Default Carry all the time.

I just saw this article: Tennessee church shooting suspect identified; 1 killed, 7 wounded | Fox News

If ever there was a place that should be safe, you would think it's a church. Alas, that is not the case. This is just the latest church shooting, it's happened before.

Carry whenever legal. This lady might not be dead had the usher had his gun with him rather than in the car.

Watch the news. Churches, movie theatres, restaurants, malls, any and all crowded public spaces are prime targets for terrorists and nut jobs. Yes, I carried my barbecue gun in a Galco shoulder holster when I walked my daughter down the aisle. The world we live in.

Throughout history, more violence has been committed over religious differences than probably anything else. I'm surprised there aren't more events at churches than there are.

I don't think that this has much, if anything, to do with religion.

Hitler et al went after religious enemies as well as cultural, ethnic and political enemies. This was a case of racist murder, but it will spun as something else.

Check your gun laws....Va law doesn't expressly forbid guns in churches but it does put extra restrictions on concealed carry there. I think with permission of church officials it is legal here.

I would be hesitant to criticize the young man for keeping his firearm in the car...may not have been legal to have inside. Not saying that banning them from ANY building makes sense these days...

We are fortunate to have several LEO's in our congregation. They are well aware of the world we live in and take it seriously. This can happen anywhere.....be ready...be safe.

It's not like someone is going to arrest you for carrying in church, anyway, so why worry what the legalities are?
I suppose if you're dead, you can always argue at the pearly gates that the church was a gun free zone and you didn't break the law.

I carried my 642 in a Mika pocket holster when walking mine down the aisle. Those tux pants are baggy enough you could probably carry a full size 1911.

Quite often it's where you least expect a nut job with a gun to show up is the worst place to be.
I always carry where it's legal. I carry when I walk my dogs even though I thought I didn't feel unsafe on my street. I just found out there is some nutjob that comes around and he supposedly carries a 9mm. I found out he is the reason I have seen the sheriff on my road so often lately. They are trying to catch him in the neighborhood.
So like I said where you least expect trouble is where trouble shows up.

I carried in the hospital when my daughters were born over 40 years ago and carried when I walked them down the isle. I was a cop at the time and in my jurisdiction so everything was legal, but I'd likely ignore a silly no guns rule today b/c even at 70 I want to get older and watch my grandkids grow up and get married.

Anywhere in my neck of the woods includes our homes, too.
Home invasions are becoming popular. Sad, isn't it?

The buzz word today is "soft targets", anywhere there is as assumption that one is safe and generally unprepared for a confrontation / conflict. Shopping malls, schools, sporting events, homes, crowded streets, you name it.... all choices of cowards wanting to disrupt society for any of a thousand reasons.

How many of you are carrying a pistol with a higher round count because of this sort of thing? My M649 is my go-to CCW gun and much of the summer it is all that I can carry. I wonder if I should carry more when I can. Thoughts?

I have my HR 218 qualification so I was good to go; however since the wedding was in Joisey I couldn't carry hollow points.

I'm not taking a stand on this either way but... I've carried concealed for almost 35 years and have never been called on it, ever. My concealed carried handgun is there for the gravest extreme and no one knows I have it until that moment. I'm talking deep concealed carry, learned in Jersey, where any gun is considered a threat until proven otherwise. Only cops carry. No NRA caps, fanny packs, you know the drill. Blend in.

Under LEOSA any federally legal ammunition, (non-automatic, non-suppressed), is permissible...even in NJ.

Whether you want to deal with the aggravation of taking a ride to the station while proving it is another matter.

I carry a copy of the LEOSA regs in my glove compartment and the number of an attorney from my LEOSA insurance in my credential case. I've already confirmed with the attorney the legality of hollow point ammo in NJ under LEOSA.

I'm guessing the NJ people would rather risk over penetration and rounds bouncing around rather than safer HP ammo. I wonder if any of their lawmakers ever really researched this issue.

I carry a 32 Magnum revolver so that puts me at 6 rounds.

That should be enough because here in California everyone, including bad guys, are limited to 10 round magazines.

I carry at Church EVERY week. Very tempting soft target for nuts and terrorists (assuming there is a difference).

I used to be on the security team but our Church's insurance carrier said that security team members couldn't carry because as "official representatives" of the church and therefore by carrying security team members expose the church to to liability.

So rather than leave my CCW at home, I quit the security team.
Now I just usher instead.

FYI:

LEOSA
Includes the carry of ammunition “not expressly prohibited by Federal law or subject to the provisions of the National Firearms Act.” Federally legal ammunition, such as hollow-point bullets, can be carried where state law would normally prohibit it (i.e. New Jersey).

Unfortunately, LEOSA doesn't address magazine capacity.

Default VA Church carry

Although I`m not looking up the regs at the present time Virginia`s CCP regulations say that a permittee may not carry in church unless "a good reason" exists. (My quote) I think that anyone who lives in today`s world and reads/hears/sees the news would think as much.

Lots of older ladies like to give hugs at my church. I keep my elbows in tight and scoop my fore arms forward. With their arms going around the outside of mine during the hug, there is no risk of alarming them with the government sized 1911 at 4:00 IWB.

