Default PLEASE...don't be this guy!

A man, rear pocket carrying a pistol, failed to realize that it had come OUT of his pocket while he was sitting on a sofa at an IKEA store.

The gun was found, and fired by some children.

Talk about being irresponsible!?!

IKEA's are also gun free zones, the carrier also ignored their policy.

Years ago I got a call to a Sears Store for a found gun. When I got there I recognized it, along w/the holster, as an FBI issued weapon. No cell phones then so I drove to HQ and called the local FBI office and got ahold of an agent I knew. Turned the gun over to him and avoided all the problems this agent was headed for, I hope.

Sadly, it's people like this who prevent Constitutional Carry from being instated across the US by making a strong case against it.

I'd hate to say it, but the owner of that firearm should have his CC Permit revoked immediately, because clearly he can't be trusted to safely/responsibly handle a firearm and his negligence could have had deadly consequences.

It's almost as if such policies are completely ineffectual against the sorts of people they were designed with in mind.

Nah, couldn't be... They probably just needed more posters designating the store as a gun-free zone.

Have a hard time understanding this. I’m always aware of mine when I carry. I feel it, I know it’s there, I would immediately be aware if it was not.

Whenever I carry, either on duty or recreationally on the range, I am well aware of the gun on my belt.

But we had a Parliamentary Protective Services Officer a few years ago who had to use a stall in a toilet block. He took off his Glock 17 and laid it in top of the water tank, sat down, and when he got up again flushed the toilet then [I]walkedout of the bathroom leaving his Glock behind[I].

Story is he got half way to his destination after leaving the building before he realised he was missing his pistol.

Bad firearms carry.
Poor parenting.

Only the bad firearms carry will get attention.

This has happened many times in the US. Myself I do an inventory before leaving the stall, not just for my firearm. Losing my credit cards would be a huge hassle. I did forget my phone once, NOW I make sure that is also inventoried before leaving the stall.

Don’t get us started on that until I’ve had a chance to make some popcorn

Don't see poor parenting here at all. IKEA stores are kid-friendly, even have play areas. I'm in IKEA often and see kids trying out kids' furniture...futons, little chairs, stuff like that.

None of the reports I've seen mention the age of the child. So we don't know whether the child was kindergarten age or what. "Child" could mean anything.

Not poor parenting. Totally the fault of the doofus who was carrying the gun in his hip pocket.

At the rare times I allow myself to have to sit down on a public toilet, my SOP is to set the pistol down on top of my downed boxers inside my pants. I find that it's hard to forget it that way.

When using a restroom there is no reason to ever remove your handgun from your body. It should remain in the holster attached to your belt or you should lay it inside your pants until you're done. Then you will not be able to forget it in the stall. I can't understand why this simple idea isn't followed by all who carry, police most of all.

Default Responsible? Hardly.

How on God’s green earth can a gun carrier NOT realize he/she lost a gun? Simply impossible...yet morons like this prove otherwise.

FTR, was in Minneapolis the last few days without a gun. Continually was thinking ‘what did I forget?’

Person who lost a gun on a retail store sofa SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO OWN A GUN!

Be safe.

Are we taking for granted that the person that (lost) the firearm was a legal firearm owner?
