While your effort to be encouraging is commendable, many years of data and studies of the body’s response to the stress of an actual gunfight tell us the opposite: it’s not at all conducive to accurate shooting, and even practiced shooters suddenly manage to miss a man-sized target at 6 or 8 feet. It’s good to be aware of one’s potential limitations.

DON'T PLAY FAIR, or to be more precice don't PLAY.
The vast majority of us on this forum are private citizens, we carry to protect ourselves and our loved ones. Sure, most will help out other innocents in need, but we aren't the Police, Marines, or Seal Team 6.
We need to get our people behind us and to safety, and we engage a threat only if required to do so. Take cover and then whatever shot is presented. Between shoulder blades, back of head, ankle while you are laying on ground (followed by head once the threat falls).

As my hand arthritis progressed I went from 45 to 9 to 380. My edc is a RM380. It is my partner now after nine months. I am confident that I can reliably take out an opponent at 15 yards with it. So why would I change. The more I use the gun the better I become with it. Isn’t that what we want?
At the risk of offending some folks which is not my intention EDC guns are not toys. It is OK to have many guns like children have many toys. Guns are fun. Self defense is not fun. It is matter or life and death. For me the way to deal with that fact is to be achieve maximum efficiency with the the gun I will use if I have to defend myself. My EDC gun is part of me and I am part of it.

I couldn't agree more. I've carried the same gun in the same rig for a long time. That's why they call it every day carry.

I don't even understand the question.
I change my EDC when I wear certain clothes. This one or that one fits the pants better, etc. If I am traveling where my gun is legal then my EDC depends on whether I am driving or a passenger or whether I fly to a legal location with a checked firearm.
The only "event" that matters is when I am attending a place like a house of worship that is packed with targets of opportunity for Tangos and idiots. Then I switch to a higher capacity handgun.
EDC doesn't mean the same gun every day for me - I carry every day and as a rule there are only three or four guns that I carry but convenience and comfort are the decision makers for me - or if I just get tired of one and want another for awhile.

-All my pants fit the same gun.
-Gun is the same regardless of where I sit in a car
-Since I'm never alone I never know what will be packed with targets of opportunity

Arik, I'm short and chubby (to be kind to myself), so........

Mine do not. Jeans do not fit me the same as dress pants, dress pants do not fit me the same as cargo pants. Etc.

On a long trip it is likely that I would consider where I am seated and if I do any driving. Driving around town, no, then it does not matter.

I don't know what that means, Arik. Anyway, I am alone plenty of the time - nobody lives with me, I drive alone, etc. At work I am not alone but that is not the same as being in a shopping mall, a church, or some other "event". At work it is single stack, compact 9mm or a snubbie wheelgun. Usually belt carried; sometimes pocket carried (and besides not being concerned with printing, a holstered snub K frame easily fits into the pocket of my BDU-type cargo pants). At a planned crowded event it is a compact but double stacked 9mm.
I practice with all of them.

I mean that wherever I go there are people. I'm never the only person outside of my house. Yesterday while at work I was around a few other people. Today was basically the same but then all of a sudden I found myself at Best Buy amongst hundreds of shoppers. I was not planning to go there when I woke up but as it happens I had to

Realistically, the reason I may change carry guns guns is simply because I have the handguns available and want to "spread the love."
There are a few that receive a lot of carry use, but there is no EDC here.

DEFINE EVENT.
The kind you read sadly about in the papers, OR the C-mas party types? I agree with you Tom, & nobody ever accused me of playing fair, or well with others for that matter. In a "perfect world" I'd CC a bigger gun. Last time I checked, it aint perfect. My 3 gun CC battery is the Seecamp > 640 > Sig 239 40 cal in order of size/concealability.

Yes. Some calibers (.357, .45, 9mm) aren’t allowed where I work part of the time. Have to have .38spl or .380

It’s a whole lot harder to grab a 2” revolver. An auto (and the bigger, the easier it is), can be pushed out of battery without ever getting a grip on the gun. If it’s grabbed and you break free, it still may not return completely to battery.
I like the two J-frame idea

Not really. My 642 is about the same size as my G19. Also 2 extra inches (4 total) doesn't change where the cylinder is. Neither does it change the distance from person to person.

