Anyone CC a 3" revolver on a regular basis?
If you carry concealed a 3" revolver on a regular basis, I'm interested in what works for you. Please share your setups (guns and holsters) that work best for you.

Tom, I don't carry it regularly but I have carried my 3" 686+ in a leather Triple K 314, or a JM Custom Kydex AIWB holster. Despite the size and weight it's surprisingly comfortable and conceals reasonably well.
Of course, depending on size and build, OMMV.

I don't anymore, but I used to. I had a 3" 65, carried IWB in either a Milt Sparks Summer Special II or in a VMII-style holster by another maker (no longer in business, AFAIK), carried around 3:30-4:00, on a 1.5" Beltman belt. The VMII-style holster was a little more comfortable because it spread the weight and pressure over a larger area, and I could wear it for 12+ hours/day.
For me, I find holsters that carry the gun with the cylinder about even with the belt offers the best comfort and stability, even though the thickest part of the gun is under the belt.
I also found that the 3" 65 carried IWB concealed better than the Glock 23 I had carried either OWB or IWB.

A little smaller than the above-mentioned K-frames, but I tote a 3" 60-15 a good bit, in a cheap Bianchi IWB holster when concealed. I use those holsters for almost all of my IWB carry, as they are almost as thin as the gun itself.
If I have a cover shirt on, it goes in a Kydex belt holster that serves all of my J-frames.

Since discovering the perfection of the 3 inch Ks about two years ago have been carrying one a lot. Two primary concealed carry holsters are a Milt Sparks Summer Special for IWB and an El Paso Tortilla for OWB.

I used to frequently carry a 3" Smith 65.
I carried IWB in a Don Hume 715M.
After all of the "Aloha Snackbar!" stuff started, I switched to a 3 1/2" M1911.

This about sums up my experiences too. Barrel length is really not that important. A 3" K-Frame IWB carries just as well as the 2" version. With the VMII you can even tuck your shirt in.
Also it depends what frame size you have with the 3" barrel. I can carry a J-Frame of that length in a big pocket, an L frame I'd probably go with OWB only.

I agree, and maybe even better, IWB. The additional barel length seems to "anchor" the revolver better.

I used to carry a 3" model 64 a great deal. I carried it in a pancake holster behind my strong-side hip.

At least with my VMII for a K-frame snubby, the edge of the holster comes down about 1" past the muzzle, which I think gives it a similar anchoring effect. This also means the holsters are just about the same length whether the barrel is 2" or 3", so neither is easier to carry than the other.
Otherwise yes I agree with most holsters the 3" will be better "anchored".

I also carry a model 64 with 3 inch barrel in a strong side pancake. Works well for me. I see some posters use an IWB and like them. I have never tried an IWB for a K frame so can't comment on them. Maybe I will try one someday.

I sometimes carry a 3" 686+. My holster of choice is a Lobo Leather IWB. I also have my grip setup with magnas and Tyler-T to help slim down the profile.

I carried a 3" Model 60-15 for a short while in a Simply Rugged Pancake Holster. I still do in the cooler months sometimes. But, I've carried 4.25" semi autos inside the waistband before without a problem. I find it isn't the length of the barrel that bothers me.

I carry a S&W Governor occasionally. Not technically a 3” but size wise, I’d say it’s bigger than many.

LOL.......3" 65 since about 1986 and a 3" 66 since 1989........first a Bianchi Pistol pocket ... then and still a 3" K-frame with Spegel Boot Grips
and a...........Milt Sparks summer special..........still do from time to time...... but generally a S&W 3913.
Still prefer a revolver for woods carry...................

Carry a model 65 3in. - Only thing I did was deburr the hammer, just smoothed the action and took the edge off the cylinder. Absolutely perfect for me.

I have carried my S&W Model 65 3 inch and my Ruger GP-100 Short Shroud 3 inch. But, living in South Florida where cargo shorts and t shirts are my normal daily dress to deal with the heat and humidity, I have gone lighter. My EDC now consists of a Ruger LCR or Colt Cobra. Hoping Ruger will introduce a LCRx .357 in the 3 inch version. Think that would make an outstanding carry revolver. Good luck with your decision!

About half the time I C/C it's with my M 65-5 3". For discrete carry, covered by a jacket, I use a Lobo Leather "combat special" For full C/C, I use a Lobo Leather enhanced pancake, or an old Safariland inverted shoulder holster.

I have been carrying my 66-8 2.75". IWB in a Tagua. Carries as easily as my 2.5" 66s and 2" pre 10. The Altai grip by Altamont makes carrying this size weapon a joy. When I can't go untucked then it is j-frame in pocket holster.

The 3" K-frame revolvers (M-10, 12, 13, 64, 65, etc) are about as perfect as a personal defense handgun gets. I have owned a 3" Model 10-HB for over 30 years, and I can't imagine anything that would be superior for every day personal defense use.
That said, be careful about expectations for ammo performance in the shorter barrels. Published muzzle velocities and energy are not likely to be attainable with the 3" barrels. Even if you can achieve the claimed MV and ME ratings you will probably subject yourself to excessive recoil, muzzle blast, muzzle flash, and other trauma. I recommend ammo in the .38+P range, and only when proven to shoot to point of aim in your revolver (most fixed sight revolvers are factory regulated for standard velocity loads of the most common type; i.e.: 158-grain RN or SWC, and other ammo types may demonstrate wide varieties of POI in relation to POA).
For carry purposes there are two primary considerations:
1. Concealment is the priority. In this case a good pancake-style holster worn just behind the strong-side hip (3:30 to 4:00 position) is recommended. Suggest you look at the Lobo Gun Leather 'Enhanced Pancake Model'.
2. Accessibility is the priority. In this case you might consider the Lobo Gun Leather 'Combat Classic' model, reasonably good concealment with outstanding accessibility.
Full disclosure: I am the founder of Lobo Gun Leather (1972-2015) and now retired, serving as a consultant to the Fedders family now producing the designs I perfected over 43 years in the business.
Being a consultant means that I have to shave more than once per week and dress better than your average homeless person. Maybe I also know a little bit about handguns and carrying them.

