I spend several hours working outside this morning and got a reminder of something I learned back when, but had forgotten. This may not be as important depending upon the weather where you are.

Once you've decided on the best firearm/holster combination for concealed carry for you, you need to make at least one additional purchase. That purchase is a twin to the holster of your choice. It wouldn't be a bad idea to purchase a twin to your carry piece & belt also if funding permits.

Why a spare holster? When I came in from this morning's chores, everything I was wearing was saturated with sweat. This included boots and belt, the holster only felt mildly damp. This isn't good for either the leather or anything that might ride inside. If your holster isn't kydex, spares to allow the primary to dry is a really good idea. Also keeps your firearm out of a rust farm.

There is another reason too. While a quality holster will last a long time with proper care, they do wear out. Holster makers don't keep all their products in production forever. It's irritating to find your favorite holster hasn't been made in years or is now only available from a custom maker with a several year backlog and astronomical prices.

Yeah, 20+ years of issued synthetic moisture proof holsters kinda caused me to disremember the concept.

I learned that a few years ago when got caught out in a t-storm and got wet to then bone .. actually poured water out of my boots .. was fishing and the Jeep was about 1/4 mile away ..

leather holster dripping wet too .. never did fit the pistol well any more ..

Good plan. Never though of it and I am a guy who takes 2 pair of boots to a job so I can trade them out every couple days. Boots take more of a beating and are more exposed to sweat, water and gunk, but the concept applies.

In those cases it might pay to do the following: unload the handgun and hose it down with WD-40. Wrap in saran-wrap or put it in a baggie and stuff it in the holster until the holster is dryish. That's the way we used to form holsters to the gun before fitted holsters became common.

Kinda depends upon age, condition & price of the holster and if you need the gun operable & available.

Getting a nice leather holster soaked with sweat really bothers me. Here in S.C. it gets very hot and humid. Sometimes an Uncle Mike's holster is the only solution.

I have gotten my Lobo pancake soaked thru, with gun, a couple of times. Got home and set it on my boot drier... saddle soap then smell of wet dog conditioner and good as new...…. well, for a 10 year old holster anyway.
My fall back holster is an old Galco that refuses to give it up.

How about a Mike Pocket Holster or IWB?

These are made of synthetic material and should be less impervious to sweat.