Churches are only legal to carry upon permission. There may be more people carrying than what most people think in churches. The church I attend is just outside of a major city whereany other (religion)s are present, so the issue has come to mind often. This world is going sour, not much surprises me anymore. Be smart, be prepared!

I saw an article that said the usher thought he had his gun on him when he first confronted the shooter, but realized he had left it in his car. Despite that, he fought with the shooter hand-to-hand, and the shooter shot himself in the leg during the struggle. This is was reported by someone who said he spoke with the usher at the hospital.

Regardless, I have tremendous respect for the usher for intervening.

I am with your comments other than your first 8 words. Not a legal issuse or permission to carry in Church in Florida. States may very. Its not a Federal thing.

Been carrying here legally since 1976. Never have carried IN the courthouse. I do carry everywhere else. Calm down, I know some of the places are "no carry", I just don't care.
Never carry because of the "odds" of something happening...Always carry because of the "possibility" of something happening.
That's just me....we all seek our own salvation.

The news should report about churches that the bad guys took about a pound of lead from the parishioners. Maybe then the bad guys would think twice about targeting churches.

Me, too. Then they look at me and almost always ask, "Where do you hide it?"

Sometimes I tell them, sometimes I don't.

My carry preference is a 2" K frame. When my back hurts I can carry that in a pocket holster in cargo pants; otherwise, I have to carry a M642.

In a house of worship, UNLESS my back really hurts, I carry no less than a CS-9 and an additional magazine. Anyone who thinks a place of worship is a safe place and guns are not needed is living in lalaland.

In TX we can legally carry in church with the pastor's permission. About every six months our pastor announces from the pulpit, "If you're licensed to carry a gun, you're welcome to carry here. I do."

Carry everywhere.

My wife came into my office as I was packing my gun case for our trip to Arizona. She asked - "why are you taking that?"

I told her - "We're going to Arizona... not heaven"

CCW in Ohio churches requires permission, LEO's and LEOSA don't need to ask. At my church there are several licensed to carry but only 2 have permission. My best friend and I.

The shooting up of Churches got so bad in Kentucky in the 80's that all ordained ministers were issued CCW permits. My B-I-L was a little ahead of the law on this. His preferred concealed gun is still a SP101 in 357! He preaches the Gospel and carries for 40+ years now!

When my daughter and youngest son got married it was in NJ, so I wasn't carrying! My F-I-L and his wife are both LEOSA so they covered us. But when #2 son was married in Ohio, I carried my faithful 49 (no dash). When my F-I-L walked my bride down the isle, he had a nice shinny nickel pre 49 "Bodyguard" tucked in his cummerbund. There were 17 LEO's including the Chief there, we were very well protected! As you can see "Humpbacks" are a family tradition!

Ivan

I carry everywhere I go either on my person or in the SUVs. I do not carry in the house. Any room my wife or I am in, there is a gun within 2 to 3 feet. We are both retired LEOs. Also, it's a good way to justify buying more guns.

My wife and I were at our weekly ballroom dance class today. About half way through, the instructor is in front of the class telling us how to perform a new move, when one of his assistants walked up to him and whispered something in his ear. He stooped down and pulled his pant leg back down over the ankle holster he was wearing. I asked my wife if she saw that. She did, but didn't realize what she was seeing. I explained to her that his ankle holster had become exposed. Slightly embarrassed, he says - "Some of you may think I'm a cop and the others may think I'm planning to rob some place. I'd rather you believe the first one".

I was smiling inside because, as it turns out, I had just today been wondering if I should leave my edc at home because of all the contact in the class, and the instructor sometime has us dance with OTHER students in the class. I decided to stick to my principle of carrying everywhere I'm allowed, and it's comforting to know that I'm not the only one there who thinks that way.

If I have my pants on I have a pistol and extra magazine on my belt .. only place I don't carry is my doctors office which is posted ..

There have been several home invasions in the area in the past 2 years .. one where the elder gentleman in the home was killed ..

If posted in Illinois it is the law so I won't frequent any place that would inhibit my carrying .. those places have become much fewer as close to 17-18% of the people in the Tri-county area I live in have Conceal Carry Permits .. businesses realized quickly that keeping that amount of the population out of their business wasn't monetarily profitable to their stores .. and many took down the signs as they saw customers walk to their door see the sign and turn and walk away ..

Legal has a lot of different definitions depending upon the jurisdiction and the circumstances.

Some jurisdictions it is a felony to carry in certain places, that sets up a heavy cost-benefit-anaysis situation.

Other jurisdictions if the property is posted 'no guns' and you carry, and the owner/manager somehow "magically" devines that you are carring, you must leave immediatley or else be cited for trespass. No brainer, carry.

Some jurisdictions you can be cited for trespass without future warning, its an ordinance violation the same as a traffic ticket, its your call. I do, nobody will know unless I am forced to use it.

And then nobody will care because they will be alive while Charlie Manson, prison escapee, lies bleeding out on the carpet.

Or you miss and plug grandma and the prosecutor makes a big deal about your reckless disregard for the law at your manslaughter trial.
