The wife and I went to a movie yesterday, I had on my kilts and had my good old 49 in the equivalent of a cargo pocket. It just felt out of place. I had a 4" folding knife in the front right pocket, but a dirk would have been more appropriate! I have an IWB holster for pants, but this kilt won't stay up with the leather holster. Anyone have a reasonable solution?

My worst incident of self defense was at this same theater (I almost had to draw and shoot a young punk in the men's room once) so I won't go there without a firearm!

Ditch the kilt and wear pants.



Don't take my recommendation too personally. If a guy wants to wear a skirt for whatever reason that's his business. I'm only suggesting that if going to the movies means wearing pants for a couple of hours makes more sense then maybe that's the solution.

Buy a sporran.

I was going to suggest the pouch mentioned above, though I didn't know what it was called.

You might also want to look into getting a belly band or Kangaroo holster. Depending on what you're wearing a shoulder holster may be another option.

A thigh holster (not the tactical kind, the kind women use under a dress) might be an option.

The only chick that matters to me, really digs my kilts! The Sporran hangs as low as the cargo pocket, so it has the same problems drawing. The Sporran frees up my very limited pocket space, so I'll probably be using one soon.

Nobody, has ever had the bad manners to say I or my friends were wearing a skirt in person. I dought they have the durability to say it twice!

Personally I've never had the nerve to wear a kilt even though I'm of Scottish descent. I do know a couple of professional pipers that wear them when they do funerals and to my knowledge no one has ever made any rude remarks to them.

I am a member of Clan Campbell.And I have a kilt but I can not figure out a good way to carry a gun so I never wear it.By the way they are called kilts because that's what happens to people who make fun of them.

FWIW, bigwheelzip, I just had to go to Amazon and order a 55 gallon drum of eyebleach.

Regarding the theater...Just my opinion, but unless there was a trend of violent encounters at that theater/neighborhood, I wouldn't worry too much about it. If it was an isolated incident, I wouldn't necessarily let that keep me from going to that theater. If I did that with every place I visit, I'd never go to the bank, grocery store, gas station, etc. Just keep your wits about you, be as prepared as you can be, and try to choose wisely when picking the days and times you go there.

But if this was one incident in a series of them, or that theater/neighborhood has a reputation for being in a rough part of town, then yeah, I'd agree it would be more prudent to pick another venue if possible.

Kilt, I don't think anyone would want to see me in one! Just sayin

I've worn an ankle holster with trousers/dress pants....

I'd be just as comfortable with a good thigh holster with a kilts.

In the few years since my bad encounter at that theater, the crowd hanging around has cleaned up quite a bit. Maybe that was a "Come to Jesus" moment for him and his friends! No I didn't have a kilt on that day.

The thigh holsters seem to be a good idea, but I really don't look good in lace with all the hair poking through!

I love the pics of service men in kilts. My second son wears USMC tartans when dresses up and digital camo for utility.

I thought about open carry. Besides being out of character with the kilts, I don't have any holsters for a 2 1/2 inch belt!

Brave Response Holster (or some other type of belly band) might look promising to wear under your shirt. I've never seen one but did some checking for an internet-deficient friend of mine. Somewhere I saw a picture of this holster worn with the strap at armpit level (I think that would be uncomfortable).

Great heavens man you are wearn' a Kilt!! What difference does it make if a little leg hair is poking through the lace of a black thigh holster. You might think of ditching the pink bow but pass that get a grip! Besides if you get a in stinky storm the responding harness bulls are going to be entirely to broken up to care about whether you were right or wrong. There will be photo ops of you with the Kilt raised up (kinda like bigwheel zip) standing with the detectives, shift supervisors and EMT's. The digtial pics will be shown in training classes for decades. It's all good. hardcase60

PS. Having applied a little reading comprehension to your post which reads "but I really don't look good in lace" might leave some to believe you know this from experience. Not me, I think it's only something you don't think would look good.

Ivan while I happen to know the difference between a Kilt and a Skirt you need to be aware that due to the horrible public education system in this country for the last 40 years that 99% of those under 40 will perceive you as being someone wearing a Skirt. As a result they will view you as a "cross dresser" and that may lead to a confrontation. What I am saying is that you should consider the education level of the general public today when you decide to wear your Kilt and choose locations where the odds are good that the people there will actually know what a Kilt is.

BTW, my Grandfather, Father, and older Brother were all named Robert Bruce so I am very well aware what a Kilt is and the Dignity and Bravery demonstrated by those who once considered Kilts as what men wore and pants as something that only those terrible Englishmen wore.

I have never seen a child confuse a man in a kilt with anything in a skirt, Maybe their mothers train them better that their schools!

The belly band would be great under a sweater/sweatshirt, but in warm weather it is too warm for me! Aside from my ample waist, it is amazing how much you can hide under a sweater. To prove a point, I once had 2 Sig 220's in a belly band and 2 1911's (IWB and Small of the Back) plus a spare mag each under a pull very loose over wool sweater!

Uhhh. Kilt? There's no way I'm going to dress like a Catholic schoolgirl.
Kidding, of course. However, I'm not even comfortable in shorts, much less a kilt.
I don't wear sandals, either. l prefer protection for my feet, legs, arms, and hands.
You will also never see me riding with a half-helmet, tank top/t-shirt, shorts, sneakers, etc.
I got enough road rash as a kid, that I like abrasion protection for my hide.

How about a jacket that matches your kilt, and a shoulder holster?
Easier access than a belly band or ladies thigh holster.

Although, a Claymore would be sweet. One hit stop.
Bad guys can't do much to you when their heads are rolling on the floor.

I think I can but a pretty good Model of 1926 for what a poor Real Claymore costs! But I really like the idea! (The .455 Webley is a nice idea also.)

On of my friends is so sad, he inherited all his father's Family Tartans, Kilts, jackets, and tams, but outweighs his dad by over 80 pounds! (and he doesn't even like single malt!)
