Honestly guys I think this has gone far enough, hopefully nobody is going to get on a plane and fight each other. I would recommend dropping it at this point. I come to this forum because most of the guys are a great wealth of knowledge on S&Ws and guns in general, I see answers about ammo, reloading and even screwdrivers. I hope it doesn't become a fight every time a ego is bruised or a disparaging remark is said. Let's honor this Memorial Day and use it to honor the things that bring us together.

You didn't say the words, but what you did say left me with the impression you have done a lot of work with LEO's. That you had a good reputation with LEO's or they wouldn't keep using you for ECQ training or coming to your ranch as guests back when you owned it. Being invited to compete in the early UFC and being recruited for the Olympics in 3 combat sports gave me the impression you're well known (I didn't use the word "famous").
I probably read into it something that wasn't there.

It honestly doesn't take much to be a DT instructor. Simply being one is not some great achievement. I started training in and subsequently teaching various martial arts in the private sector at a very young age and most of my initial contacts came from LEO's seeking out additional resources through that venue. Police and even the Military will often bring in civilian instructors to improve their DT and combatives programs.
I did mentioned I was invited to participate in the UFC. This was the mid 90's and things worked very differently then than they do now. I never would get an invitation today. I had got a call from then promoter Art Davie. He said he wanted to put me against Ken Shamrock since he thought we matched up well since we were about the same size. I really had no interest in competing, let alone alone against Ken since there is not much doubt in my mind that he would have kicked my butt. A lot of these early UFC "invitations" were challenges and were rather mean spirited. Whether Art Davie thought it would actually be a good match up or he just wanted to put me in my place due to something I wrote in an MA magazine since I had publicly criticized the UFC on a couple of occasions, I don't know and don't really care.
Regarding the Olympic combat sport recruitment deals. I actually did pursue one of them since I thought it would be a great honor to represent the U.S. in the Olympics even though I really didn't care for sport-fighting in any form. I had a good deal given to me, but one day the coach sat me down and said I was the most physically gifted athletes he had ever come across, but I was kind of a loose cannon and ultimately a liability and subsequently cut me from the team after 6 months. I thought about taking another path, but decided against it and focused on teaching reality-based systems.

So right. This was a great thread with a good variety of input until thread drift took over and then got personal.
Moderator, maybe it is time to close the thread.

Actually, I laid out a year and a half and just collected my pension, refereed soccer, went to the gym, and chauffeured my daughter around. I was called out of the blue in January to lend some age and experience to a couple different county agencies, and it turns out I enjoy it more than I thought I would. Plus if I hang on for seven more years, I get another pension . . .
