As far as I know, New Mexico is the only state I can think of that only allows carrying one gun concealed at a time. It's been a while since I've read that, so things may have changed.
As eb07 posted, Handgunlaw.us is probably the best resource for travellers, or anyone, really, who carry guns.

New Mexico is the only state that only allows for the carrying of one concealed handgun with a valid permit. You can conceal one and open carry 500 of them if you wish but only one concealed. It states that on the New Mexico page at Handgunlaw.us The problem is there is no site that answers even 1% of all questions concerning the carrying of firearms that people have. Sometimes you have to dig and read a lot and even then there is not an answer for the question!!

Thanks Gary .. Have looked at the Illinois Law and can't find any plural use of a gun all singular .. gun verses guns .. other states are the same .. No clear definition on if you are allowed to or not ..

That is because New Mexico is the only state to put it in writing that yo can only carry one firearm concealed.
Link to below Admin Rule: 10.8.2 NMAC
10.8.2.16 Terms and Conditions of License:
A. Carrying only handguns listed on license. No person shall carry a concealed handgun of a different category or higher caliber than is indicated on the license issued to that person by the department. A licensee shall only carry one (1) concealed handgun at any given time

Correct me if I'm wrong however unless a state law specifically prohibits the carry of more than one concealed handgun at the same time the default would be that it's not prohibited. Laws are affirmative, they tell us what we can or cannot do. The absence of a law does not indicate prohibition, yes?
I would agree references to concealed carry of a "gun" in the singular might be an issue, however states that do not prohibit multiple carry issue a "concealed weapon" permit, should we interpret that use of the singular to mean only one at a time?

Would like to see the NC Statute or NC Administrative Rule that states you can only carry one firearm. dsf is correct. No Law stating it is illegal means it is legal. The singular and not the plural does not make the plural illegal.

OK, this might be a little off topic, but...
What is a different category? Revolver vs Semi-auto?
What is a "higher" caliber? Would that be carrying a .45 when you have a 9mm on the license? Would carrying a 9mm be OK if your license says .45?

In NM, if you want to carry a revolver, you have to qualify with one. If you want to carry a semi auto, you must qualify with one. If you want to carry either, you have to qualify with both. You can carry the caliber you qualify with with or any smaller caliber in that type. You cannot carry a larger caliber than you qualify with. While living there, I qualifed with a .45 caliber revolver and a .45 caliber semi auto. So I could carry that caliber or any smaller caliber in either type. I couldn't have legally (or illegally! LOL!) carried a .50 caliber. And if I qualified with one type, I could not have carried the other.

Thank you. That’s only the second State I have herd allows only one. When I go to Florida for the Winter I used to take I-77. Last year I changed to I-75. I guess I’ll keep using I-75.

Nope . . .
R. HOW MANY HANDGUNS AM I AUTHORIZED TO CARRY CONCEALED AT
ANY ONE TIME WHILE I HAVE A VALID CONCEALED HANDGUN
PERMIT?
ANSWER: North Carolina law does not restrict the number of handguns that may be carried by a concealed handgun permittee. Therefore, the permittee may carry as many handguns as he/she is comfortable carrying.

Edit: Unless this has changed since 2015 . . .

Gary Slider and tops: The best I can remember was from a CHP class I took years ago and it appears the instructor was wrong or I remembered incorrectly.
I'm sorry for spreading bad info
But I found this and while it's not a statute it explains the interpretation of the statute.

That was from 2015.

Since you have advance planning time, I would contact the appropriate state agencies where you will be traveling and find out. If they are CA, NY, NJ and the other usual suspects, fuggetaboutit .
