Hardened criminals (like these) don't respond to bluffs or intimidation. They have been in and out of the system so much that they consider it a joke. You will not change their behavior. Sorry to be such a wet blanket, but you are not going to win here, no matter what you do.

I agree with the others and would not suggest doing a show of force, I think you would unnecessarily escalate an already bad situation.

Maybe try something a little different like host a monthly cookout for all the local leo's in your area and/or let them know that they are welcome to stop by for a cold drink whenever they are over in your area; basically try get them to stop by and be seen hanging out as often as possible by your neighbors.

Also, I like the camera idea. Although it might not immediately stop them, I'm guessing they won't enjoy the extra attention and might curtail some of their behavior.

I open carry when I'm on the ranch. Regardless of the reason why I'm outdoors, I'm always armed.

Don't really expect to run into a gang of thieves trying to ransack a hay barn or rape any cattle. Mostly for hogs, coyotes, snakes, etc...

Out where we are at your 'show of force' is typically a conversation starter..."nice lookin' gun Bob, what you got there?" But I guess if everyone knows that I'm always armed, then I'm not upset about it.

Back to your original question though; I will say with some experience from years past overseas that bringing a gun to an argument is a good way to turn an argument into a gun fight...If that is what you want or are preparing for, then so be it. I'd just personally stop posting about the subject all over the internet when it comes time for legal action after the fact.

Good luck to you Sir.

Corrections Officers only have LE status while working. They are not street officers and DO NOT, for the most part, know the applicable laws. As someone said above, COs are prison guards. They do not deal with all aspects of the Penal Code; only that which applies to the custodial setting and the Welfare and Institutions Code. Further, it's never a good idea to run a bluff with a gun, particularly in this state. Definitely bad advice.

I've been scratching my head about this, wondering about the most appropriate handgun for when you are expecting to run into a gang of cattle rapers.

I'm usually pretty comfortable with my firearm selections for bears, mountain lions, alligators, and water moccasins, but I've got to admit this has me stumped!

A 1985 Department of Justice survey of incarcerated felons reported that 57 percent of felons polled agreed that “criminals are more worried about meeting an armed victim than they are about running into the police.” Did I read that correctly? The perps were more concerned about running into “an armed victim” than running into a cop?

Any other information in that area available? According to U.S. News & World Report, “Researcher Gary Kleck found that 92 percent of criminal attacks are deterred when a gun is merely shown (or, rarely, a warning shot fired). By inference, this means that open carry would have the effect of deterring crime in the same way that a thief might choose another restaurant when he sees police eating at his intended target.”

Would the knowledge that potential victims are armed prevent attacks in day-to-day living?

“In 1982, the Atlanta suburb Kennesaw required all households to have a gun. The residential burglary rate subsequently dropped 89% in Kennesaw, compared to the modest 10.4% drop in Georgia as a whole,” according to U.S. News & World Report. “Ten years later the residential burglary rate in Kennesaw was still 72% lower than when the ordinance was passed” (emphasis added).

Was hoping that everyone could see through the tongue in cheek nature of that sentence.

I don't know all the stats and figgers on it..........

But, the neighborhood I reside in at the present time, it is not unusual
to hear gun fire day or night. All my neighbors are firearm enthusiasts.

Target stands / bench rests at almost every house out here on the rural route.
Several are progressive loader operators and they enjoy their hobby/sport.

Ya know some folks live in those golfin communities....

Well, it's kinda like living in a big ol gun club around here.

Oh, did I mention, there has to my knowledge never been a break-in,
home invasion or any vandalism around my hood...

Yep. Ain't that a coincidence! We live in one of those similar communities where if you don't have some sort of firearm either on your person or in your pickup, it's a sure sign that you're a tourist!

I went on-line and Googled our community and its demographics. In the column that says "Crime Rate," there was a big "N/A." Go figger.

Sorry to hear about your continued problems. Have you thought about taking all your story to your local news group and see if they are interested in doing a human interest story about it, maybe it will help you get some attention and help from your county officials.

Too bad you don't know a few from a motorcycle gang that would do a ride around one night abut 3 am .. 30 to 40 loud motorcycles going around ones house can change someone's perspective ..

Point of Order; Sitting on my porch sharpening a 14" Bowie knife was a very effective deterrent when all of those jack-legs started crowding around my teenage daughter.
