Poll: Mika Pocket Holster - Draw Technique
Was curious to get an idea from those who carry a J-Frame in a Mika pocket holster, how many of you draw the gun with your trigger finger inside the holster along the frame, (as recommended by R. Mika), ...and how many draw the gun in the traditional fashion by simply wrapping your fingers around the grip with the trigger finger outside the holster?
Thanks in advance.

Outside.
I have a 642 and an LCP for pocket carry (not at the same time). Mika's for both. Finger outside allows the same draw stroke for both.

"Traditional fashion" in Levi's front pocket, Mika style if in jacket pocket. For me it has more to do with pocket room. I really don't carry it much anymore. Without much practice I'd probably just pull it... however. My LCP has taken over. 642 is now in my "Get Home" bag that rides in the truck as a backup.

I use a Galco pocket holster and cannot get a finger inside the holster but doubt I'd do that. The idea of my finger that close to the trigger while the weapon is clearing my anatomy makes me nervous.

It's interesting you say that, Phil.
The first holster I was sent was cut a bit too high up and I couldn't get a good master grip on the 642 in my front pants pocket. I also felt very uncomfortable using his suggested "trigger finger inside the holster" technique.
He kindly built me a new holster which was cut back as I wanted so that it afforded a superior master grip. And, interestingly enough, this one seems to lend itself to using either method.
I think in an emergency I'd probably just grab the grip and draw the gun unless I had an opportunity to stage my finger inside the holster in advance of having to draw.
Probably should have added another option in the poll where "both, dependent on circumstances", could have been selected.

Sure. Carrying in a jacket pocket and given circumstances, I might just get ahold of the gun and choose to shoot through the holster and jacket.
I think your options on the poll are fine. There's not enough bandwidth to list all the possibilities in the world of 'what if'.

Score so far: 14 "outside" / 2 "inside"
(I have not voted as I was looking for opinions of others)

I'll be an outsider. Seems to be more natural to slide my extended finger along the inside of my pocket rather than hoping it doesn't jam against the backside of the recoil shield.

My jeans are too tight to draw with my finger on the inside of the holster. I'd most likely be begging the hold-up man not to shoot me while I tell him I'm getting my phone out to give to him, rather than try to out-draw someone from my pants pocket who already has the drop on me. Otherwise, I'd try my best to already have it in my hand before the situation devolves to the point where I need to quick draw from my pants pocket.

Pocket carry might not be the best option for jeans or other pants which are too tight for an efficient draw using either method posted in the poll.