Same gun, same position, same holster, for me. I have posted this before and always wondered for those that rotate with different guns, different holsters, different position, when the S.H.T.F. do they have to say to themselves , holy **** its happening, now which gun do I have, where is it, is this the gun with a safety or without, holy **** he shot me!

It is always amazing to me that when someone wishes to challenge somebody else's assertion of a "deficiency" of some sort, whether it be semi or revolver, they choose a worse case scenario of a possible failure or challenge, etc. It is my position that one should become very familiar, as familiar as possible, with a particular manual of arms, especially if one wishes to change carry guns depending on situation or weather, etc.
I for one will rotate my carry gun based upon weather conditions and even social situations. All of my carry guns are M&Ps of one form or another, without safety. The operation is the same irrespective of the firearm I choose. Even changing gun size and caliber of different makes is O.K. (my opinion) if they use the same manual of arms and controls are in the same place AND one is familiar with how said gun shoots.

I rotate through a few guns depending upon season of the year, what I'm wearing, and where I'm going. It gets hot here.
Duty gun, H&K P2000 in .40 to, from, and at work, with occasional off duty carry.
S&W 66-5 2 1/2" most common off duty, followed by Glock 27. I know, the G27 just works IWB for me.
On occasion, I just slip one of the house guns, a S&W 64-6 factory DAO with bobbed hammer, in a jacket pocket for quick trips to the convenience store.

Rifle in the truck now. As often as is possible. Still carry the same as always, but now a rifle comes along much more often. When fighting with a handgun, figure out what you did with your rifle.

Same grips, same leather, same location, but...
Bears awake: 640 Pro
Bears asleep: 940
Either time, pocket: M&P 340

Rarely. Primary off duty sidearm is my Glock 32, 357 Sig. I am also qualified to carry department issued S&W 686. Recently qualified with S&W 5903 as an additional option.
Rotation is fine, but when the rubber hits the road or the SHTF one really needs to be almost automatic with the response. Having a primary sidearm the vast majority of the time is the best way to accomplish that goal, in my opinion. Others may disagree and that’s OK.
I hope you find this helpful.

I've been carrying for over 8 years now. I haven't changed my EDC because of events. I change due to my personal variables.
I try to maintain my fitness level, to improve my reaction time and endurance. That will never change.
I doubt if I will ever have an "automatic" response. I don't practice enough and have only performed shoot and scoot training once...and they closed the only range in my area where that was possible.

Thanks for the replies. I lost track of this thread until it was brought back.
By events, I'm referring to national and local events that are becoming more prevelant and violent lately.
Also, on out of town trips for a few days I've been tossing a carbine or shotgun in the trunk.
I didn't used to do that. I was ok with a handgun and extra ammo.
Maybe it's not necessary but I feel better when I listen to that inner voice.
So, this isn't about clothes or rotations, but more towards extra firepower.

When Sudden Onset Jihad Syndrome started to become a thing on this side of the Atlantic, I switched from a 2" Model 36 to a 3 1/2" M1911.
Now that I'm on the graveyard shift, I went back to the 36, since I barely see ANYBODY on the way to or from work.

Plus one for same firearm, same method, every time. Never understood the rationale for “rotation”. It’s all about training, muscle memory and practice. My apologies to anyone who may be offended by this, but you just can’t get that with rotation, unless you have way more time and money than most. The occasional trip to the range as one or the other comes up in the “rotation” isn’t sufficient. You should be shooting your carry gun on every trip to the range. The best firearm for any application (bullseye, self defense, tactical competition or whatever) is the one you handle and shoot the most. All the best, regardless of your preference.

A little divergence, but..
.... ever since the Charlie Hebdo shooting in Paris, I keep a cased AR and four 30- round mags in the trunk of the car. It doesn't take up much space, flat up against the back of the s seat and the color of the case is indistinguishable from the inside of the trunk. If I ever need it, it's there.

I guess it's good to have choices!

Are the in-laws that dangerous? I don't like mine but I mean I don't worry too much about a gun fight when I visit.
