Illinois finally have the right to CC. I spent three years working in Cook County during my career, Illinois is like several other states I had duty stations in, "two states in one". You have Cook County, then the rest of the state, similar to California and New York where I also had duty stations. A large metro area that dictated what goes on in the rest of the state. Glad to see the program is successful, although there was no doubt in my mind that it would be. Since I retired, I have taken up residence on " the border".

If you have a valid CCW from your home state then you can have a loaded firearm in your vehicle while traveling in IL. However, if you leave your vehicle then the firearm must be secured in the vehicle.
If you are from certain states you can get an out of state IL CCW. Check the state website to get the updated list of which states.

Its doubtful many will get a non resident license because Illinois has already removed every state on their list once and then add different ones .. even after there were people who had taken the 16 hour Illinois course and had received the Illinois Non-Resident License .. those were sent a letter saying the Illinois Non Resident License in their possession was revoked ..

Unfortunately. these stats are something you haven't seen nor will see in any of the conventional media sources here in the murder capitol of the country. There has been an average of three, never less than one and many times over seven or eight people shot daily and with exception of the two incidents you referred to, not one of these arrest (when they result in one) have been CCW holders.

Unlike the 2nd Amendment with it's limited restrictions, the 1st Amendment can be skewed without restrictions for the wound channels it creates throughout the moral fiber of society.

We now return to your regularly scheduled broadcast .
:At least 3 wounded in shootings on South Side - Chicago Tribune

April 5,2017 Year to Date
Shot & Killed: 144
Shot & Wounded: 641
Total Shot: 785
Total Homicides: 153

That is all.
