Nice, nothing wrong with that. I've carried three J-Frames many times. J, "IMO", is the best overall, ez to carry, most versatile, good power to size/weight ratio, ccw piece ever.

Two is one, one is none has been attributed to the Navy Seals.

doesn't two weigh you down somewhat .. what is the weight of a 442 ?? how do you carry?? holster .. pocket ?? Are you going to carry +P's ??
I would think they would be a pretty hot load for that pistol ??

I carry a PX-4 Sub Compact and an extra mag and wouldn't want to carry 2 of the Beretta's ..

Just seems like a lot of unnecessary weight to lug around everyday.. which could lead up to back and sciatic nerve pain in your legs at a later date ..

I understand that it's a NY reload .. but do you live in NY ..

Just my thoughts ..

Retirement is great. Lots of choices of what to do and how to do it.

When I retired I was able to ditch the suit and tie and wear clothing that would conceal a full size pistol AIWB with a hi-cap reload @ 10 o’clock. Fixed blade push dagger at 11. Very comforting and sufficiently comfortable.

When I need to because of formal clothing, I revert to a 9-round Shield with a 10-round reload in Thunderwear.

Two 442s weighs less than one PX-4. Airweight J frames weigh almost nothing.

I carry two revolvers everyday, so I approve!

Many of us old timers have carried two for many years.....

The very reason several of us lived to be 'Old Timers'.

They only weigh 17oz each
Im not into +p mostly a warm full wadcutter and 158 swc for reloads.
Carry method will be mostly pocket carry.
Carried autos most of my career because I was told I had to!
The 38 works and it worked for me in the 80's.
Always carried one as a back up and off duty.
Autos are ok they jam in retirment no need for ammo capacity.

Nice pair. I've got a 642 & 360 for lightweight options. I'm more of an auto guy. My retirement purchase was a Glock 43.

My retirement EDC is the 340PD b/c I carried a revolver for the first 20 years of my 30 year career, and I had to use it three times so that’s where my comfort level is.

I just did a revolver class for two of our guests at the resort and had them both shoot my M&P 340 as well as my 686 CS-1 along with several semi's because they have revolvers at home and had no training with them. I love J's. Like Dave and OLD cop said. Many of old timers started with wheel guns and used them very effectively for a lot of years before switching to bottom feeders.

Actually no the PX-4 Sub Compact I have weighs in at 26 oz 2 of the 442s come in at 29.4 oz so would be 3 oz heavier then my Beretta .. if you count the weight of an extra holster what would you come up with ?? holster another 6 to 8 oz or more all according to the type ..

so that set up is easily much heavier then mine ..

When I was on the fugitive unit in the 80's I went into the worst housing projects
With a 6 shooter model 66, 18 roundss total and a snub in my week hand pocket.
That set up worked for me.

In retirement the snubs will work fine to protect myself , if you feel safer with the auto carry on. Ive survived confrontations with a wheel so thats my individual choice that ill stick with, its retirement and no one will tell me what I have to carry any more.
So a wheel is what I choose.

Please don't mis understand my questioning .. I'm just trying to understand why ..

If you think you need more then 5-6 shots ,, wouldn't it be safer for you to carry an auto that would supply you with 10 or more rounds the same or slightly more then the two revolvers .. My PX-4 is 13+1

The problem I see is I can shoot all 10 to 13 rounds in the time you shoot five and do a reload.. 5 more rounds on target might save ones life ..

I dont think I would need more than 5 shots but if I did then there is an other 5.
And I have seen to many malfunctions with autos.

If I was going to feel rhe need of an auto I have plenty to choose from.

I will be doing some private sector work and if I feel Im doing somthing I need firepower ill strap on a Kahr or a glock.

But after 33 years ill give my hip a rest and not dress around my gun.

You don’t have one to hand off to someone if TSHTF. You don’t have a backup if yours brakes. If my right hand becomes useless I have a gun in my left pocket to access. Two is one one is none.?.

I would never hand a weapon off to a stranger !!!

Has there ever been a TSHTF ??

I have shot close to 14000 rounds thru my autos with out a failure .. I do change springs when needed and all other maintenance ,, And use good ammo ..

