I have the magguts 2 round extension in one of my 9mm shield mags. I like it. Doesn't add a lot to the length of the grip and it has functioned perfectly after about 200 rounds through it

I have the +2 in the 8 round mag and +1 in the 7 round mag. Haven't had a malfunction yet (or ever with the Shield period) in about 500 rounds. I like them.

not sure why 7 rounder and not the 8. i didn't think the kit i used would work on the longer mag...10 rounds on board is nice though....if the magguts extension was added to the 8 round mag it would make it way too long for me but i'm not sure thats possible

I have both versions of the MagGuts (2-Piece original Kit when it 1st came out, as well as the newer Z-Spring version). They both work fine in my 7-Round mags. My 8-Round mag hasn't been out of the box since my 2nd or 3rd trip to the range (back in May of 2012).

can you not add the maggust +1 to the 8 rounder and not increase length....don't you use the original floor plate with the +1 z spring?

Thanks again.

Thanks again.[/ i have the 8 round mag with an extension for one round in it from magguts. it is 4.25 inches top to bottom and uses original floor plate if i recall...the 7 round s/w shield mag with +2 extension uses different floor plate and is 4 and 1/8 inches long...so you get 9 round either way and a slightly shorter mag with the 7 rounder. both work fine but the 7 rounder is less bulky base for sure. i would take a picture but a tech wizard i'm not! i would recommend the 2 round magguts as i think it is more "carryable" on the shorter mag

No experience with +2, but I have had the +1 Z spring and follower installed in both 7 + 8 round magazines for more than 1500 rounds combined without any issue whatsoever.

I have two 9mm Shields. I have the Maguts +1 on each 7-round mag and carry that in the gun. 100% reliable through hundreds of rounds each.

Both of my 8-round mags have the +2 extension giving me 10 rounds in my backup mags. I use these 10-rounders at the range more often so I load a little less frequently. I have many 100’s of rounds through each with no problems.

So I carry 19 rounds total, 9 in the gun and the 10 round backup mag. For only one reload that’s a fair amount of ammo for a very concealable gun.

Maguts: expensive, but worth it IMO.

Nope, I won't use 'em.

If the manufacturer's engineers who designed the firearm wanted you to have +1 or +2, they would have designed it that way.

I have seen one too many mag failures with people using "adapted" magazines. If you want more capacity, move up to a properly sized pistol.

Default Shield 9 Magguts..Yes they work fine

For what it's worth to anyone who gives a dang.......

Installed the magguts +2 zeespring on the Shield 9 7 rounder and 2 8 rounder mags...

Just got back from the range and fired 40 rounds through both
8 round mags holding 10 rounds and shot 45 rounds through the 7 rounder holding 9 rounds.

Shot both blazer brass and Federal HST in all mags.
125 total rounds...everything works perfect..
No failure's of any type and empty mag slide lock worked perfectly also.....

Yes the mags were a Bee-ach to load first time up....but after first loading and unloading the remaining loading goes fine....

For what it's worth guys, if you are considering.................

I've also seen mag failures with people using "factory" magazines, so that excuse doesn't really fly.
But you're very welcome to your opinion and nobody will force you to use them.

I just buy the gun that holds the number of shots that I want.

Concealment isn't hard if you actually try.

I understand ..... completely....
I like to stay with a proven platform (Shield)...5 years of Shields with absolutely not one problem or failure (9mm and 45).

I can and do trust my life on the Shield. Single stack, conceals well, not to heavy, and shoots great........

So If I can have all that plus 10 rounds...great for me right?

To each his own for what they need and are comfortable with..not a problem...

I only have to satisfy me....no one else.....I have done that..

As I've mentioned in other MagGuts threads, If round capacity is that important and trumps size (width), why even look at Single-Stack subcompacts?

My main (only) reason for getting the Shield was for Front Pocket carry (yup... I can easily Front Pocket carry a PF-9, LC9, Shield, etc in 'Relaxed Fit' jeans/pants).

I've had the MagGuts conversions on all my mags since March of 2015, without any malfunctions.

If Belt carrying (IWB or OWB), I go with either my XDMc or G19, for the extra rounds (I never liked how the M&Pc feels to shoot).

If there were 'One Perfect Handgun' that worked for everyone, all the other Manufacturers would go out of business (or, like Ruger did with their LC9-S, copy the competition).
So... 'Different Strokes', Whatever 'Gets you through the Night'/'Floats yer Boat', etc.

Yes... The original LC9 was loosely copied after the P-11 and PF-9 (a kind of Mash-up). Several years after the Shield proved itself of being reliable, Ruger added the LC9-S to the LC9 line (then the NTS LC9-S Pro). Of course, ask Non-Ruger owners what 'LCP' stands for and they will say 'Little Copy Pistol'... a copy of the P3AT.

Which is why I didn't. If I was concerned about round count, I'd just suck it up and deal with the extra .23", because it's not a big deal. Neither is a couple rounds, although I rather like the extra width in the grip.

And yes, yours may run fine. But even if it does--I'm biased to just not believe anybody when they say that--it doesn't tell me anything. If a particular bit of kit was a smoldering dumpster fire, with 3 in 4 failing outright, 25% of the people that bought one would be happily chiming in about their very positive experience.

But...every time you change something, you put yourself in a smaller and smaller subset. Lots of people have gone to roll-the-dirt violence nerd classes with Shields. Fewer have brought Shields with Magguts extensions. People that abuse the hell out of their gear are great for the rest of us. Those are the folks that spent money and time so we know the Serpa holster is a ball of suck.

So if I'm going to bother to start modifying a carry pistol, it's got to be for a reason that justifies the invasiveness of the change. I think a flared baseplate would be worthwhile on the Shield. Even the +1 baseplates look miserable to grip-and-rip, and it's not like the aftermarket baseplate changes much. New internals? Meh, I'd be more cautious about.

And that's the part where I say to you--why mess with a good thing?

7+1 is plenty. Quite a lot actually. Nothing special happens at 9+1. It's a little light for my tastes, but the Shield is also a bit thinner than what I carry. I'd probably want the .45 at 7 rounds, but it's not like 9mm isn't enough. More like, "the single-stack .45 ACP isn't that much effort, so why not?".

The manufacturers designed the firearm to specified specs, which includes price and potential sales. I am certain they considered "for the average" shooter in those specs. That does not mean that they couldn't design the firearm to hold +1 or +2. It probably meant they would have to increase the cost and potentially have a negative effect on sales.

With that said, I believe that there are improvements that can be made to the design of just about anything made. The fact that a third party decides to improve the design doesn't necessarily make it bad or risky. I am sure there are people that push the mods beyond the margin of safety, but I do not believe this is the case with the magguts.

Like others have said before me...we should go with what we feel comfortable and/or are willing to accept (or not). Just saying...
