Your one and only
Having fun and getting good response with the 6 guns, and walk out guns.
So let's take it down to one. Whatever can happen has, your house and possessions burnt to the ground, people going nuts and you have heard rumors of zombies
You head to the closest gun store and it's a mad house. They tell you only one gun per person and only 50 rounds of ammo.
What would you ask for? Only one gun and 50 rounds.

On the assumption that the store has EVERYTHING in stock.....
Smith & Wesson M686+ 3", 20 rounds of .357 Magnum and 30 rounds of 38 Special +P.
That was my literal knee jerk reaction. Thinking about leads me to other places but I'll stick to that one, anyway.

Oh yeah, forgot to post my choice.
Hard to do though.
870p or G17 , either I'd be fine with.

My 66-4 snubbie.....the most versatile and best all-around handgun in my very modest collection.
My Browning A-5, 3”, 12ga. would be my second choice but it’s just too big to haul around.

Given your parameters, I'd probably go with a Glock 19 and 50 rounds of whatever good quality JHP they have available, with 147gr HST being my first choice.

One thing about the 870, probably make a fine club when you do run out of ammo

Your one and only
I'd take that Marlin 1894 carbine in .357 Magnum and a box of Remington 158 grain SJHP .357 Magnum ammo. It would work well with the pinned and recessed, 4 inch, S&W Model 65-1 with Pachmayr Grippers that has become my constant companion.

Glock 17/19. I already own both(multiples) and would fine with either one. Ammo choice would Corbon DPX.

I don't know, I think before the answer to the question is always a G19 it was the answer to the question is always a Model 10.
I'd go with a 3" model 10 and some plus p ammo.

Is it the Mossberg 590 the one with the bayonet lugs? I'd probably go one of these.

Fun and games. If you are going to the LGS in such dire circumstances, you didn't pass the Boy Scout Code. I'll take this 65-3 from the safe along with a couple thousand rounds of hot .38 Special. I figure 6 rounds are worth a trade for a square meal for a family of 4. Although some realms of thought have you never revealing your firepower.

I'll go with my standard "Only One Gun" answer; Savage 24 357/20 gauge. For ammo in the limits of this discussion, one box of 5 slugs, one box of 25 #4 shot and a box of 20 158 grain JHP. The ammo is very easy to scrounge. I could "find" a revolver to go with it. I would scope it with a 1 power 30mm or 45mm Red Dot. This will take anything that can fly or walk east of the Mississippi!
And I think more about hiding and eating than hunting Zombies (Unless I was on the island of Hispaniola-Haiti!)
If I'm wrong about the Zombies; I'll be Zombie scat in a few days!

7 1/2" AR 15 pistol w/Brace, 20 and 30 rnd mags. Then on the lookout for more ammo.
Fits under a jacket, can clear out a house and drop 'em at 100 yards.

Note to Original Poster..... for most of us; unless we died in the fire we already have one gun and a folding knife on us.................... generally a couple spare mags/speedloaders and some ammo (maybe even a long gun) in the car/truck.........
Grab the Maxipedition bag in the truck ( fixed blade knife.,water filter, fire stuff etc.) and ...................
Execute "Plan B".......

Since I've got the shield 9mm that stays on my hip (even in the house), and the spare mag and bodyguard 380 (w/spare mag) that stays in my car....I would ask for a Shockwave 12ga. and ammo.

Chased bad guys for a year with M16 and it never let me down so AR gets my vote. Hunting type bullets are more effective on hogs than fmj so that's what I would use.

LOL...... over the past 13 years I've been here (actually it's been longer) we've seen 'hundreds" of "If you can only have......." threads. The most common IIRC is "If you can only have one gun"
You've got 3 three threads going right now : one gun, six guns and Your " Walk out" guns.....
I've participated in all three... the other two threads got specific answers.....my answer to this one is "don't let yourself get caught in the situation you outlined". Cus most LGS owners (at least the one's I know) will be locking their doors....and greeting customers with a loaded AR... some will be full auto.

OP "house and possessions burned" ....... "you" said my truck burned!
Did the whole "Burb of the Burgh" or the whole "Burgh" burn?.......If so the OP's LGS is ashes...........
also.............................
Did't say it's the only source......just the 1st/most convenient .... to implement Plan B
Like "John Wick" my remote storage locker/garage may have a cement floor!!!!!
Speaking of John Wick..... what is the LGS taking as payment for........ one gun and 50rds??????????????????????? Gold???? Silver??????
LOL would have been a lot simpler if the OP had just asked ...... "What one gun with 50rounds of ammo would you choose for SHTF/TEOTWAWKI"
Just "funnin" with the new guy!!!!

Personally, I have quite an arsenal, and probably a couple thousand rounds of ammo. Both vehicles have small bug out bag we with g19 that stay in them. I've got two bug out bags for the house and keep a 6920 and 6 mags ready.
But, two months ago I was offered a job in Miami that I couldn't refuse $$$$. Had to put everything in storage and have been living in a hotel for two months while finding a new place. I have a g19 bag in my jeep, but where I go I cant get on site with a firearm, so no gun in company vehicle. I picked up a 28-2 and a 1894 while here, but they are in hotel.
Point is, you never know what is going to happen in life and no matter how big a collection, you can get separated from it.
What if you go to the grocery store, get car jacked and they steal everything leaving you but *** naked?

Unless I'm dead ...... I will survive.
I hate that ..... "one is none'' BS.......but ya.... have a plan B...... C and D............and an S to back up B.
In College, many decades ago, my friends gave me a poster I've lived by ever since..... "Ya though I walk though the Valley of the Shadow of Death I fear no evil...... for I am the meanest Son of a _______ in the Valley!" If I have to be, I will be...... but I hope and pray I never will..................

Well... butt naked..... could be an issue as I'd be swarmed by 40-60 year old women......it's a curse........ so I'll be moving only at night .....

No worries on my side...probably don't even need the 12 gauge...IF they get past the pitbull, the bad guys have to face the wife. I figure I'm pretty safe.

Sounds like the whole burgh..why else would everyone be going nuts..?
Have you seen the neighborhoods in CA lately.. not much left..be happy for your life let alone find your stash..
LGS was spared..he has a bunker outside of town that had a bulldozed perimeter in case of wildfire..
