There's always some bozo who...
You don't see it so much on this forum, but on other forums, have you noticed that there is always some guy who thinks you're totally stupid for carrying the firearm you carry for self defense, and thinks you're a complete idiot for not carrying what he carries?
I always get a chuckle out of this because, nine times out of ten, this self-proclaimed "authority" has no idea as to what your circumstances are....whether it be because that's the only firearm you currently own or because arthritis makes it difficult to rack the slide of a full-sized 1911 or a dozen other reasons.
I certainly don't mean to vent because we all have preferences for self-defense. I just find it interesting that some folks can't accept the fact that there may be a multitude of reasons why people carry what they carry.
Of course, if you aren't carrying what I'm packin', you might wanna have your head examined.

I feel that way about pocket carry.
I noticed in yesterday’s Indy Star some poor, senile old fella (my age) sat down to rest while his wife was shopping, his Keltec .380 slipped from his pocket, and when he got up and left a couple of (unattended) 6-year old boys got a hold of it and set one off. Mercifully, neither child was harmed, though they did blow a small hole in the furniture.
I always think children in public should be closely supervised - AND loaded guns should be secured in holsters on your belt, but...

Other forums, websites, blogs, you name it. Here there are thoughtful discussions and careful comparisons.
It's not so much the content of the discussions on other venues, it's the tone of the discourse. The kind of outright rudeness common on other forums, and not just about self defense firearms, wouldn't be tolerated here.
Not only the moderators, but the members wouldn't put up with it.

Although I live in a land-locked state
I like to carry a Blunderbuss. You never know when you may need to repel a boarding party of pirates.

You should be free to not carry or carry the firearm of your choice...
as long as you're not carrying an H&K VP9SK.
As long as you're not...
I'll have the advantage.

I have been known to carry some obscure Gats, and have ideas about carry weapons that are definitely out of the mainstream. My life my choice.
An example is my pair of Astra 600s.
They will feed an empty case from the magazine and are more accurate than any polymer 9mm I have fired.

Oh yeah, I'm pretty sure everyone has, opinions being what they are, you're just more likely to receive criticism if you don't carry something popular.
I carry a Smith & Wesson manufactured Walther PPK/S in .380 ACP, so obviously I've heard quite a bit of criticism... It's too heavy, it's an obsolete design, .380 ACP is too weak, the ammo capacity is too low, S&W PPKs are unreliable, etc.
Personally, I don't care what other people think of what I carry because I'm not carrying for their approval, nor am I arrogant enough to presume that I am qualified to be instructing others on the subject. Besides, I don't subscribe to the one-size-fits-all mentality and respect that people are individuals, ergo there are a multitude of variables in play which prevent the majority of people from being able to shoot the same firearm just as well as everyone else around them.
I say carry that which you are most proficient with and feel the most confident with.

There is no exact firearm, but you can come close by carrying something in the following configuration...
a.) Polymer Framed
b.) Striker-Fired
c.) Chambered in 9mm Luger
d.) Bonus points if it is currently in service by the Military or Law Enforcement
That's what's in style right now.

I think a lot of those who tell others what they "should" be carrying are just looking for justification of what they shoot....and of course to show off their brilliance!
They forget....most guys that train to shoot well could defend themselves with just about any firearm out there.
I've shot with a few guys that could hold their own with a flintlock pistol...much less a modern arm.
Carry what you want....it's your hide you're protecting

"Pocket Carry" shouldn't be confused with responsible, properly fitted, properly worn, quality holster, "Pocket Holster Carry".

As a fellow Forum member was fond of saying, "If two of us are identical, one of us is unnecessary." Firearms are like women. I've never dated a blonde. Have some good female friends that are blonde, just doesn't do anything for me in that department. Redheads? Totally different story. I carry a Sig most days, some days it's a 1911, some days a S&W revolver. I've had "experts" tell me I should always carry the same platform so I don't get confused by different safeties and actions and such. If I'm going to get confused about which gun I'm carrying and how to use it, I probably shouldn't be carrying one to begin with. JMHO, YMMV.

I have several DAO semi-autos, six Sigs, a S&W, a Seecamp. I get told all the time how horrible the DAO triggers are and it will cost me my life. So far, all it has cost me is several thousand dollars. I leave people alone.

If memory serves, a fellow many years ago killed a giant with a slingshot and a rock. I wouldn't want to argue with him about his carry choice.

