Across state lines.

I am leaving SE Texas tomorrow morning, crossing Oklahoma and will end up NW of Denver, Co. for a few days R&R. I have no LTC in Texas and do not plan to CC in Colorado but I do want to have personal protection in the vehicle and rooms along the way. Is there anyone in OK and CO that can clue me in as to the laws & atmosphere in those two states?

log on to handgunlaw.us and download each of the states you are asking about....then print out each of those states, highlight the differences and carry that with you when you make your trip.

Read each states laws carefully so that you know and understand the differences if any....

I have a file folder in my car of all states that I could possibly be in. I live in Montana so all neighboring states are in that folder as well as most states west of the Mississippi with the differences so that I "KNOW" what each state requires....not just think I know....

The above is generally good advice.

However, internet sites like these are not the original sources of current laws. Laws can change or be put in force according to different time schedules in the different states. A site that compiles information from all the states may be inaccurate for some period of time. Handgunlaw.us will not back you up in court if their information is inaccurate or misunderstood.

Since you are only dealing with a couple of states, I recommend going directly to those state’s websites and getting the current information directly from the state.

In general, you can travel through most states with guns without a permit if they are unloaded, cased, and locked in the trunk or an inaccessible part of the vehicle.

Possessing them in a state once you arrive opens up a whole new set of obligations, and particularly in Colorado. Knowing about reciprocity and concealed carry is not enough. Mag capacity limitations and other laws may come into play.

Don’t ask non-officials for official information. Go to the source.

I'm not saying there are never any "delays", but a man named Gary Slider (I believe) operates and maintains the website "handgunlaw.us". This website is the single most accurate and up to date site that I have ever found. And that includes individual state websites maintained by their Attorney General's offices. I do agree, however, that it never hurts to double check as many sites as possible to verify current law in any given state.

Obviously, it is too late for this trip, but my suggestion to the OP is to obtain that Texas license to carry. It would be good in every single state you might happen to go through on this trip, and a significant number of additional states you might see in the future.

I carried a handgun in my vehicle here in Okie-land for decades, even prior to legal CC laws being in effect. I'm not advocating any behavior for anyone else, but there you have it.

I never had any problem. Granted, I rarely get pulled over. However, on one occasion many years ago, I had to get in the glove box to access some paperwork asked for by the Okie Trooper that did pull me over. I told him straight up that there was a handgun in the glove box. He told me to move carefully, and put it on the passenger floorboard.
I did, he finished his business, and we parted ways. I did not get a ticket. Nothing else was ever said about the gun.

My opinion - I'm not going to travel defenseless. That's it.

Oklahoma is a fairly gun-friendly place. Don't drive like an idiot, don't act foolish in public, you will be pretty much left alone.

The above mentioned website is what I usually refer to in these matters. Sounds like a couple day trip. Lots of constrution on I-45 and around Fort Worth and Amarillo. Of course when you hit those roads in the OK panhandle you'll wish you were back in Texas.

Obey the traffic laws and you wont get pulled over - but if you do, do not consent to a vehicle search. If your vehicle does get searched, you are already in trouble...

A good point. Also the route you're going isn't a huge drug corridor so you shouldn't have any problems being stopped until you go over 80 MPH in TX. If you drive that slow on I-25 in CO you might get run over.
They can run a drug dog around your car without your consent but it shouldn't be a problem.