ONE OF THREE 3"
66-4 since 7/10
65-5LS since 5/15
Rossi 720 (.44Spl) since 8/16
all fit into a Lobo Enhanced Pancake just fine.

I have no trouble carrying my 3" K frame 547 AISW either in the Kydex holster shown above or in a DiSantis Nemesis "sticky" pocket holster although I do not pocket carry.
I find that the Nemesis offered better concealment, and being able to move it around for better comfort is a big plus with the relatively heavy and bulky K frame.

Grips and holster are both essential to effective and comfortable concealed carry with a 2 1/2" or 3" revolver.
Practically speaking there is no difference between the two for comfort or concealment, at least if you are carrying on the hip. I'm not a fan of appendix carry as there are too many situations where it's more difficult to draw.
Below is a Wild Bills Concealment Covert Carry holster. I used it with my 3" Model 13, and use it currently with my 2 1/2" Model 66. It's well broken in and my slightly larger 2 1/2" 686+ fits as well - a bit snugger, but still a good fit.
They conceal well with this holster in large part because the offset clip, keeps the overall thickness down. With a good double thickness carry belt these 36-40 oz revolvers are also easy and comfortable to carry all day long.
The grips are Pachmayr compact grips and I have the same style grip on my Model 13, Model 66, Model 686+ and 2 3/4" Speed Six. It comfortable enough to shoot full power .357 magnum loads and it's small enough to readily conceal.

BB57, That looks like a slick and very efficient rig. I sometimes think the short bbl. K Frames with adjustable sights were/are the best compromise. They are easy to shoot well and have plenty of power.
Every time I go to the range, I try to watch other people shoot. I frequently get reminded that large magazine capacities don't seem to help these shooters get many bullets into their intended target.

I have two 3" revolvers in my carry stable.
An early Charter Arms Bulldog that I carry in a JRT IWB holster.
and
A S&W M65-5 that I carry in a Bianchi 3S IWB holster.
Both carried at the 4 o'clock position.

I couldn't agree more, and thank you for designing such great holsters! I was just thinking the other day I need to get a couple Enhanced Pancakes for the rare occasions I carry OWB, I can't think of a better holster for the purpose.

Back in the late 90's I carried a 3" M-66 in an El Paso Street Combat just behind my right hip with a 2x2x2 ammo pouch just in front of the holster. I used Pachmayr Compacts. Comfortable and concealable and I occasionally carried my 3" M-65 with magnas and a Tyler-T for a change of pace. This was my duty rig for about 5 years as a detective until I was forced to convert to a SIG P220.

3" 686+ either in an Alessi pancake style holster or a Galco Miami Classic shoulder holster. Under a 5.11 button down shirt or a denim type shirt it works out well.

Isn't a revolver that's between a J-frame and a K-frame in size a Ruger SP101?

I carry 3" revolvers in cooler weather mostly. A 2.5" 686 with Speer Gold Dot 135 gr short barrel rounds, a 2.5" Charter Rams Bull Dog .44 sp with either Blazer Gold Dot 200 gr or Hornady 180 jhp, a S&W model 24-3 3" and a 629 Talo 3" both with the same load as the CA, and a 25-2 3" converted to .45 Colt with Winchester PDX1 225 gr jhp. I carry them in either a Simply Rugged pancake or a Craft Holster iwb. Very easy carry with a jacket or untucked shirt. I favor the big bore as you can see. Never will I carry a magnum round in the .44 magnums. No need for it for concealed carry personal defense.

I carried a 3" GP-100 in a Desantis thumbreak holster on my right hip for eight years. It wasn't too much to carry, and was comfortable when seated in a car for hours at a time. My Dad always carried his 3" SP-101 when he had to go to Philly, he believed the 3" SP-101 was the perfect size.

A treat for my 70th birthday. At my age I'm unlikely to wear it out. The condition was much better than I expected from the photos at GB.
I think it had lint on it that looked like scratches in the pictures. I got it for $500 less than the last one I was outbid on. ( I dropped out at $2k ~ $2280 was the final price for the winning bid).
Only the very faintest of turn lines on it if viewed in sunlight. No scratches or holster wear evident on the weapon. truly LNIB condition. This did give me pause once I held it in my hands knowing how valuable a 547 was in it's condition.
Nonetheless I was shooting it in my backyard in 15 minutes after I got it home after running a damp oil patch trough it.
The result of the first 6 rounds fired with it. At 21' double action, 115gr Hornady "Critical Defense". Switching to 135gr "Critical Duty" has brought it to point of aim for me.

I carry a 586 L-Comp in a Wright Leatherworks Banshee IWB. I replaced the factory Rosewood grips with VZ's. Planning to replace the worthless front night sight with an XS standard dot.

A few disclaimers. I like (strike that, love) steel guns. I prefer shoulder holsters because they distribute weight nicely. I am older and fondly recall younger days...
When working Anti-Crime (best job in the world) we were issued department owned 3" M36s. Carried mine incogneto in a leather shoulder holster. Once I wasn't limited to what was scribed upon my "10" card, I bought one of my own. Two inchers carry easier in pancakes. But the threes can handle a bit stouter loads, carry just fine in my shoulder rig, and best of all remind me of youthfull times on Atlantic, Flatbush, Morris Park...
