Default WALKING WITH MRS SMITH

A bobcat killed someone's little dog in their back yard the other
night. I like to go walking very early morning, usually with our
little dog. I like to also have Mrs Smith and her 5 little children
along with me.

When they start killing pets-there is a problem to solve.

Between the bobcats, mountain lions ,coyotes and the Javelina in my area, I bring a gun to check the mail at the end of my driveway. I'm not even including the Rattlesnakes in that mix as they kind of keep to themselves unless you step on one.

Phil - you must really be crazy! Think of the children - why would you put them at risk? . . . . . On a serious note, no imminent risk around here but I still take the little missus with me almost all the time.

No bobcat problem here. Coyotes, and not a problem yet. May not be a problem in my lifetime (I'm already 73), but if there is, I don't want my name in the newspaper. The Mrs. Smith I know has six children.

I put a gun on when I get up in the morning and take it off at bedtime. I was involved in an active shooter situation last July at my job after serving 36+ years in LE. You never know when it will happen. I feel that the one time I don't have a gun with me will be the time that I might be able to save someone.

We periodically have coyotes come up to the fence (we're next to a ~60 acre farm field, with easy access to the desert beyond) but our 9-pack of dobie-mastiffs and hounds tends to keep them respectful. We do, of course, keep something with a little more "spice" handy for the less-intelligent ones (or any other species that might think we like uninvited visitors.) So far at least, we've never had one venture into the yard, although the occasional rabbit or cat decides to use the yard for a shortcut. Cats usually make it....
