My pocket EDC is a Smith 442 Pro, however shop/tool box gun/woods roaming......... old 3" CA Bulldog in .44 SPL. Usually loaded with two rounds of Speer Shot Capsules for copperheads/moccasins here in the swamps and then next 3 chambers full of Lee 240 hardcast 240gr SWCTL for the gators and black bears, both loads under Unique. In the shop either Winchester 200gr STHP or Federal 200gr LSWCHP.

I just carried my 44 all day while wearing walking shorts and aloha shirt. My question, why wait to cold weather to carry the 44 specials? I might add, I'm getting pretty long in the tooth and the big revolvers do not create a problem carried in a Simply Rugged holster.

Couple of off brands, usually the CA Bulldog in a Galco holster.

Or Rossi 720 in a Roy's Leather holster.

I have found a couple of gunshops along the front range that carry them.

Liberty Arms in Ft Collins usually has several in stock.
USA Liberty Arms

I've heard the QC is hit and miss. Mid 70's I had a 38 from Charter Arms. It was a pretty good shooter.

I would like to have one in 44 special. I'm only buying older handguns now. So unimpressed with the lack of quality from Colt and S&W. I would be willing to pay more to have quality.

I guess I'll be the dissenter and say I'd much rather carry a 629 Deluxe, which I do carry every day. I have both an L and N frame and the added weight of the N frame doesn't bother me on my belt and helps at the range. Also, I personally like to carry a handloaded light 44 magnum that's still a good bit hotter than any 44 SPL. That said, if I had a M24, I wouldn't feel underarmed carrying hot 44 SPL.

I see your point. I have several S&W 44 magnums. For the most part I'm only shooting Specials no point in carrying the extra weight.

When I go to the mountains I regularly carry my 629 Classic with a 5" barrel
which is my favorite 44 to shoot. When I carry it I also it loaded with 240 grain magnums, or even a 340 grain bullets.

I also have the L frame 69. Unimpressed with the quality. I'm only buying the older Colts and S&As. I would pay more for the quality. Why can't we go back to the 28 and the 27. The 27 was worth the extra money. The 28 well, was like a Ford or Chevy. We have neither now.

I would like to be the CEO at S&W. We would go back to quality. Yes it would be expensive. You could have some low end but we certainly would go back to quality, and no lock.

CA Bulldog with 200gr Speer Gold Dots.
Love the 44 Special round and it's the round that started me into reloading.

I am unable to find Speer Gold Dots in 44Spl or 44Mag. The only 200gr.Gold Dots I find are Blazer(aluminium case) and this is not, from what I have heard,a good quality defensive round? Any comments will be appreciated.Thanks.

Underwood also makes a 200gr Gold Dot load, and I've fired enough of it to believe that it is top notch ammo.

I like the Speer Gold Dot round. I'm not sure why the Blazer wouldn't do just as well though. It's the same bullet loaded to the same velocity (or so CCI claims). I shot a box of it and it all went bang. I didn't shoot any of it through the chrono though.

My understanding of Blazer ammo is that the crimp is not as tight as on brass and there is a possible bullet movement, either front or back, that could cause a cylinder lock-up.True or false, this is what I have always heard.I have fired Blazer at the range(38 Spl.) and never had a problem, but range and self defense are two different things.

The Charter Arms Bulldog is my pocket .44. It’s way better than it needs to be for the price.

Mine rides in a pocket holster often also. At times around the house a couple of shot shells up front for the pit vipers.

Rossi made some model 720 .44 specials in a few years of the early 1990's. Folks seem to like them. I do!

Two versions were available...

One with adjustable sights and double or single action like mine.

The other with fixed sights and double action only. No external hammer.

Both had the same 720 model number and both had 3" barrels.

They came with rubber grips.

I notice the Interarms logo on your pistol-interesting.Do they still produce and/or import them? What are they going for on the new/used market? Interesting revolver. Thanks for the reply.I do know that Sam Cummings is deceased and Interarms is gone.

While I don't use a .44 special for EDC, I did just pick one up, last week.

A Rossi M720, just like Cocked & Locked's.

I have no idea what they're going for, or if I even got a good deal or over payed, I payed $390 out the door.

I found a decent revolver that checked out fully and appeared as if it may never have been fired, seemed a good enough price, I was willing to chance it.

Yes, Interarms. No longer produced or imported. $350-$450 dependent upon condition, box, etc.

Thank God, I had no idea what a Rossi should go for, it looked good and seemed to be an acceptable price, but I was a little worried.

Rossi(Brazil) and Bersa(Argentina) are,IMHO,under rated firearms. They are fair/good quality, less expensive than most and I think(?) better than Taurus.I am unable to add much more,as I have limited knowledge.

I have now carried my M69,4" twice as my CCW.First was OWB and today IWB.Cargo shorts and untucked tee-shirt both times. There is a bulge where the revolver grip is,but unless you are really looking, you will not be noticed carrying.Soon it will be vest weather and the revolver will be completely hidden. It works for me,just passing info along.
