The “mini-Nine”
Handloaded as necessary.
Sig P238s vs S&Walthers PPKs
25/50/100 yds.
The only 380s we have that have not been reliable, when the trigger is pulled, was a gifted DB380 ZA replaced with a DB380 ZE series and the LCP mag release issue stated above.
The DB380 is for range use ... only if someone needs to learn how to clean guns properly.

The finest .380 pistol made today is the S&W Bodyguard .380 in my opinion!

1 Lock back on the last round.
2 Steel chassis no aluminum like Kel Tec and Ruger.
3 Held together with real steel roll pins, not plastic pegs.
4 Second shot capability.
5 Double action only with a safety if you prefer to use it.
6 6 to 8 pound trigger pull to avert AD in pocked carry.
7 Real steel usable and adjustable sights if you want to play at the range.
8 Stainless steel Slide and Barrel for rust prevention.
9 Steel Mag release to prevent wear.
10 Internal laser option, great for us old boys.
11 Lifetime unconditional warranty from S&W.
12 Easy tear down for cleaning, no pins to be pulled out!
13 Clean crisp pull trough trigger mechanism.
14 Main spring is compression type, no stretched like Kel-Tec and Ruger.
15 Stainless steel easy load magazines.

You guys really need to give this one a good look over and try out. It shoots like a much larger gun and handles superbly for it's size.

Maybe they’ve improved them. Weren’t there a lot of reliability issues with them early on with light strikes and broken firing pins.

Those issues were resolved as "USER ERROR"!

Too much dry firing broke the firing pins and improper trigger operation caused the light strikes. The DOA trigger is set up to duplicate the feeling of a revolver, The J Frame" to be exact, and require a full pull through not stacking the trigger by partial pull.

The issues you refer too are all internet mythology and found to be baseless by S&W engineers. There was no improvement required just some customer education.

Go rent one at your favorite range and you will be in for a very pleasant surprise I am sure. After 50 years of J frame carry, I switch to one for weight and conceal ability and just love this little beauty! Light and thin and it slips right into my back pocket.

Life is good!

I purchased one, on the recommendation of a friend, in Feb. of 2014 and ran hundreds of trouble free rounds until 2016 when the light strike problems started and I lost confidence in it. Mine was the no laster M&P and I liked everything about it up to that point.

Did you ever clean out the firing pin channel? You will need a sight pusher because the rear sight has to be removed for access to the channel. I would say dirt in that channel dirt was your only problem causing light strikes. The remarkable design with the gun is if you get a light strike all you have to do is pull the trigger again. That is why they were designed with double strike capability! Hell fire, you can pull the trigger twenty times if you want to.

Then there is the "FACT" that we rely on .03 to .06 cent cartridges with primers that cost less than a penny to make. It is really very unfair to blame a $350.00 gun for a failure of a primer that is worth less than a penny!

Those small firearms are not intended or designed for range toys or high round count with out a complete tear down and complete internal cleaning periodically. Sorry, I just don't buy the light strike internet myth of the S&W Bodyguard .380! There are hundreds of thousands of them out there that work just fine every time the trigger is pulled.

For being the "finest 380 pistol made" it sure has a lot of demands and requirements on the shooter and ammo .
My low life LCP shoots whatever trash I feed it and it'll feed, fire and eject using any hand position or trigger pull technique.
I guess my idea of "finest" is just different from yours.

S&W confirms that they did not produce any non internal laser models of the BG380 in 2014! They all had the INSIGHT laser in 2014. Just where did you buy one absent the laser and how much did you pay for it????? S&W and I would both like to know?

The only real problems I have with the Ruger LCP, and I have worked on hundreds of them, is that they are a copy of the George Kelgren design P3AT where as the main spring is stretched to fire the weapon not compressed like a normal spring used in all S&W firearms.

The Ruger LCP is no "LOW LIFE" firearm by any stretch of the imagination. Ruger makes damn good guns. My daughter carries one everyday and even used it once.

A bad .10 cent cartridge can stop a $6,000 1911. Seen that many times.

The also use an aluminum frame and slide rails that wear very rapidly like the Kel-Tec. Kel-Tec only rates the fire arm for 3,000 rounds as it is designed to be carried a lot and shot a little.

What happened in your daughters incident?

So, the Ruger LCP has an aluminum frame and slide rails? I wasn't aware of that, but I guess someone who has worked on hundreds of them would know better than I.

S&W informs me that was only an advertisement and market probe to see the viability of a none laser version of its very popular Insight Laser model just before they switched to the Crimson Trace laser! They can not confirm any production in 2014!

I can only tell you what S&W is telling me! I have a relative that has worked there for 27 years and my source of information!

My daughter's incident is just that, my daughter's incident and has no relevance in this discussion!

The LCP does have "alloy" frame and rails. They aren't exactly 100% Aluminum, but they are an aluminum alloy. They are magnetic so there's something there other than pure aluminum.
But for the sake of argument, they are an aluminum alloy (basically aluminum).

I carry my Ruger LCP a good bit. Seems to shoot every time. I can't hit squat with it past about 3yds but I know that's me and Jerry Miculek I'm not. Don't think I need 2 .380s. Just not my favorite round to shoot.

Apologies Retired Cop, I just saw this but cannot understand where you got this info. My no-laser BG was purchased at my LGS on 2/12/14, I still have the receipt.

Did you just necro-bump a thread to reply to an obvious troll who's been banned for a good 4 months?

Necro-bump is an internet forum slang term for bringing back an old thread.

Look under his name and you'll see "Banned" under it.

Don't sweat it. We've all done this from time to time.
