After Some Considerable Thought
After some agonizing thought and pacing the floor I’m putting the Glock 27 in the safe for awhile and changing my main CCW. It’s time for a change!
I’m putting my Beretta Cougar 8040 back into the carry rotation. Ordered a new holster for it along with some nice wood coco bolo grips.
Glocks may be working guns but they are boring!

Much as I dislike G*****, don't you want your EDC to be boring?
Nothing agaist the B******, there are a couple in the family.

I was finally able to trade off my G27 - at a loss - so I understand your situation. That said - the 8040 is considerably bigger. I swapped my G27 for an almost new 442 - no lock. Much easier to pack around given it's size and weight. Have you considered (since you appear to like .40's) a PX4 subcompact? I think it'd be smaller and lighter than your 8040 ... I only mention this because, although I like my 8040 a lot and it's a keeper, it's way to big for CC.
Edited to add: Just noticed - March of 2000 - you've been around these parts for a while!!

Eventually the Glock will be put back in service, I dont hate it I just needed a change I never really liked Glocks but the 27 changed my mind on that! They just aren’t nice looking! I have one other one and that one is the 33.
Yes I really do like the .40 and I don’t remember which came first, the Glock or the Beretta. It was one or the other that I took to liking the .40 and I can shoot both very well!

The 8040 is one of the softest shooting 40s ever! Really notice it when you shoot other 40s back to back.

Spot on.
I like 'em all but when it comes to a carry gun I prefer boring and predictable with a simple manual of arms.
You'll have enough to worry about if and when...

Apart from their use as self defense weapons I have almost zero interest in guns. I don't get any particular thrill from shooting various guns or from shooting one gun over another and I can't say that I have any attachment to any gun.
The enjoyment I get out of shooting comes from watching my performance improve as I'm able to train and practice(2 different things) more. The last time I was able to participate in a training class I was much more excited that I was getting smaller groups at longer distances and getting through the courses of fire with fewer missteps than I was that I was carrying a Glock.

Off-topic but I enjoy variety and am constantly switching out nightstand pistol, etc. That said, it's rarely a Glock since they're too easy to fire - I'd rather have something that takes me a sec to get into action - just in case that bump in the night isn't hostile! Different strokes for different folks - and I'm not at all criticizing Grocks ...

I have only had to use a Pistol or Revolve in self defense twice. I never had to fire a round, but the need was instantaneous! And without my instantaneous response, the situation most probably would have deteriorated rapidly, as it was, I wasn't the soft target they were looking for!
I do understand the need to make sure you have a clear head! When my 4 kids were still at home and coming home anytime of the night (except when my daughter first started dating, nobody had a curfew), I kept a loaded weapon across the room; for that time delay!
BTW, having a nasty reputation with your kids school mates, is a wonderful thing. My house has never been toilet papered! In our area that is amazing when there is a pretty girl living there! One foolish young man threatened to my daughter's senior year, a nearby friend knocked him to the school floor, sat on him and while banging his head and shoulders ask, "DON'T YOU FEAR FOR YOUR LIFE?, You've met her father!" (this still gives me a warm and fuzzy feeling!)

One of my carries is the PX4 Sub Compact in 9mm .. my only regret is I didn't get it in 40 .. The softest 9mm I have shot .. easily concealed though not a pocket pistol .. Very accurate !!!

Here’s my three carry pieces with the Cougar on top wearing its new grips!
Still waiting for the new holster that I ordered for it.
Pictured is my 8040, Glock 27 and my Smith#36

I tried Glocks on several occasions, and owned a couple of M21s over the years. They were reliable and shot well, but just didn't fit my hands well.My current EDC is a PX4 full-size .45ACP.Prior to that I had carried a CZ97B.I switched to the Beretta because it has the same reliabilty and shootabilty as the CZ,but is much lighter. As the day wears on the weight can become an issue.

I like the long double action first shot on a carry gun...... grew up on revolvers shooting all double action. So while I've tried Glocks ( 19 and 26s) they didn't last long.......
I also like to have a little pride in something I carry everyday...... be it my gun, knife, flashlight, watch or money clip ..........even if never seen by anyone else but me.
My urban EDC varies a bit...... but mostly 3rd Gen Smiths (39xx,69xx and 915) or Beretta 92s (single stack M, Compact or Centurion) all with the same manual of arms...... only vary in size and capacity (7+1 to 17+1)....... since 1988...... with a 3913NL covering me 90%+ of the time in my quiet "Burg of the Burgh".
After being here for 10+years I've learned at least two things; there are no single right answers, nor the perfect gun for everyone............... enjoy!

Switched out from my 442 of decades to a Walther PPS in 9. Love the paddle release for the magazine and it shoots like a FS handgun. Not a fan of frequent weapon changes myself as instinctive use and familiarity under stress are life-savers!

I love the looks of those PX4 Berettas.
Love my compact, and would recommend that one out of the three.

