Default Open carry is fine but you don't have to be stupid about it!

Yes open carry is legal in North Carolina however you rarely see the practice applied. There is an occasional open carry but not often.

Yesterday while getting some ice cream at Dairy-0 there was a "kid" there (did not look to be 20 years old) with a young girl and three children. The gentleman was open carrying with a revolver that was half as large as he was. The revolver was in a holster that was not made for the handgun (two small) and the revolver looked to me to be about to fall out of the holster. He was carrying it at the 1:00 appendix position and he was indeed showing off his weapon as he kept parading around the Dairy-0 going back and forth to the counter, the bathroom and the trash cans and then stood at the hood of his vehicle facing the windows of Dairy-0 smoking a cigarette before they left........

I just had to laugh and think....what a Puttz.........

Your Dairy O guy sounds like he may be a younger relative of the guy I say walking around Home Depot with a revolver carried exactly the same way a year ago - holster too small, 3:00 carry, gun ready to fall on floor. He didn't appear to be shopping for anything, just taking a leisurely stroll around the store.

Then, a couple of weeks ago I saw a young guy walking down a major street in Detroit with an AR slung over his shoulder, muzzle facing down. If my wife weren't with me I would have pulled over on the opposite side a few blocks up just to see what happened when he walked past the police station located there!

That is why I differ with the KS law on open carry. I am opposed to it, except by an officer displaying a badge.

I am for Constitutional carry or open carry laws. I personally by absent minded and shirt tuck mishaps that I was by point of law in jeopardy of losing my rights.(lucky in my county, they are pro second amendment and the LEO came over, quietly mentioned my clothing mishap) Another example it would he useful not to have to CC when wearing a suit if/when my coat is opened.

Laughing at oneself and with others is good for the Soul!😊

What bothers me about jerks like one described is that they promote anti 2A sentiment. Most observers are smart enough to recognize flaunting, and they connect it with a show off. That can't do anything but diminish the observer's view of gun owners.

Personally I open carry only when hiking or backwoods camping. I do that because a hip belt on a pack makes IWB carry very uncomfortable and in a situation when you might need to draw the gun,it would be very hard. All other times I take care not have my gun be seen.

Oh yeh...open carry is legal in NC. I don't see it often though. Last time I saw it taking place was similar to what the OP saw.

Might be the same guy but we don't have a Dairy O where I live.

Dude I saw was carry what appeared to be a 7.5" single action revolver. Probably a Ruger or Italian one.

Holster was a low slung nylon job with the grip sloppily flopping around.

Wal-Mart but of course.

I've been noticing a fair amount of Open Carry at my local Home Depot in NC.

My biggest concern is the obvious lack of training or experience exhibited by SOME open carriers.

An officer of the law has many hours of training in gun retention before going out in uniform and carrying open. The same people that insist I keep mine locked up when not in "use" don't seem to have the time or energy to pass laws that would require at least an effort towards retention of open carry weapons.

My biggest concern when in the prescence of an open carrier is for their safety and then mine (ours).

It's as if they haven't considered the possibility of being cold cocked and disarmed, shaking off the shock, and finding themselves on their back staring up into the barrel of their own weapon being told to produce the extra clip or die.

I think like that, and I fear that any felon in search of a weapon thinks like that too. Ask youself: If forced to acquire a weapon for your own survival, would you rather try to make a staw man purchase, hold up a gun store, rob a home or just take one off of a bozo like some of the open carriers I see out there?

We've had countless OC/CC threads. The debates solve nothing and rarely end well, so we're done here.
