Red face Rubber Dummy Target

My search skills are dubious at best, but I couldn't find any threads on this so...

"Oscar" arrived yesterday and I'm anxious to take him to the range. Based on reviews and youtube videos, I decided that it would be a fun way to build my skills (and give me another way to express my sick humor). Anyway, I'll give a range report - hopefully next week.

"Oscar" has settled in here nicely. However, he was already caught passing rubber checks at the local store, so Agents Smith and Wesson are hot on the trail. I don't think it's going to end well for "Oscar", but I'll keep him comfortable until the agents catch up with him.

If anyone has experience with these targets, please chime in. I got mine from bigdaddyhoffman for around $200 +shipping. He is offering a 10% discount, but I think you can buy direct from rubberdummies DOT com.

Way too expensive for me. I can buy a lot of paper silhouettes for two bills. Probably a lot of fun, but still...

Flamingoes are harder to hit, so it could be a more valuable practice target - hmmmm... Oh, those lawn trolls/dwarfs might be good too. Unfortunately, I have some neighbors who make Oscar look like a friggin genius; they'd come in and talk with him if they saw him.

Oscar was growing on me until I came back from the store and found him drinking my beer and eating gummy bears and Twizzlers

Funny story - I had just put Oscar on his stand and attached the baseball cap. My neighbor came by while I was outside cooking on the grill. She had brought some newspapers (for my parrot's cage floor) and ran inside to leave them on the kitchen table. I almost dropped my burger on the ground when I heard her SHRIEK! Luckily, she understands my weirdness and her husband is a shooting buddy, so I didn't even have to explain!

Other youtubers have named their dummies "Lt. Dan", "Second Base", etc. One guy had him in bed with him, feeding him cereal. As long as there are sickos in the world shamelessly posting this kind of humor, there's no hope for a cure for me...

I think most people would agree with you. It took my a while to finally go to that site and push the buy button. It's not something I can justify, even with all the + arguments the sellers and advocates toss around. They argue how it's more realistic and better for building SD skills, etc. They even compare the dummy to paper by saying that the dummy can last up to 5,000 rounds (depending on caliber), while that same amount of ammo would require over 100 paper silhouettes (even with tape repair) at up to $1 a pop for the "good ones".

It's definitely not for everyone, but I don't need much convincing to buy stuff that will make me smile. I thought about all the ammo I could buy (or another Shield with the rebate), etc. and pulled the trigger anyway.

I'll post a range review soon, before I get too attached to Oscar

I think 'Oscar" would be better at spoofing neighbors/passerbys than a target. Put some arms and legs and cloths on him and hang him from your gutter like he was holdong on for dear life. 8-)

It looks like Oscar could be handy to take along so you could drive in the HOV lane.

Can't imagine that I would ever want to practice shooting at a nude guy ... especially one who is so obviously "unarmed".

I JUST got "Oscar" but I plan to vent him tomorrow at the range. One of the things some youtubers have demonstrated is the ability to shoot the dummy at "bad breath" distance, which you can't do with steel. I might try some from that distance in addition to 2-10 yards away, where most SD shootings occur. I love steel and enjoy the instant feedback, but if I shot from 1 foot away, it might not end well.

If I have time, I might try some 5.56 at 100 yards too. But the primary purpose of my trip to the range is to break in my new Shield9 (which is my second Shield). In any case, I'll post my experience and maybe some pics.

Managed to put around 20 shots through Oscar and it was even better than I had hoped - for me, it really took SD training up a notch by shooting at a "realistic" target.

Because I was training a new shooter, I had to concentrate on that and didn't even have time to take some pics. A little primer paint and Oscar was as good as new and read for more punishment. I want to do some drills from under 5 yards, so I'll try that Thu or Fri (weather permitting) and post PICTURES.

BTW, the new Shield ran great with no hiccups and, for a striker fired pistol, IMHO the trigger is fantastic. I only put three mags through it, but it was smooth as butter.

While pretty neat, I'm on the frugal side.
I did find just the target alone for $130 shipped, and could almost maybe justify that, and just rig my own stand.

My son-in-law bought one of these, it was great fun to shoot at! Just be sure to have a supply white spray paint handy to "refresh" your dummy.

Yeah, it's pricey but... a 3D target does give you a different perspective when you do move & shoot drills. If you can afford it, go for it!

Lots of fun. My wife got me one for Christmas and it's been used quite a bit already. We shoot a lot of steel and now we have this... paper targets just aren't as fun!

Edit: sorry... I forgot to re orient my photos on my phone before uploading....

I had one of them "blow-up" dummies one time. While I felt a little out of place going to the range in front of every body;...that was not the real problem.

The real pain to deal with was, after every shot I had to go down range and blow her up again.

$200.00 American Dollars ?

My Daddy would have said something about having more money than sense...But Mamma taught me that if you can't say something nice then it's best not to say anything at all.

Oscar's real nice and I hope you two have fun at the range ,
Gary
