Default Mississippi. . . New Jersey. . . New York. . . NYC. . . Updates

Mississippi - Judges in Mississippi were saying that they had the authority to ban firearms in their Courtroom and the whole Courthouse the Courtroom was in. Regular permit holders are not allowed to carry in the Courthouses but those with a Mississippi Enhanced Permit are allowed by law. At least that is the way the law reads to everyone but the Judges. The Mississippi Supreme Court that everyone was right and the Court Judges were wrong. You can read the ruling at this link. http://www.handgunlaw.us/documents/a...ourtHouses.pdf

New Jersey - Magazine limit reduced from 15 to 10 rounds max. This bill also took effect immediately but there is a 180 day grace period to render inoperable, relinquish or remove the illegal magazines from the state. Only exception is for tube fed 22 cal rifles.

New York and especially New York City - The NY Supreme Court upheld the conviction of a person of carrying a “Switchblade Knife.” Thing is that so called switchblade knife was an assisted opening knife that a guy had clipped in his back pocket. Knife Rights Knife Rights – Rewriting Knife Law in America™ who is fighting for knife rights like the Gun Groups are fighting for gun rights has been stating for a long time not to carry an assisted opening knife in NY City as they have arrested tens of thousands over the years for carrying an assisted opening knife calling it a switchblade. You can read the ruling at http://www.handgunlaw.us/documents/a...a_06072018.pdf

Handgunlaw.us does have a listing of states and cities with links to their knife laws/ordinances. Many people who legally carry a firearm carry a folder type knife. Handgunlaw.us only tries to deal with laws that concern those carrying a folder type knife and no other kinds. It is not all comprehensive but gives people a place to start in researching the laws in states and especially cities where they live or visit. After compiling this list of knife laws I quit carrying a folder type knife and started carrying a multipurpose tool. It is made to be used as a tool. A knife is just a tool but then we see how they treat the tool that fires ammunition. Knife laws in most states are not preempted and they can vary greatly from city to city within a state. http://www.handgunlaw.us/documents/USKnife.pdf

I know that there will be many good folks in NJ who will not be complying with such asinine laws they are about to pass. I do not live in NJ, but my state borders it.

It's hard to conceive that personal property once legally acquired and owned can become illegal to own after an arbitrary passage of a law. I cannot recall, but I remember reading that there is some federal law that prohibits just these types of 'after the fact' laws that make property that was legally acquired at time t1, to now become illegal at time t2, and that's why the original assault weapons ban of 1994 had to grandfather legally owned magazines.

Such laws make criminals out of non-criminals, for doing nothing.

NYC is bad for carrying knives and how they enforce knife laws. There are also people who have been arrested for carrying a “gravity knife” because the officer was able to open the standard folder with a flick of the wrist (centrifugal force). There has been some effort to clarify that portion of the law but no success last I heard.

Because of this if I were to carry a knife in NYC, it would be a manual open folder with a strong detent that requires some force to open and either not use a clip or ensure the clip isn’t visible.

The New York State Legislature has twice passed bills to change the gravity knife definition to correct the centrifugal force opening issue. Gov Andrew Cuomo vetoed those bills.

Yup, All Animals are equal, but some Animals are more equal than others.

We are surly teetering on the loss of not only our 2nd Amendment rights but all of our treasured freedoms.

It's high time we champion them all and not just for us but for all Americans.

Best Regards,

Kobsw

I won't go to NYC or even NY for that matter .. No need and them and border state NJ have some of the most draconian laws in the states of the US ..

I left NJ in 73 and was very happy seeing it in my rear view mirror !! Never went back !!
