Never could like striker fired, it's just a personal thing with me. To me a striker fired is something I cannot feel safe using for some unknown reason.

I'm part of the "don't like the trigger" crowd. I spent too much time and effort trying to get a Glock trigger to feel as nice as a DA revolver. Never happened.

So long as the trigger reset isn't a mile long I'm fine with a striker fired gun... I only own one, but shoot rather well with it.

This subject is a well worn path, like asking who builds the best pickup truck. Find what you shoot best, practice till it's operation becomes second nature, because in a stress situation, you won't have time to think about your weapon's manual of arms. That's why my EDC choice is an M&P Shield. Should the worst ever happen, draw weapon, squeeze trigger. YMMV.

Personally, it's because my first few handguns were all DA/SA Hammer Fired, so I'm just accustomed to the manual of operations. Furthermore, I like the second strike capability of being able to just pull the trigger again or thumb back the hammer and pull the trigger again if a round should fail to fire. Yeah, yeah, I know it's easy and probably more practical to just chamber a new round, but that's just how I am.

That said, my primary carry gun is a striker-fired pistol (SW40VE) at this time because I got it dirt cheap and very few companies are making affordable, reliable modern hammer-fired pistols at this time, so I was willing to accept a striker-fire pistol which only cost me $199 over a $600+ Beretta PX4 or an H&K USP.
Plus, it has a heavier trigger similar to that of a DA hammer-fired pistol of revolver, so the feel isn't too terribly different.

A major reason many departments chose the Glock when transitioning from revolvers to semi-automatics in the 1980's. Draw and squeeze trigger. No manual safety or decocker. Easier for officers who had trained on and carried revolvers sometimes for many years. Transition training shortened.

When in uniform, the last gun issued was a striker fired (M&P 40cal). No problem because it was on the outside of waistband (low ride holster).
When I carried AIWB for CCW, I tried a Glock 19 & S&W 9mm Shield but couldn’t feel comfortable with a cocked pistol.
I feel ok with a revolver (with hammer), my S&W 380 bodyguard or my S&W 9mm EZ (has both a manual safety & the grip safety).
For me it was/is a mental issue to carry a striker fired gun IWB at any position. Just Sayen!

Be SAFE and Shoot Often!

Let's not forget that Glock also offered pistols to LE agencies at below cost when they first started making inroads into the LE market.

I should add that I do consider Glocks to be great sidearms for those who choose it, or have it chosen for them. But Glock also had to overcome a lot of tradition and institutional momentum to get their pistols adopted in the beginning, so being the lowest bidder was a good way for them to get their foot in the door, in addition to their other positive attributes.

To add to ContinentalOps post .................

the ATF classified them/Glock 17/19 as DAO........very "politically correct" at the time!!!

Lots of Glock talk. I like Glocks, but.... Glocks are the Honda Civics or Toyota Corollas of pistols. They aren't great or horrible. They're "good enough." Very dependable and durable. Accurate enough. Super easy to work on for any one with basic mechanical skills and a couple simple tools. Maintenance consists of light cleaning and six drops of oil. Change a couple easy to access springs every few thousand rounds.

M&P's are similar. Good enough. Not great. Not horrible. Not quite as easy to work on as a Glock. Not quite as durable. But close. And less expensive than Glocks (at least retail).

I was fine with them until I started preferring AIWB - just not comfortable with any spring loading behind live primers pointing there 24/7, don’t care what mechanical safeties are in place. I only trust the physics of verifiable hammer down behind live primers for AIWB.
