I would be interested to know if he was using a holster or not. It seems unlikely that it would go off in his waistband unless he was trying to put it into a holster prior to leaving the car (or, more likely, he was tucking it into his waistband sans holster prior to exiting the car).

If it was already in the holster when leaving the car, how would it go off - assuming a modern holster that covers the trigger guard.

That is precisely the reason I'll never pocket carry a single action pistol "cocked and locked" ( as with a Sig 238).

Cocked and LOCKED is safer than any striker-fired pistol, but I wouldn't stuff either a Sig 238 or Glock/M&P in my waistband or pocket. That's what snub .38s are for, especially the hammerless 642/442, etc.

I'll bet he was carrying AIWB and was trying to put his gun in the holster.

My first thought as well, may have had something get caught in the trigger guard area as he was holstering. Really have to be aware with AIWB; striker fired makes it even more imperative.

OUCH !!!

I've never felt it was comfortable for myself but my Nephew carries AIWB but told me he always holsters the pistol then puts it inside his waistband clipping it to his belt .. not putting the holster on first then holstering .. says doing it that way will eliminate the chance of shooting yourself trying to holster the pistol and with the holster he uses its just as easy and a whole lot safer !!

Something found it's way to the trigger.

Yep I am sold on carrying a revolver. You all can have those light trigger action semi autos carrying cocked and locked/safety on.
To each his own according to his/her own beliefs in what is safe for them.

I have a close friend who recently lost his left (he's right handed) index finger when his 1911 style EDC accidently discharged. He was at home but cannot remember what happened and is an experienced shooter. My only purpose in posting is to remind everyone to please be careful when handling your weapons; ALWAYS follow ALL safety rules.

Please, no Glock Bashing, but I have to say ....
A while back, someone posted a picture of a guy who blew a big hole in his left hand. He was field stripping his Glock to clean it and pulled the trigger per Glock instructions. Blam!

Was it Glock's fault? Obviously, he left a round in the chamber. Even then he would have been ok if he kept the muzzle pointed in a safe direction, not at his off hand!

Yep. I've been carrying AIWB for a month or so now and that is a good way to do it. Admittedly, I carry my 442 there and I don't always unclip the holster. I would with a Glock though. Hands down, no questions asked. But not everybody does it that way.

If you do a search on neglegant or accidental discharges a lot of info pops up. I do this every so often to remind myself to ALWAYS follow the safety rules. This is a sobering read.
