Default Tennessee and gun free zones...

Heard on the radio this afternoon that Tennessee passed a bill that will hold "gun free" establishments libel for injuries incurred in the event of a robbery or other life threatening occurrence.

Is this true or is the Bill still in the process of going through the channels?

It's true, They passed it a few of years ago. Anyone can post their property "No Firearms", and can be held legally responsible for your safety.

The radio host must have been reading a post on "Free Republic" dated 4/16/17.

Even the people commenting on the article think it's a new law.

Never mind......

Tennessee passed "Guns in Bars" back in 2009. Some establishments didn't like it so they posted No Firearms signs.

Then in 2015 we have the Chattanooga terrorist shootings on military property where guns are not allowed. That stirs up a big fuss.

Enter 2016... our lawmakers throw us a bone that a private establishment/property owner posting a No Firearms sign has a "duty of care". If they fail in that duty they can be held liable for whatever harm occurs.

There's also another part of the bill I think is more interesting. If an establishment does not post a No Firearms sign they are immune from civil liability for the above duty of care liability claim, absent gross negligence.

Eh... I think it was just our boys in Nashville dreaming up some pro-gun words of little effect for average Joe. Rather they keep focused on Constitutional Carry.
