In the "Burbs of the Burgh"..... single stack 3913NL 8+1 and a spare 8rd mag ( two more mags in the center console).....90-95% of the time
Further from home will find me substituting a PC Shorty-9 12+1 plus a 15rd spare mag ....... or a Beretta Compact 13+1 plus a 17round spare mag.
At the Cabin/Out and about in "Penn's Woods"..... generally a 3".357 magnum revolver a 60-10 or 66-4.

Chiefs Special
Since retiring from a 37 year career in LE, I carry my 5-shot J frame 98% of the time. The Glock 17 the other two percent.

I have zero concern about printing as long as I am wearing enough shirt to cover appropriately.
compared to my Shield ,she's a tank , but the best tool in the box. Blue collared gun, shows up to work everyday w a lunch pail.

I carry a real Colt Cobra, not the new boat anchor one. Just seems to be more comfortable. I feel comfort to be important since there's a bigger chance for making an excuse for leaving it behind if somethings rubbing my 6' 3" 300lb. body. The Cobra fits just right in between waist and belly. I stoke it with six 135 gr. Speer short barrel 38+Ps.

I love wheelguns, but for carry, the single stack service size auto has all the traits I keep coming back to. It's usually a 1911 variant, or my S&W 539.
These guns are super slim, full caliber, 9 rounds on tap and a quick reload. All double stack polymer, although they are thinner than they used to be, they aren't quite as flat as the 1911 or the S&W 2nd Gen. single stack 9.
For home defense, I'm grabbing a 4" .357 magnum loaded with the full power 125 gr. SJHP (Winchester) magnum.

Only high capacity major caliber for me from now on. This mornings national news: "Oklahoma woman killed by pack of 7 small dogs".
15+1 Underwood 10mm and spare 15 magazine on my weak side for a total of 31. I am not interested in sub performance rounds that are designed for the comfort of the shooter, nor smaller platforms that are designed for the comfort of the carrier foremost in mind. Unquestionable terminal effect, combined with optimal pressure load efficiency in a modern cartridge, and sufficient magazine capacity are needed to deal with the real world. I am saving my small comfy pistols for the next time I am out and about in my cute little happy fantasy world.

If you're referencing me I carry what I'm comfortable carrying, NOT WHAT YOU RECOMMEND.
Think about it next time you're trying to dig that spent shell out of your magnificent, underfeeding cannon at the range.
You may return to your cute little happy fantasy world.

I do not know the caliber. The officers shot a total of 26 rounds. Not all of them struck the individual. The video narrative said they hit him 18 times.
Obviously no one of these was a central nervous system, fight ending shot. The volume of holes, misplaced as they may have been, pretty much guaranteed his bleed out/demise.
A poorly placed .45 slug, or 18 of them, are not likely to cause a significantly greater amount of damage than 9mm slugs. Actual forensic evidence does not support the superiority of any modern defensive loading or caliber over another. There is just too little difference. Penetration and destroying part of the central nervous system are fight stoppers. Loads that meet at a minimum the FBI standards, including 9mm, are roughly equally effective.
The point of my post was simply that even 18 hits in a real gun battle did not immediately end the fight. Five or six rounds from a revolver (or 9 hits from two revolvers) would have even less effect, or even 7 or 8 rounds from a single stack, especially if it was a caliber that does not meet FBI standards.
Those who feel confident that they will prevail in a real gunfight with six rounds vs. more are welcome to their opinion. Some may, especially if they are lucky. Others may not, because they actually did not have the skill (or luck) to hit the central nervous system and incapacitate the attacker before the attacker could kill the defender. The main point is, no pistol round, including .45 ACP, is really powerful. Most pistol wounds are survivable and have much less effect than we desire on motivated attackers.
Just saw another video from Pasadena, TX. Basically, suicide by cop. Stopped motorist gets out of his car, points his gun at deputy who was already pointed in. Cop drills the guy six times, apparently all hits, at about 25 feet. The guy staggers away from his car, does a death spiral in the middle of the road trying to point his gun at the deputy, actually is able to fire a round about 10 seconds after being shot, and the deputy nails him again with multiple shots. Slowly he stumbles, drops his gun, falls, and keeps moving on the ground for another 10 seconds. He was a potential threat after being hit multiple times for about 30 seconds. To use your caps: PEOPLE DONT DIE WHEN SHOT WITH PISTOLS AS FAST AS WE WANT. If they are not dead and still have a weapon, they are still a threat.
I carry a Full Size M&P 9mm AIWB, 17+1, and a spare 23 round extended mag. I don’t find it any more inconvenient to carry than a smaller gun. I don’t believe in spray and pray, but I also don’t believe six is enough in some really tough situations, especially with multiple attacker’s. That’s my choice and opinion.
However, I notice that those who go into harm’s way professionally do not carry six shot revolvers or .380 auto 8 shot pocket pistols as their primary means of defending their lives. Yes, they used to, and when their gun was empty after three seconds, better equipped bad guys (even if wounded) would come up and shoot them dead. That’s not the way I want to go.

Well, (playing Devil's advocate here) these two incidents illustrate that NO AMOUNT of ammo is going to be enough - unless you get a CNS hit.
In both these cases the BG took hits from more than a full high-cap magazine worth of rounds and was still capable of doing harm.
So in the final analysis, how is having the high cap that much of an advantage over having just 5 or 6 rounds? If you empty the 12 or 16 rounds in the mag into the attacker and he still keeps coming, he can still do lethal damage before he drops - just the same as if he had taken six magnum slugs.

I drive a car and carry several Kahrs but not all at the same time. This one the CW45 is wonderfully accurate and functions well. Used to be a wheelgun guy but I simply shoot a Kahr better. Better sights, quicker reload and 9mm that outperforms 38Spl. But CW45 weighs 22 ozs and carries 7 45 ACPs. Also carry a CW9 and a CM9 Kahr. Night sights on the Kahrs also, a 10 minute job.
