Default 627 PC long term carrying concealed

Just my experience. I conceal carry my S&W 627 8 shot 357 mag 2.6 inch every day. Have for the last 4 months. Use a Simply Rugged Sourdough pancake OWB holster and a heavy duty rigger belt with a shirt that’s one size larger. I’m retired so dress how I want. Heavy? Yes but honestly you get used to it and it weighs no more than a full size 1911. Why? It shoots so well and I’ve never had a FTF! Yes I’ve experienced that with my Glocks and seen it too many times at training classes. Not my revolver. As for barrel length, at self defense distances the short one is more than adequate. I can shoot it at 25 yards but realistically in my environment can never see that happening. Carry an 8 round speed strip and use Hornady Critical Defense 357. Most I’ve typed in a long time.

I carried N-frames concealed for years, usually a 4" M28 but sometimes a M25-5(.45Colt)or a M629.The weight was never much of an issue.Concealment in warm weather was another matter.Thankfully I never had to wear dress clothes in the summer and was able to conceal with a loose-fitting shirt.

I carry a 4" M29 most days. I love it.

I use a Sourdough Pancake, but can't get it to stop squeaking, which is making me crazy. I also have a cheapo Uncle Mikes IWB that has been seeing use lately.

I love mine! I don’t carry it every day, but I carry it regularly. I use a Galco Miami Classic and Combat Master.

I think I've tried 4 different treatments now - baby powder, silicone lube, ren wax, and clear shoe polish.

It still squeaks.

I'll look into the Fleming, thanks!

Sorry, for my tardy response, I don’t want you think I was snubbing you.

The grips are Ahrends bananas with added S&W medallions. I think the wood is goncalo alves. I also have a set in cocobolo just like it. I also have a set of Ahrends tacticals in moridillo.

Just ordered a 627 PC. Can't wait to get it. It's my first and probably only revolver. I don't plan to put it in my carry rotation, it was just one of those "want to have" purchases. I felt incomplete not at least owning one revolver.

Ya might want to grease your belt as well,
I use SnowSeal on my carry rigs to stop the dry squeaks.

Su Amigo,
Dave

**As far as barrel length goes, what made a believer outta me....

Was shooting some 'hard set' full size steel pepper-poppers.

My short barreled sidearms didn't fair too awful well.

The 3 1/2" 44s and 45s did ok....But, the 4-5 inchers preformed much better in the knock downs.

Nice guns. And welcome to the campfire. I much prefer carrying revolvers my own self, although I lean towards snubbie K frames. If you can conceal that N frame all day more power to you. I do think an 8 shot revolver is more than adequate for virtually ever close encounter of the bad kind that any of us might ever run into. I do not feel unprepared with 6 so 8 is for sure plenty of firepower.

Nice! I want one. Did you get the 2.6" or 5"? A couple of years ago before I really got back into revolvers, my LGS had a "like new" 5" for a while at a pretty good price, and at the time I wasn't tempted, but now I think it would be hard to walk away from.

2.6", I really just liked the look of the shorter barrel better personally, I know I give up some velocity, just wasn't interested in an N frame AND a long barrel. I really have no purpose for this firearm other than just wanted to finally own a revolver and have something a little different to bring to the range now and again. I have shot a few rentals before at the range from time to time just for fun, mainly to try potent rounds, like .454, .460, and .500. I thought my first revolver would be a Ruger Super Redhawk Alaskan in .454 but this 627 PC really caught my eye and liked the idea of an 8rd .357 for the range. Decent capacity, still good power out of the round and not horribly expensive. I got it for what I think was a good deal too, and a few bucks cheaper than the last few Alaskans I was price checking.

Very nice! That 2.6" 627 PC is one of the two or three guns on the short list for my next purchase. After I got it to the range, I'd load it up with some spicy 357s and drop it in a holster for CCW duty.

However, I often say things like that and then find some deal on a vintage gun I can't pass up...