Everyone knows the PK380 with laser is the ultimate carry weapon. You can use the laser to taunt the cat between self defense scenarios.

l read all the time how you can’t hit anything with a 2” J-Frame. I found it strange that last Wendsday at the Range I had some good groups on my target. I shoot between 25 and 50 feet. I shoot at paper plates. 99% of the holes were on the plates. I guess I suck and my mom dress’s me funny also.

Personally, I'm glad I was raised with firearms a long, long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away from the age of social media. I was always a "fanboy" of whatever worked well for the task at hand.
Social media is the only place I know of where a man who has never been in any kind of fight in his life can go to "instruct" others on what it feels like to get hit.
Some of you may enjoy the below article, or identify with it as I have many, many times.
Tactical vs. Practical: Use the Gun You Know
by Bryce M. Towsley - Monday, April 16, 2018
They call us the Banger Brothers. You know, after that God-awful Susan Sarandon movie. When that flick came out, some wiseacre decided we needed a nickname, and nicknames have a way of sticking around.
Bob came from a broken home and grew up with nothing. He was always hanging around our house and when my dad moved him into the spare room, nobody at his place even noticed.
Bob is the smartest guy I know and he is fiercely loyal. He is truly a badass, and if the world ever crashes and burns, there is nobody I trust more to watch my six. But he is hurting, you know. Fragile in a way I can’t really describe and he won’t admit. To the world he looks dialed in—big, tough and intimidating. But, in his head he is still that little kid his parents didn’t want.
That’s the problem. Inside he still feels like the bullied, poor kid from school. When some jerk runs their mouth and starts mocking those who are less fortunate, he takes it personally. In high school, Bob was intimidated and unable to deal with bullies. Today he can kick ***, but he won’t.

What song I have playing in my head when I wake up is a major factor in determining what's up next in my carry rotation. Today was When the Levee Breaks, so that meant carry DW pm-c ss cco .45 Super.

Was invited to leave another forum some years back for being a bit too truculent with fellow members on any number of subjects. These days? Whatever floats your boat, be it EDC choice, caliber, trucks, or women.

I dig what you're saying, but it wasn't the stone, nor the sling, nor even the man himself who felled that giant.

However there are people on here that get upset should you use the word Glock in anyway that they think runs down the perfect handgun even if what you say is just plain fact and not bashing in anyway.

My guess is, that if you checked into the properties of that sling, with it's "loadout" of five stones, you'd find out that it was a J frame, sling shot. No sacrilege intended.

Thanks. I'm gonna start pocket carrying my 226 Legion now. I'll know for certain if it falls out of my pocket.

Mercifully, neither child was harmed, though they did blow a small hole in the furniture.
I always think children in public should be closely supervised - AND loaded guns should be secured in holsters on your belt, but...

I have seen it on this forum too, it’s on every forum. I personally don’t care what others carry because they aren’t carrying for my sake, only they have to live with their decisions.

Like budget. The everyday, average, working class citizen raising a family seeking a handgun for self-defense isn't a "gun-enthusiast" or "collector". Cost effectiveness is their priority and I respect that.

If ya pocket carry anything smaller than a .50 cal. Desert Eagle, you're not only an uniformed "buffoon", but don't qualify as a real "gun guy"

Hi-point C9! And it's currently in service with SCUM, South Carolina urban militia! It's not military or law enforcement but... it's close!

Chest beaters should realize they aren't Tarzan. That's one thing I really appreciate not being allowed here on this forum.
I think it's funny how people brag up something as the greatest till they sell it and then bad mouth it into the ground.
BTW If you carry a semi auto then you should replace it with a revolver before you blow your leg off or have to say bang because your semi auto jammed. LOL Carry what works best for you.

Like, Like, and double like!!!!!!!!!
The obnoxious fanbois drove me to hate the pistol, which is sad as it was a decent design before the Gen 4 fiasco and the danged camel hump on the back.

Not that I'm telling you what you should be carrying or calling you names, but based on your screen name, why aren't you carrying a model 29 44 magnum?

I’ve said this many times over that I carry to protect myself and to get myself out of a jam, not fight a war. In that case this smaller gun will get me to a bigger gun!
I currently carry an LCP .380, shoot it well and feel comfortable with it, I also have a few others I use as carry as well but the LCP is the easiest.
This is why they make chocolate and vanilla, something for everyone!

JMHO, YMMV.

Same good advice goes for hanging around with gurls who have different colored hair! Don’tcha know them gurls are all dangerous! A man’s gotta keep his head outa them dark stinky places and keep his wits about him when he’s handlin’ dangerous things!