Just my opinion, but I'm guessing he/she prefers a pistol with an external, manually operated safety not integral to the trigger assembly . . .

Old saying: "Beware the man with only one gun. He probably knows how to use it." It is not a fashion show - pick a firearm with which you are proficient and confident, and stick with it.

Beware the man with many guns, because he'll use the one closest to him . . .

Bad guys are notorious for only having only one gun......often stolen or illegally purchased...... and they are notorious bad shots!

As much as I advocate one gun year round I don't believe in that statement as it applies today. It may have meant something a 100 years ago but today not so much. I know many people with one gun and they all treat it like a fire extinguisher. Something you put away till you need it. My dad for example, has one gun. In almost 20 years of ownership he only shot one mag full of ammo....13 rounds when he first bought it.! The gun is a HK USP 40! And even then he wasn't a good shot. My one uncle owns a Beretta 380 and after owning it since the early 90s he took it to the range for the second time 2 years ago. Instead of buying 380 he bought 38spl . My other uncle has two revolvers and he doesn't know which caliber they are. He thinks they arw 32. I have no idea I've never seen them.

^ NDPs (Non-dedicated personnel) will be NDPs, and are hard if not impossible to correct.

I try to be careful about switching carry guns. For about three years, I carried either a 6906 or a CS9. Same manual of arms, even the same sights. The only difference in usage was the lack of an ambidextrous safety on the smaller pistol, not a deal killer in my opinion.
The only reason I'm not carrying one of these guns every day is because of two (ungrateful) children. This makes me out to be a terrible mother, but I should have kept the Smiths and ditched the kids.

My oldest daughter hated me with a passion in HS. Fatherly biases aside, she is quite beautiful. As soon as she started HS, our phone began ringing off the hook.
About her junior year, she hooked up with a jerk and learned having a dad who scared the **** out of the boys wasn’t a bad thing.
Eventually, she met a guy who wasn’t afraid of me. They’ve now been happily married longer than her mother & I were (and that was mostly unhappy.)

I agree a gun can look boring and still be a death machine! Maybe get coated Brown to match your dog's eyes.
Question-How does the 230 short barrel Gold Dot compare with normal 45ACP? I use it 38+P and love it and have a 3.25 inch 1911, I currently use Hydra-shok 230's.
Thanks

My favorite line above is from barbara em! I believe I agree. Especially since I like her choices in 9mm pistols.
Smoke, you have to remember that most of the folks here DO enjoy their guns and DO get a thrill here and there but if you're just a mechanic about it, and a good shot at that, I get that, too.
The "beware the one gun man" axiom has some truth to it but if you practice with the guns you intend to carry it doesn't really matter. I am just as good with a snubby K frame as I am with a compact 9mm. I don't switch from gun to gun for no reason, however - I usually do it based on the clothing I am wearing and where I plan to be.
And Glocks are not permitted in my house. Neither are Apple products. But that's totally personal to me and my tastes, especially where guns that are not traditional double action, or double action only, are concerned. I might have an old striker fired mousegun or two but the rest of my guns are hammer powered, even if I can't see it or its bobbed.

If you're agonizing and pacing the floor over what EDC to carry, your problem extend far beyond what to carry.

Well, if by "normal" .45acp you mean the standard 230-grain FMJ, the Speer round is a bit slower and impacts with less foot-pounds. So it has been said.
Speaking for myself, I can't tell any difference regarding recoil and muzzle jump out of a 4- or 5-inch barrel...simply because a .45acp seems like just an ordinary round to me.
As far as accuracy goes, at what we refer to as normal self defense range, I'm competent with both. 1911s and polymer pistols...both with factory sights...aren't target pistols. They aren't meant to be, are they?
Being honest, though, I'm not much for comparing same-caliber rounds. It's like falling down the rabbit hole for me. I've never run comparison tests. I've never chronographed. Never run penetration tests, either. Used to handload (a lot), but don't have the patience for that now. Factory stuff is good enough for me. I'm more interested in technique and basic accuracy than in specs and loading data.
Speaking for myself again, if I can put a full magazine into the head or triangle area on a standard silhouette target at 20 yards, hand held and at my age, I'm a happy shooter, no matter what load and/or bullet weight I'm shooting.
Fact is, someone hit in a vital area with that big, fat .45 bullet is gonna stop what they're doing. That's what we want, isn't it? Won't make a damn whether the bullet's moving at 890fps or 830fps.
I probably haven't answered your question, have I? Sorry. I'm no expert, so here's my disclaimer: These are my opinions based on my personal experience.

I don't doubt some folks agonize over what gun and/or caliber to carry on a daily basis. Matter of fact, based on a whole lot of threads on this forum, I'm positive they do.
But knowing the OP as I do (based on some exchanges he and I have had), I'm gonna take a wild guess here and say he was exaggerating a bit to make a point...maybe being a bit facetious, too, who knows?
