NRAs Carry Guard insurance
Have any of you who have a Concealed Carry permit, or maybe not, signed up for NRA's Carry Guard Insurance? The bottom layer premium seems to be about $150/year but I haven't seen how much the two top layers annual premium will be.
Does this seem like a legitimate likely piece of insurance to have if a person is going to carry pertection? Or is this just another way NRA has come up with to get into our pockets?

I don't know about how good or bad it is, but I am on the email list for USCCA abd they made a really BIG deal about how horrible it was that the NRA cancelled the USCCA's booth at the NRA show - because now that the NRA is offering concealed carry insurance they are now "competitors" in the market place.

I was not overly impressed with how the NRA marketed it. They kept pointing out how it was developed by a bunch of former Navy SEALs. I fail to see the connection, and find it troubling that they would go that route. Do they really think I'm so dumb that I just buy stuff based on "operator" approval?
The "Bronze" package only covers you for $50,000 in criminal defense. This is nothing. The civil liability protection is also a paltry $250,000. Even "Gold" membership only jacks up the criminal coverage to $150,000. What do you do in the event of a mistrial?
They also don't mention anything about what their legal defense network is like. As far as I'm aware, other concealed carry "insurance" programs have extensive networks of expert witnesses, which for me, is the biggest advantage of using them--getting access to competent council and the best expert testimony available.
On the upside, it appears that their protection is guaranteed. Other programs review your case and can elect not to cover you if they think your actions were indefensible, because they're based on a "group coverage" type of setup. Frankly, I'm not worried about that.

I find carry insurance to be a confusing , yet interesting & necessary topic. In the unfortunate event of having to defend yourself / loved ones, the proverbial turds will hit the fan regardless of your degree of innocence.
trying to filter out what is relevant in all of the numerous coverage options , requires educated assistance. many homeowner policies provide defense coverage, if an event were to happen on your property or in your vehicle.
The Mrs and I are seeing an attorney at the end of the month who specializes in 2A rights.
I'll report back w his input
thx.

It is another way to get in your pocket. My brother, an attorney, is very against pre-paid legal defense. If the NRA could dig up Ed McMahon, they would.

I believe the Carry Guard is just that...insurance. You have to pay out-of-pocket for many (most?) of your legal expenses and then file a claim(s) to get reimbursed—and only if found not guilty (acquitted).

The Insurance and Training are interwoven while still somewhat separate. Members of CarryGuard will have enhanced access to video training online as a member. In-person training is VERY tacti-cool in orientation (1500 rounds in 2.5 days with airsoft "force on force" training at Level 1), is limited to "Glock and Sig226 style weapons" with a prohibition against ANY revolvers or 1911 style weapons, and costs $850 for the 2.5 day training. Levels 2 & 3 have been promised but no details have been made available as of yet.

The odds of a concealed carrier having to shoot someone are minute. Insurance for such a rare occurrence is dubious.

Exactly what I was told. I don't have that kind of money to put up front.
IMO its not worth it.

True. Therefore the benefits of carrying a SD firearm are equally dubious - in fact they are pretty nearly the exact the same odds.
Do you carry a firearm to be able to protect yourself "just in case"?
If so, then why would you not want to protect your wealth and freedom (to avoid jail time) as well?

I belong to the Armed Citizens Legal Defense Network. it's $ 135 for the first year and $ 95 for renewal.
Board members include Mas Ayoob and John Farnam.
Worth looking at.
