Default Corbon DPX .380???

I discovered that this round has been discontinued everywhere I look. Can anyone tell me what happened? While I don’t carry my Taurus TCP often I would like to have the best on board just in case. (Monitors: Please move if I’ve posted in the wrong spot.)

Then again maybe not. Didn't perform well in this gel test. But Hornady Critical Defense did.

From what I've read, the top two self defense rounds in .380ACP are the Hornady 90gr XTP and the Federal 90gr Hydrashock.

Google "shootingthebull ammoquest .380" it is a multipart comparison of different .380 acp SD loads on youTube. I don't remember the results, but he seemed to take several variables into consideration IIRC.

The three .380 SD rounds "Shooting The Bull' recommended after his testing were, Precision One, HPR, and Fiocchi. All three of these use XTP bullets. Here is the link:

Final Results of the .380 ACP Ammo Quest | Shooting The Bull

Fiocchi is the easiest to find, so that's what I use.

Too bad. CorBon makes excellent SD ammo. I carry their 9mmP 115gr JHP +p ammo in my G17, where it goes 1400 FPS.

I'm told that CorBon used to get all its DPX bullets from Barnes. However, Barnes cut a new deal with Remington and stopped delivering any of its bullets to CorBon, apparently in an effort to drive them out of the DPX ammo business. CorBon decided to manufacture its own bullets in-house and, while it has been a long and difficult process to get what they wanted, they're just about there. They are planning to resume shipping in December with one of the first big orders going to Cabelas. So keep your eyes open, you should be able to find the .380 ammo in the not-to-distant-future.

Where did you get that information? I was under the impression that Corbon has been making their own copper bullets for several years now.

Freedom Munitions is making a nice SD round with the 90 gr XTP at 1005 fps. Cheap enough in bulk that you can practice with your carry ammo.

It came from Pete Pi, the owner of CorBon.

We must have read the same reports. Those are the two rounds I carry in my Bodyguard 380, with the Federal HST Micro "on deck".

For whatever reason the Federal Hyrdashoks are great in the .380 (and lackluster in most everything else). I carry them in my LCP II
