been looking at getting a new belt from 5.11. have any of you used any of the 1.5" nylon style belts for CCW? how well did they work to hold the gun up.
been looking at the 1.5 trainer belt but not sure if it was stiff enough

I tried their nylon belt and was not happy with it. I switched to their leather belt with stiffener inset. So happy with that one I just ordered 2 more after wearing out the one I bought 3 years ago. That's wearing it all day, every day and ccwing. I order mine from Optics Planet.

Good for IWB since you can cinch it to exactly the right tension but for OWB I like this Galco one better. It has stiff liner.
I have had one for over 20 years and is still going strong.

I have a heavy leather belt I normally use that works fine but I don't care for the spacing of the holes in the belt. aside from punching new holes in it it is normally either too tight or too loose. depending on what pants I wear with it.
that was one reason for looking at the trainer style belt with the buckle system it has

I have one of the nylon and two of the leather 5.11 belts. The nylon works well but the leather just feels better. Old school, I guess.

I've got two different weights of their leather dress belts. Love them both.

I've been using Wilderness Tactical's "Frequent Flyer" .... 5 stitch...... belt for about 2 years with good results....... up to and including Beretta 92 Compact and Smith 915. the unlimited/infinite sizing (not limited to 4 or 5 holes) is great for both IWB and OWB carry

<$40 IIRC

I do, but it has to be a light carry firearm. I use one with a Ruger LCR and a High Noon Holsters Skin Tite model. The holster is made of thin leather, so it makes a good, light weight carry package. Don't think it would work well with a heavier firearm. That would be better served with a quality leather belt.

For the casual look (non-tactical), I've been using "rachet" style belts since forever (before even they made it to the gun apparel industry).

Today, I wear the Kore Trakline belt as part of my EDC. It's 1-1/2" wide, rigid, stylish, and relatively inexpensive for a ratchet/slide -type of gun belt. These belts support firearms up to something like 4 pounds or so.

I'm usually wearing a 5.11 Tactical "Double Duty" nylon belt which has two layers laminated/sewn together. They're also reversible.
5.11 Tactical Double Duty TDU Tactical Belt, 1.5" | Official 5.11 Site

I'll also wear some other brands made in the same manner. On my belt, I'll be carrying whatever suits me as I go out the door, whether IWB, OWB, 1911, Glock, SIG, revolver, with spare ammo, badge, and handcuffs.

I used to wear the 5.11 Trainer belts, Wilderness Tactical belts, and Galco's version of the same. They all worked. They all cost more. All the belt tips began to fray. I never had a need to use the buckle for rappelling. (Any rappelling was done with a fuller harness.) With the large metal buckles the belts were heavier and these trainer/tactical belts didn't work as well as an under-belt when a full duty belt was put over them. The 5.11 Double-Duty belts work as inner/under belts also, if wearing a full duty belt over them.

I wasn't happy with that style belt and went to a leather belt with stiffener .. you'll be glad you did ..
The only time I wear the nylon one is when I am CC my P238 ..

I have one that is black with silver buckle and is a bit dressier then the flat black one I have .. If you live where its very hot and it will get wet with sweat get at least 2 to allow one to dry ..

I've been very happy with belts from Hanks. They hold up better than anything I've used, the prices are reasonable, and they will support a full sized gun.

i'm a fan of wilderness too... the instructors belt with reinforcement holds up my heaviest load for classes. TRP with 4 spare 10 round Wilson mags, and 2 AR mags to boot... costs a bit more, but made in USA!

I recommend Bullhide Belts (google it). One piece leather 1/4" thick, tough as nails.

Reasonable or pricey if you want something fancy.

I use CompTac belts. Double layer of bullhide with a kydex stiffener. They do not look like gun belts, and so they don't scream TACTICAL. I had a 511 belt when I was still working, it made a good range belt.

I went through three leather belts with my full-size 1911 in six months. I finally got the belt as described above. I must say that it is tough and trustworthy. The leather belts split, crack, stretch and tear. I did not believe in gun belts specifically made for guns until going through all those leather belts. Nylon gun belts are definitely the way to go if you want your belt to last.

I am using Carhartts work belts, great price and great product!
If you can fold it in half vertically it is NOT sturdy enough..

I wear a Blue Alpha Gear Cobra EDC belt off duty. I love it, and can carry a Glock 19 with spare mag all day without any issues. IWB, OWB, big meals, it doesn't matter. No issues. I highly recommend them.

Yup, been using their trainer belts for off-duty carry for years. Plenty stiff to a Glock 26 in an Aker Flatsider holster.

I have the 5.11 leather and like it.
As a plus, I don't need to keep a handcuff key, so I use the slot to carry an emergency $20 bill.

I've been wearing the Wilderness Tactical Instructors 5-stitch belt since the mid 2000s. It's a great belt.

I bought the 5.11 knock-off belt since I was in a cop-shop that sold 5.11. Tried it and it is nowhere near as good for holding the locking position . . . went back to the Wilderness. It's an issue of the belt buckle, not the material.

I recently picked up a 1.5" 5.11 belt at my LGS. It's 5 stitch and double thick black on one side OD on the other. Very nice belt and the price was only $29
