I have very much enjoyed this thread. It appears to me that many of us carry revolvers because we like them and feel comfortable using them. I know I do, I started in 1969 with a Model 19 in a Black basketweave holster and a Model40 in my jacket pocket. Nothing much has changed today other than an up grade in models. Don't get me wrong , I like all types and have been known to use various 1911's and absolutely love Browning Hi-powers however, the revolver is still my "old faithful". All my very best to a great group of Forum members and friends, Joe.

Back on the road in a week and a half for a vacation on Galveston Island. I'll be carrying as above on the trip. I may toss the Ruger Mini-14 Ranch Rifle in the back of the Jeep with an ammo can of extra magazines and .38 Special/.357 Magnum ammo.

Mechanical devices can fail. If you only have the one and it fails, how many do you have?

Just sayin'.

Murphy is a live. Mechanical things break. I think there is wisdom in having 2. And questioning it seems a little foolish to me. The second thing is a fact. And the the first while not specifically fact, could be proven from AAR's. Stuff breaks when you really need it to not. Life is good at throwing monkey wrenches into things.

Having said that, I only have 1 gun. But I've thought about carrying 2. I like the idea of having one of them little derringers for an oh **** moment. Better than nothing.

Was, not is. Been out of the job a long time. Carried a 1911. The only time I carried a back-up was in-country. M-16 was primary, 1911 was BUG.

When I went through the academy we trained to carry a Bug in our weak hand pocket.
Reason 1 if your strong hand was disabled you could draw with your weak
Hand and still defend yourself, 2 and if your primary was disabled you had a second
Gun to still defend yourself.

My local guy would probly make it for you for $100ish (maybe less, I haven't asked) if you are interested.
I did talk to my local guy and he quoted $120 for a natural colored version, so I think I'm getting one for my J frames.

I carry two revolvers everyday, so I approve!
Just to keep it real; 442 empty weighs 15oz x 2, G26 empty, 22oz. 10rds vs 11rds, g26 lighter still, Just saying.

My story. I'm only 35, but went through the police academy 15 years ago, well past the revolver time. The instructors hammered into our heads the importance of always carrying off duty, and always carrying a backup gun on duty. (After ten years in, I quit and am no longer an officer)

As soon as I graduated the academy, I went and bought a Smith 442 J-frame. At qualification, I was called Cletus, grandpa, people laughed and pointed, made fun of me, called me Barney Fife, etc, all in good humor, making fun of me for having a "grandpa" gun. I became proficient with that little 5 shot revolver, and practiced a lot with it, as I considered myself a professional, and as such, I should be well trained and proficient with my equipment.

At qualifications time, I always shot perfect scores. Always. And that included the Smith 442. I out shot everyone on the line with a 5 shot revolver, while they were shooting full size Sig P226 9MM duty guns. They no longer made fun of my "grandpa" gun, and actually, over the course of my career, I probably convinced ten or more officers to buy a backup gun, with the majority of them buying Smith 642/442 j-frames. I'd let them pocket my gun and see how comfortable it was and you would just see the light bulb come on in their head, as it finally made sense.

Carry method will be mostly pocket carry.
Carried autos most of my career because I was told I had to!
The 38 works and it worked for me in the 80's.
Always carried one as a back up and off duty.
Autos are ok they jam in retirment no need for ammo capacity.
What holster do you use?
