Default Preferred Home Defense Protection

I was just curious to see what you guys prefer for your home defense setup (revolver/semi-auto/longgun). Currently, I use a combination of revolvers (.38s) with a 12ga backup (plus several streamlightes for sight ).

If I wasn't sitting on the can I would show you. I have the Glock 17 on the nightstand with a 1000 lumen Nitecore. Then I have the 12 gauge 870 within flopping distance with another light taped to the barrel with electrical tape. Loaded with 2 3/4 military grade double buckshot then slug then buck and so on. And if all else fails I can let my wife out before my dog and see if she can talk them to death...

My nightstand gun is a Ruger SR snubby .44 mag, loaded with 200 gr. Speer Gold Dot HP's, moving about 900 fps.

I also keep a Win. Model 94 .30-30 tucked behind the bedroom door.

A S&W 642 is usually in my pocket at home. I have become a big advocate of carrying at home. If someone(s) were to kick in my door right now, I can't go running down the hallway to the master bedroom leaving my family to retrieve a gun from the safe. The 642 is also with me when I answer the door, step outside to get the mail, take out the trash or walk the dog. If I wanted to investigate a noise in the middle of the night that is likely nothing, but I still want to check it out anyway so I can get back to sleep, I would still choose the snub because of it's ECQ advantages which could definitely be asset in that situation since a close-quarter struggle would be relatively likely if someone were actually hiding in the house. During an obvious overnight home invasion or anytime I had more lead time, I would opt for one of my 9mm Glocks.

Although my Glock 19 isn't very sleek, it sits on my nightstand loaded with a 17 round mag.

I rely primarily on whatever my daily carry gun happens to be, in this case a 3 1/2" M1911.

That's backed up by a bunch of other handguns, a riot gun and an AR-15. The long guns are strictly for a civil disorder situation as they're mostly useless in my home.

Suppressed Five-seveN at the moment. Will be suppressed PS90, with subsonic 55 grain ammo.

As the only child in my house is 28, I have numerous guns spread about.

Actual children in the home would create major constraints. Glad I don't have to deal with them.

Default I use a combo

I use a combination. Ruger P94DAO and a matching carbine in 40S&W. Pretty unique I know, but plenty of Glock/hi point combos out there as well as revolver/leveraction carbines. Gives you a lot of firepower in same caliber if you need it ........IMHO

First line of defense remains locked and loaded 24/7/365 .. that would be my 3 year old German Shepherd Dog .. 2nd line right now is Beretta PX-4 Sub Compact ..

Not sure you would call it a sleek semi-auto .. more a short and stubby semi-auto ..

Dogs work well. So do motion detector lights. If that doesn't deter forced entry, I pretty much have my choice of all of the above, starting with a tactical light equipped double stack within easy reach.

870 backed up by a Model 10, maybe a P226, or maybe CZ75. It just depends. Thinking about a SD9VE. But the Model 10 seems to always be around

DefCon 4 is Tactical 12ga behind curtain.
DefCon 3 is 12ga plus 642 in nightstand.
DefCon 2 would probably add any of my CCW to my person.
DefCon 1 AR-15's handy and CZ-75b on my belt. Except when I go to the post office of course depending on Zombie infestation.

Could be going to DefCon 3 any day now.

The supersonic SS198 is only 27 grains. It won't be going through my neighbors' walls. Neither will the subsonic 55 gr. ammo I have for my PS90. I would feel comfortable if I did have kids in my home, which I don't.

Hopefully, I'll never find out but will be certain to examine if the unthinkable happens.

Understandable and agreed.i just remember shooting the 5x7 at the range and watching the flame come out the end. Then did some research on it to find out why. Nice gun, just couldn't afford the 1200.00 they wanted for it. Fun to shoot though and weighed next to nothing with no recoil from what I remember.

My service revolver (SP-101) is on the nightstand, and my BUG (340) is also near. A 36-1 is stashed near my recliner.

Usually the 442 goes from the pocket to under the pillow.

If I have a few seconds to decide, there's a 12-ga. coach gun handy with 00 buck.

If I have to reach a little further, I also have a .357 lever gun accessible.

Default ALL of the Above

Aloha,

Once we are settled in our new home in Texas,

the Wife has made it very clear that since we will be in the country and

away from any 911 response, we are on our own.

She wants DOGS and GUNS.

I got a Nasty LOOK when I suggested we call our place, "Fort Apache"

Anyone know where I can get some Dillon miniguns cheap?

The city won't let me dig a moat so I have to use a gun.

Carbine - additional wounding mechanisms of rifle rounds are a good thing.

Aloha BAM BAM,

No, not the Bronx, altho I have seen that particular building when I was in New York.

I mean the John Wayne, Henry Fonda movie in John Ford's cavalry trilogy.

My EDC is a CT laser equipped 360PD AirLite with .38 spl Hornady hollow points. This firearm is always on me even at night and when I sleep.

A nightstand gun is also present, usually a .45 with night sights, either my other carry gun, a 457 equipped with XS "Big Dots" on it, although I may choose my 4546 for one more round and the ability to use it as a bludgeon if it runs dry.

I like to have a short long gun with laser and streamlight attached. I keep it handy, propped up by my bed. This can be a pistol gripped Mossberg 500 or for extended use if needed, a Sig MCX in 300 BLK.

If I have time and I hear something outside my door I'll rack the shotgun as fair warning and possible deterrent. I keep the shotgun unchambered but with the pump mechanisum released so I can chamber a round during the act of picking it up. I do this with my left hand while holding my nightstand gun in my right hand should the sound of the racking initiate an attack instead of deterring it.

Clear space around the house, cameras, early warning alert dogs. Other measures inside.

LOL I knew what you meant .... the other IIRC wasn't in Texas either!

Didn't John Wayne and John Ford film the "Trilogy" in Monument Valley?
