Question Best grips for a 3" 629-4?

Hi, Looking for suggestions on the best carry grips for a 629-4. I have looked at Ahrends and Nill grips. Looking for a good carry grip with finger grooves. Would love a dark wood. Any suggestions?

I have a 3" 629-6 PC Carry Comp. It sure looks good with the prity wood grips but it hurts to shoot magnums wearing those. I do enjoy 240g lead swc loads that are kept under 1000 fps with the woos stocks. But if I'm going to use magnums then goodyears are in order!

I vote for the Ahrends "Retro combat".I have them on my 629-2,3" and they work great.I also have them on about a dozen other guns mostly N frames.

Have John Culina make you a set of Round Butt Finger Groove Combats.

He is one of the best grip makers on the planet.

His quality is top notch.

I'm looking for larger grips for a 686+ I just got .. my fingers
are long and the trigger finger doesn't hit the trigger at the right place ..

Will grips for an "N" frame revolver fit an "L" frame and will they be bigger ??

I have a few alternative suggestions to those already offered. I have small hands and short fingers and the finger groove grips don't fit me.

I have found Magna Grips with a grip adapter to be a great carry grip. They are not the best for shooting, but tolerable for a couple of rounds.

Also works for square butt N frame revolvers.

Ahrends Retro Banana grips are also a good choice, but don't have the finger groves.

The best grips for shooting are the "rubber" Uncle Mikes or Pachmayr grips which come with or without finger groves. They are nothing to look at but are more confortable to shoot.

I tried a bunch of grips and settled on smaller grips. I can shoot light magnums all day long with these, and they carry great.

I also vote for John Culina FG Combats. Mine are Walnut with Tung oil.
Sorry, don't have them on yet just came the other day.
Picture really don't do the Combats justice.

No matter how pretty or how well made.... a $5,000 suit that isn't made to fit YOU is just another off-the-rack suit. If you want finger-grooved stocks that fit, have them made by someone who will fit you.

OR .... buy some Ahrends grips unfinished; Kim has done all the heavy lifting (inletting and shaping) for you. Use a half-round rasp and some sandpaper wrapped around a dowel to re-shape/re-position the grooves until they are comfortable in YOUR hand. Hit 'em with some rattle-can poly and voila....

custom, one-of-a-kind, grips for a 3" 29 that fit you perfectly for <$100.

I agree with those who recommend soft rubber grips for shooting, especially with magnum handguns. My experience has included S&W .44 magnums with 6.5", 4", and 3" barrels, and none of them can be described as comfortable with magnum ammo. Probably at least ten years since I've fired .44 Magnum at all; I stick with stout .44 Specials, and Pachmayrs are better for that use as well.
