The only .357 Mag I carry is a 1955 4 5/8" Ruger SA . All I ever carry in or for it are .357 Magnum rounds .358429 Keith 173 grain solid with 14.5 grains of Hercules 2400 , yup , I still got a Keg . 358439 Keith 160 grain HP with 15 grains . Old gun shoots like a rifle with either one .

Occasionally I carry a 340PD as a BUG loaded with Hornady 158 Gr XTP. No reload when carried as a BUG as the 340 IS the reload. When the 340 is carried as primary a six shot speed strip goes in the pocket. And NO, it's not a fun gun to shoot, even with standard pressure 38 Special. The dry weight is 11.8 ounces. DAY UM, THAT HURT!!!

13-3 3” with 135gr. Sb 357 Gold Dots, which are really mild magnums. Same in speed strips.
60 no dash with Train & Defends, same in speed strips. Rarely carry speed loaders for cc.

I said same brand and type of cartridge. If I carry a
revolver and the local cops carry semi-autos, I can
still carry the same brand and type of cartridge.

My 340PD is loaded w/ .38+P b/c the recoil from magnum rounds is too severe for accurate follow up shots, if they should become necessary.

I agree with that as I have just over the last several months come to that conclusion and am now in the process of getting out and away from my .357 snubby. But I'm not doing any .38 it's why I went magnum to begin with.

If I stay on a snubby I'm going LCR 9mm. And believe it or not I lose hardly no KO power
from my LCR if I go to the 9mm and the enerney loss could be consider even negligible.

9mm

Weight in grains 124
Speed in fps 1100
Caliber in inches 0.355
Energy 334
Momentum 19
Taylor KO 6

.357 magnum

Weight in grains 125
Speed in fps 1225
Caliber in inches 0.357
Energy 416
Momentum 21
Taylor KO 7

I really do enjoy shooting my little hand cannon because when I'm done it brings a smile to my face because I can do it, I did it.
And we are talking 150 + rounds a range session.

But the truth is, you have only one shot to get it right because after that it's shake, rattle and roll.

Default Primary Carry is 686-6 4"

When I carry reloads they are .357.

When I carry My 642 J-frame .38 I don't have reloads. About half the time I don't have reloads for the .357 either.

My philosophy is if the threat is more than one person I have the wrong weapons.

When I carry my S&W model 60 .357 caliber, it is loaded with .357 magnums. All 5 shots.
Why?
Cause I can.

If I carry my 686 it has .357 magnum in the cylinder and 2 speed loaders. I normally carry my M&P 9C because it’s easier to send 10 rounds down range than reload and send 12 if that makes sense. If your unlucky enough to try me at the campground your going to get 5 rounds of .500 mag first. If there’s anything left then I flip a coin.
