OK, here's my thoughts on them...

I have a set of Tru-Glo TFO sights on my M&P 45. I like them a lot. Over many thousands of rounds they have proven reliable and easy to use.

On the sights you're looking at there is a feature I like and don't like. The rear sight has a kind of hook at the front edge. This is made like this so the slide can be racked with one hand by hooking the sight on a belt, table, shoe or whatever. Unlikely to be needed, but nice to have should it be necessary. That's the good part.

The bad part is it's too hooked. The forward rake of the rear sight makes it easy to snag on things. That could be bad when trying to get the gun out in a hurry or when moving through a situation.

Take a look at this sight:

This is a rear sight made by 10-8: S&W M&P Shield Rear Sight - 10-8 Performance Store
Notice how it has a similar design, but the "ledge" is straight up and down. It even has a tiny bevel at the top. This design makes it easy to rack one handed, but less likely to get caught on something.

Of course the 10-8 isn't a night sight. But it would work great with a tritium front sight.

You asked for thoughts and these are mine. I hope this helped.

Thank you....ALL comments are appreciated and welcomed..
I do want to put TFO sights on mine, just not sure which brand is considered high quality....I have heard of problems with broken viles, diminished brightness, and damage to sights during cleaning with certain products......

As I stated ... I am asking because I have no knowledge base of these type sites.....

You'll probably get a lot of differing opinions.

While I prefer plain black sights, I have used night sights before. If I were going to go with night sights again, I'd get something with a tritium dot in the front sight and plain black rear sights.

Ameriglo has some good options and consistently get good reviews from what I've seen. For tritium front/black rear combos, I like their Hackathorn model, which is available for the Shield.

Just my opinion, for whatever it's worth.

Everyone has a preference, mine are the Heini straight 8. I like them because the are dead bang simple; dot on top of dot, nothing to else to worry about. They also do not have the annoying white dots for daylight use.

I think the broken vials to which you are alluding are the fiber optic sights. These have a rod that glows and is exposed to capture light. That is not what these sights are.

These have tritium vials enclosed in the metal of the sights. The front sight has a white ring around the vial to make it more visible in daylight. However this also makes the front side rather wide. This can interfere with precision shooting at longer distances. Narrow front sites with a good amount of light on each side are generally considered better for self-defense and even for accuracy.

While having multiple dots in various colors seems to be very accepted today in sighting systems, I prefer simpler sights. I do not find myself needing dots in daylight to guide my sight alignment. A plain black, wide notch rear sight and narrow front sight work fine.

However, glowing tritium vials at night can help with sight alignment. Again, to keep it simple and have less information for my brain to process, I favor a single, non-colored dot at the base of the notch of the rear sight, and a single vial (not outlined) in the narrow front sight. These tritium vials are hardly visible in daylight, so the daytime effect is plain black sights. At night, I simply stack one dot over the other to create a figure eight. It’s simple and effective. There are no divergent colors to process and fewer dots of varying sizes to align.

IMO putting good sights on my primary handgun, especially the one I use for EDC, is akin to putting good tires on my sports car. I’m willing to spend the money (once for the gun) to get the best performance.

#4095L Heinie M&P LEDGE Straight Eight Night Sight Set - Heinie Specialty Products

Iron sights are an antiquated sighting system anyway. While there have been many supposed improvements over the last couple of decades, many experienced shooters still prefer traditional black sights. Some consider dots and colors and huge front sights with outlines helpful; others don’t.

As my eyes are older and I have difficulty aligning three planes of vision to make an accurate shot (rear sight, front sight, target), I have found the advantages of a red dot sight (RDS) mounted properly on the pistol help me shoot better and faster when sights are needed. I only have to focus on the target and the red dot will appear on it when looking through the window. There is actually a greater margin of error allowed with an RDS compared to using iron sights. My iron sights are back ups for my RDS. They are co-witnessed so both systems shoot to the same point of aim at 10 yards.

I often shoot with just my irons with the RDS turned off. I find I have to close my right eye to be precise with the irons.

To your original question. The set you are interested in is of good quality, fairly common configuration, and reasonably priced. You would not make a mistake getting them, but you might want to try other sighting systems first. Or, consider these as a transition or temporary set while you explore other options and perhaps eventually change to another configuration or system.

Remember, your choice of sights will have a much smaller effect on your shooting compared to proper grip and trigger manipulation.

Good luck.

I would take a look at Dawson Precision before I bought any sight for the Shield.

You're going to get a hundred different answers because sights are all about personal preference and the anticipated use of the firearm. For range use I like fiber-optic but I would never put fiber optic on a defensive firearm. Most people like "three dot" sights but I think for quick acquisition I really like my Heinie straight 8 sights. The straight 8 sights don't give you much to brag about at the range in daylight, but in low light (especially with my prescription glasses off) I can line up the two vertical dots faster than any 3 dot systems.
Consider how you may need to use the firearm (range day only, bright daylight, close in defense, dark room defense, broken or missing prescription glasses, night time in the rain, etc) and fit sights for those possible needs.

I keep meaning to look at night sights. Then I get distracted by some other shiny. I think I only sort've look at them because I think I'm supposed to feel bad for still having stock sights.

Just a heads-up, you can break tritium vials as well. Usually happens when the sights are being installed or removed. It's not a safety hazard or anything, just annoying. It's possible to replace broken or expended trit vials at home, as well.

Night sights are not an absolute necessity. When considering nights sights you should first factor in how they will help you and if they will help you.

The days of shooting accurately with three dots sights have long been over for me. I cannot see daylight between the front and rear sights.

So I went with an Ameriglo tritium front sight with photo luminescent paint. The paint gathers and stores light for a short time and it really helps. My rear sight has an extra wide notch to better see the daylight between. It is plain black.

This allows me to focus on the front sight easier. I still can't shoot as precise as I once did. But the front sight allows for a much easier flash sight picture. At 10 yards I can hit a pie plate all days long.
