Default ok, G42 or 442 for checked bag?!

my 442 is the better gun, as we ALL know. its also a bit slow to reload, but i'm still of the camp that 38+p is better than a .380. that said, the G42 has more rounds and a reload is just flat out quicker. so, 442, and 2 speed loaders? or G42 with 2 spare 8 round mags? i'm leaning G42 'cause if anything happens to it, its just a G42. my 442 however, is an old and trusted companion. although not tough to replace, its one of my favs. what say you all, the best and most valuable resource i could think of...

If flying with a handgun I typically pick one that wouldn't make me shed a tear if something tragic were to happen and it was to somehow go missing.

Sounds like between the two your best bet would be the 42.

I can understand the attachment to a well-used gun, but 442's are also easy to replace -- and not expensive.

For a self-defense CCW gun I tend to carry whatever gun I feel handles my SD needs and I can shoot the best -- and not worry about the cost.

42 for every reason you mentioned plus..... thinner, lighter, more ammo, easier to conceal

Are the laws different in Fl. when flying because up here in Maryland a gun, be it a pistol or rifle must be checked in an approved locked case, the person flying must show the gun to the airline rep and lock it in their presents. The person flying retains the keys. The case must be sturdy enough so one cannot pry the locked cases sides up and reach in side.
Guns in checked luggage equals legal troubles.

Which one do you shoot better? Which one do you feel more confident with?

In a life or death situation, where you will not have time to think, which one do you function better with?

Worrying about lost luggage is a distant second place for me when I'm thinking about protecting me and my family.

nope, same laws. i have a tsa box and have traveled with a gun many times. sunday i found some Glaser Powerball in .380, so it kinda made up my mind for me. i carry a G19 daily so the 42 makes sense. now that i have some quality, proven defense ammo (even if its .380) i'll feel better and about the 42.

I like the 442. But I don't Fly. If I lost one I would just replace it.

The Glock since they're invisible to metal detectors (remember that rumor when Glocks first hit our shores).

I'd say whichever one you prefer to carry. I don't want to lose any guns, but both those guns are easily replaceable.

I see no dilemma. Take both and decide what to carry once you arrive, if not carrying both. Double-check the carry laws of the states you'll be in. I've heard of one state, NM, which only allows carrying one handgun concealed.

My Daughter In Law carries a G42 and is very good with it. Remember that today's .380 defense ammo is a long ways ahead of the .380 ammo of the past. Load the right bullet and the .380 is a formidable summertime weapon. In the colder months with heavy clothing I'd forgo it for something a bit deeper penetrating though.

The two weapons you mention have very different operating platforms so my suggestion, FWIW (free here so judge for yourself) is which one you're most familiar with and which one you shoot the best. If things go bad you'll not have time to think, only react. I know b/c I've been there.

I would have to say go with the one your least attached to.
