Regular Road Trip: Kimber Ultra Carry in .45ACP. Hunting Road Trip: Kimber Ultra Carry for the vehicle, and a S&W 629-6 for the woods.

This is actually a bit of a complicated question:

If I'm flying, just a small relvolver, either my S&W 637 or LCR327.

If I'm driving, I'll add my other daily CCW, which is a 3" S&W M629. I will likely also add an auto in my satchel, for many years a 1911 Gov't, but lately a BHP with two extra high capacity mags and a holster.

I know Colorado has a 15 round limit. Does this mean someone passing through can't bring an over 15 rounder mag with them? If anyone knows.
Saw that you had a question, but didn't see any reply:

The limit is on purchasing new magazines with or without a gun. No restriction on the pre-ban magazines.

Many of us stocked up before the ban. The sheriff says that it is an unenforceable law with regard to what you already own.

Back on target to the OP

we vacation according to the attached map:
Ohio Gun Laws

for dad
Shield 9MM
& Beretta PX4 Storm Compact (only if we are driving)

for the Mrs
Glock 42

No long guns
Ohio doesn't permit the shorty shotgun barrels (ie Shockwave) which I would love to own but our Gov says no.

I pack a second J frame, usually my Model 37, as a just-in-case and for my wife.

M&P 340 in front pocket and one of several others depending on where we are going. If camping, I usually take some sort of heavy revolver plus a 9mm or .45 and often a shotgun. Wife takes her mod. 60 Lady Smith with Crimson Trace loaded with SB 135gr. Gold Dots. Same for my 340.

Thanks. I didn't want to get into trouble for transporting +15 round mags into the State.

I also had to already change hotels. I was going to stay at Woolley's Classic Suites in Aurora, CO, but the city has a "no firearms policy" if posted on private property. So I called the Hotel, they they stated "no firearms allowed on the property". Wasn't sure if it was also posted, and didn't want to risk it. Too bad, this place had excellent reviews.

I'm sure a sign would have stopped that Aurora theater shooter.

A Colt lightweight Government model .45 and my little 638. There's always a 6.8 spc AR behind the truck seat for coyote eradication anyway.

I carry two guns, a S&W Model 642-2 and a 2 inch, RB, S&W Model 12-2. On the road, I generally add a cased 3 inch S&W 13-3. My wife takes her gun on the road, a 4 inchS&W Model 681 (M) with Crimson Trace grip. If traveling through isolated and/or wilderness areas, the ATI-stocked, red-dotted Ranch Rifle and a .50 Cal can of ammo and magazines go in the back of the Jeep Patriot.

Shoot, I also have a .357 Sig barrel. I could go with 3 different calibers. But that might be overkill.
I've been running a conv bbl in a G32 for about 6m in idpa, works 100% with 9mm mags. Why I wouldn't get too worried about carrying one. Just make sure to use 9mm mags.

Thanks for the info. I've used it twice for about 75 rounds. Maybe a few 100 more and I'll feel comfortable with it.

My Comment # 12 .. Those are the same two that I carry normally ..I see no reason to change from what one normally carries at any other time .. The reason - it's the one you would be most familiar with ..

The last time I drove out of state I had two guns with me. My EDC, a 642, and a Beretta 92FS (no mag restrictions where I went). In the hotel it was basically the same set-up as at home: 642 on the nightstand with a flashlight and my cell phone, and the 92 nearby. I brought a couple of mags and a few speedloaders and strips (speedloaders if I could carry IWB, strips if I had to pocket carry).

Unsolicited, cheap security tip: Buy a few different sizes of rubber door stops at the hardware store. When you retire for the night, stick one under the door (from the inside, obviously). It won't keep out determined invaders, but it's going to slow them down and likely involve making a lot a noise in the process, both of which could potentially shift the advantage in your favor.

A 642 in a pocket holster, it is alwsys my grab and go gun, and either a Sig 229 Carry(.40 with a 3.5 barrel) for a general trip or a 6906 in a fanny pack if a beach trip is also on the list of things to do.

649 is the always go with gun with a 1994 .357 Sig 229 for back up. Although the backup has been known to be a 9, 40 or 45.

I carry whatever I would at home. I firmly believe in the "Carry what you shoot best" philosophy. That would be my Shield, either the 9mm or 45acp. Both are dependable as the sun rising in the East. Should the worst ever happen, I don't want to be second guessing myself, whether here or on the road.

Springfield XDm 45acp with three thirteen round mags and one round in the chamber. Always thought that was enough.