If my right hand become disabled I practice shooting off hand and do that at about 75 to 85 percent of my right hand ability.. about the same as most people who practice off hand shooting

The old "Two is one and one is none " saying was years ago when revolvers were in vogue and autos were having many troubles .. speed loaders did they even exist them ?? At that time 30 years or so ago I could well see all your arguments but in todays world where perps are carrying Glocks with 30 round mags .. who run in pack of 4 or more the revolver in my opinion as a self defense weapon is low on the list of what I would choose to carry ..

well you have your views I have mine.
I also as A head firearms instructor for a large department have thousands of rounds through my auto and have trained many officers, so yes have seen many malfunctions. Can you carry your auto in a pocket and fire through that pocket. I'm carrying to protect me not the world. Also if I'm going to go some where where its really really bad I have many other fire arms to choose from.

What does (TSHTF) mean?

In retirement like I said you carry what you like and I'll carry what I like/
Auto work for you then carry it, revolver works for me that is what I'll carry.

Good luck stay safe!!!

if one runs into 4 guys carrying 30 round glocks, a puny little 13 round pistol is not going to do the job. this will give you a possibility of surviving. might be a little hard to conceal in Phoenix in summertime.

Default Retirement carry

These are my two retirement carries. In a "real" fight, I'm not sure which I'd be better with

Great little revolvers they are! A good choice as far as I’m concerned. Happy retirement to you! Were these a self-inflicted retirement gift?

Retiring next month. My wife and I are traveling for her medical treatment. Since we are on the road, this is what I wore under my Hawaiian shirt today.

Congratulations on your retirement! Just crossed that threshold myself and will continue to carry my 442!

I have a Glock 43 and a Shield (x2) that I like but when it comes to what I shoot the best and feel most comfortable with I find myself going to the 442.

You didn't say how you plan to carry them, but you might consider this, the Bell Charter Oaks' "New York Reload"

My local guy would probly make it for you for $100ish (maybe less, I haven't asked) if you are interested.

Needs the PDW stock. Fits in a briefcase or messenger bag. New retirement carry

Pretty slick, but I don't carry anything small of the back. If you go down, you risk serious harm to your lumbar/pelvic area. In my humble opinion, of course.

Smith shooter and carrier from Air Force days in65 to 68. Model 15s
1970 Graduate college and Model 19 4" duty gun until the 80s then switch to LW Commander 45 and a Colt Cobra on the ankle.
Retirement several J frames but no longer just carry Kahrs, I'm lazy to a point. Need to practice speedloading with Js and make sure your performance with them matches your expectations. Kahr CW9 weights 17 ozs 8 shots of 9mm and an 8 shot reload in 3 seconds. Better sights than a J frame and better grip. I don't reload 9mm. No +P ammo in my Kahrs. I carry a CM 9 as a backup and it shots into 4" off hand at 45 ft, using Hornady critical defense ammo.

I shoot fairly well with either hand (being born left handed in a right hand family made that an option) practice and training contributed to what skill I have. I have carried left / right / shoulder / cross draw / small revolvers / medium revolvers / small autos / med. autos / large autos, whatever was available or appropriate at the time. In recent years, my carry guns have consisted of a J frame (either a 60 or 649) or, in the last year, a SCCY in 9mm. I am not a fan of 9 but like 11 shots in a small gun. I shoot often enough that I stay proficient and accurate out to 25 yrds. The key, IMHO, is to practice and practice from your regular carry position. Oh, and did I mention, PRACTICE!

No disrespect to fellow forum members who choose the NY reload or a BUG of any type. Seems to me, if the worse should ever happen, the first thing the authorities will ask is, "Why two guns, were you looking for trouble?" or something along those lines. I'm no expert on the subject, but I figure getting involved in a SD shooting with one gun can be deep dreck enough. MHO, you understand.

Given his history and experience, it's pretty easy for the OP to justify carrying two revolvers, if his choice in firearms was challenged in a shooting investigation. Someone who carries a high capacity semi-auto might be asked why they thought they needed 15 or 17 rounds along with extra magazines. Were they looking for a fight?

I don't carry two, but I do carry a 442 regularly. Nice EDC choice . . .

Carrying 2 guns is not a foreign concept to law enforcement officers. I doubt anyone would question it unless you were a gang member type.
